  6. Wow! Beautiful!
She is an inspiration to widow.
After the death of her husband she refused to remarry, she took care of her three children and here they are today.
Her daughter is her spitting image. The man beside her daughter must be her son in-law

    1. I have always wondered why Nigerians view widows who remarry as immoral or less sacrificing but hurriedly arrange for a new wife for a widower. I'm referring to your "she refused to remarry" part of your comment

A man once told me he'll only marry from his tribe because if he dies, his wife will choose to remain a widow and not remarry. How that is a criteria for a good wife i will never understand.

There's nothing wrong if a widow chooses to remarry. It doesn't mean she'll take less care of her children. I know one who remarried and she and new husband took good care of her children and others that came after the marriage. All are doing well. You won't even know unless you were told.

    3. Anonymous 10:33,

Well said. I think it's just the African culture. Men can do as they like but not women.

Men are asked to remarry because society believes he needs a woman to help him train the kids and to keep his bed warm. Women are encouraged to ‘not’ remarry because there is no guarantee that the men they’ll marry will accept her kids from a previous marriage.
So a woman is ‘expected’ to accept a man’s kids from an earlier marriage but men are not held to that same standard. Nobody considers the woman’s need for sex or companionship
As terrible as this sounds, sometimes it may be the reasonable course of action. Men could be very nasty, esp where many other kids are involved. When there is a scarcity of resources can they consider all kids equally? Esp if he earns more? Or will they say each should take care of his/her own kids? Let’s not even start with the child molesters. But the bottom line is women should be free to take their decisions without being judged.
Do you know that some men are so backward in thinking that they find it difficult willing their property to their wives because ‘she will remarry and another man will benefit from my sweat’? Rubbish!

    5. na women wey go allow some stupid African cultures slow them down. i tell people marriage i snot all about children but companionship. a young widow also needs a man to help her emotionally and even financially if he can. nothing heroic about a young widow refusing to marry. if you dont cos you haven't met the right man yes but not to remarry cos of wetin people go talk then you be mumu. dont let the chauvinistic african culture deny you happiness. they always want women to be at the mercy of the male folk make dem dey excersice that dia stupid ego for ourhead. lol rant over. i have 2 friends who are widows and i know some of their experiences

  13. @Mystic you did not mention that some families turn their backs on the children of the dead man if the woman remarries. If the new husband misbehaves in future or the children need their real father's Relatives for one thing or the other, they will not bulge. They will tell them to go to their new father. This and many others like child molestation are the reasons I have decided to focus on my kids for now.

    1. You are right, absolutely right. It’s sad that some of these terrible customs that should be abolished are continued, and when you check you will see that most of the relatives are ‘Christians’ or ‘Moslems’ oo.

Don’t worry Mrs Gee, God will surely hold your hand through it all, amen.
