UK Based Nigerian Pastor And His 2 Children Drown In Christmas Eve Tragedy..

British pastor Gabriel Diya, 52, his daughter Comfort Diya, nine, and his son Praise-Emmanuel Diya, 16, died at the Club La Costa World complex in Spain on Christmas Eve.

Mr Diya, who was a Christian pastor in south-east London, and his daughter are both understood to be British while his son was travelling on a US passport.

His wife Olubunmi Diya, 49, and younger daughter Favour Diya, 14, were also on the holiday but were unharmed.

Mr Diya and his 16-year-old son Praise Emmanuel jumped in the water in a failed bid to save her which ended with them also drowning, it is believed.
A witness told how mother Olubunmi, a systems analyst who owns her own software development firm, 'stayed calm' and prayed as he performed CPR with resort staff on the three tourists.

It is feared that the family could have fallen victim to a suction problem which made it impossible for the nine-year-old girl's father and brother to rescue her after she got into difficulties at the resort near Fuengirola.

But the exact circumstances of their deaths remains a mystery

Mr Diya, who also ran his own property business, was a pastor at Open Heavens London in Charlton, south-east London, which is part of a network called the Redeemed Christian Church of God.

It is part of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, which posted in tribute on Facebook: 'With heavy hearts, we extend our condolences to the family, parish, friends and associates of Area Pastor Gabriel Diya who sadly passed away, along with two of his children ... in a tragic incident while on a family holiday in Spain.

Autopsies performed at Malaga's Institute of Forensic Medicine have confirmed that the British father and his two children died by drowning.

Pathologists found no signs of any external injuries, or evidence they had been poisoned, during the examinations.

Medical experts have also found nothing pointing to nine-year-old Comfort's sister Favour suffering any chlorine poisoning.

The 14-year-old was examined after police were told she had been swimming with her younger sister shortly before the Christmas Eve drama unfolded.

Police said yesterday ahead of the autopsies that they were keeping an open mind and 'all options' were being examined.

Comfort's parents are understood to have found the nine-year-old in difficulties under the water after rushing to the pool when the older girl returned to their holiday apartment alone and they quizzed her on her sister's whereabouts.

Reports say a resort worker who dived into the water to recover the three bodies has said he had also experienced difficulties reaching the surface and exiting the pool.

I hope a thorough investigation would be carried out about that pool.

The pool probably have some issues that they're not letting people know.

Even if they don't know how to swim, there's no way three people will drown in a pool within seconds.

Please, I would like to advise Nigerians travelling to countries where they speak different language to learn the basic words of that language especially how to call for help. Yes, it is very important to know the word help or help me when you're travelling to a non English speaking country.

If one of them had screamed socorro or ayuda, maybe things would have turned out differently and one or more lives would have been saved.

The Norwegian tourist said something that caught my attention, about the hotel workers not telling them that there was a problem with the pool and that people shouldn't use it. That means she heard something from one of the workers.

Let's hope there will be a thorough investigation because the family are both British and American. The son that died is an American citizen because he was travelling with American passport while the other family members were travelling with British passports.

May their soul rest in peace and may God Almighty comfort the wife and daughter.

    1. I saw the pool and it looks small for someone who can swim to drown in.... either that water is demonic or this is a spiritual attack to the pastor's family. So sad

    2. Aproko Queen,i hope this your premise that it is either demonic or an attack is a joke? Have you been following the story at all?

    1. This reminds me of my childhood friend who was working with Schlumberger, beautiful got married, had stunning kids because hubby was so good looking and rich and refined and from a first class home because his dad was a respected professor at the University of calabar and Ohh my she had it all, she is older than me but her younger sister and I were great friends and so we all were friends.. Boom, her first child died in the sosoliso plane crash, Boom her hubby had an accident and died in Abuja, Boom the last 2 kids died in the Dana air crash.. I think I ran literally mental on her behalf in the UK.. today she just stares and mopes I heard, and I wonder why do these things happen to people? Why does GOD let it happen? it affected me so much till today.the Diribes have never recovered from the trauma.. I decided then I don't want tho marry and have kids.. I was so shocked..

  25. They've concluded the autopsy and concluded that there was nothing toxic about the water, neither there's nothing wrong with the sucking pipe,it was a case of the family not knowing how to swim.Such a very painful death,May God console the family 💔💔💔

    1. What a stupid deduction. If they could not swim would they have allowed the girls go swimming alone before the older returned to their flat alone?
And why would the man who went for their bodies say he struggled to get the surface? Imagine doing that with a drowning flailing body.
Leave senseless analysis and empathise with the family that’s all.

  27. I was checking out homes with swimming pools but after this news, I'm now scared of pools. I did some research and found that having a gun at home is safer than a pool cos a child is 100times more likely to die via pool than via a gun. Water is a powerful and dangerous force.. I swim a bit but I stay awway from 6' and above. I just wish the son didn't jump in as well.. so sad.
