Brilliant School Of Thought On Why Lagos State Government Banned Okada Riderss....

This will pull the shoes off your feet..please sit down as you read this...Especially if you live in Lagos............

''Some sanity returns.
Today the Taxify prices return to near normal.
And even as we groaned yesterday.
Some cashed out.
Like the Taxify driver who drove me this morning.

The smile on his face shone.

As he spoke.

"... there was permanent surge all through yesterday. One ride after the other. I didn't even rest, because I knew it won't be like that every day, so as a hustler, it was work until quench. The money I made eh, normally it will take me four or five days to make that same amount of money."

I asked him.

"So you didn't feel sad seeing all the crowds that were trekking or the huge amount of money people were spending to get from place to place?"

"Why should I feel sad? Do they feel sad for me when I get only four or five rides a day after driving for over 12 hours? Am I the app? Did I cause the surge? There is no sadness o. It is business. Demand and supply. Too many orders, too few drivers, prices go up. See today the prices have come down, is anyone coming to say - sorry o, I know you are not making plenty money - no one sends you at all, at all. This is Lagos, the cause of one man's suffering, is the source of another man's enjoyment."

"What of all the okada and keke marwa drivers, how will they earn a living?"

"The same way they were earning a living before they started riding okada and Keke marwa. Bros, don't pity those people o. Most of them are animals. Don't you see how they drive? Like madmen. Traffic light they won't obey. They will be stopping anyhow and anywhere to pick passengers and causing traffic. See me that normally will spend 1 hour thirty minutes or so to drop my wife at work in the morning, yesterday and today, forty five minutes it took me. Ask me, what changed? Answer is, no okada and Keke Marwa blocking the road and causing traffic. Didn't Fashola ban them? Did they die? It is that bastard Ambo that they swore for from his village that caused it na. If he let Fashola's policy stay, by now we will have even advanced to other forms of transportation. Nice Hiace buses that can take up to 25 people at a time, will be plying those roads, but no o, he was looking for cheap popularity and bad belle didn't help him see road. Please it is a good thing what Pointus'olu has done o."

"But there should be something put in place to fill the vacuum. You can't just kick people out of a job like that. All the monies spent buying the motorcyles and Kekes, gone down the drain. All the other businesses that service that industry, will disappear. Think about the O'Pay and Gokada, what will happen to the massive infrastructure and connecting businesses? The staff behind the scenes? The cost of putting up the app? It is madness. Couldn't the government just regulate the industry? Insist on helmets and safety measures. Enforce traffic laws. Give them unique numbers, so that they are trackable and punitive measures can be taken against the offending driver and not the whole industry. Even buses can be bought and sold to the drivers on a lease to own agreement. Like what you guys do with Uber and Taxify."

He laughed.

"You want to do lease to own with aboki? Aboki that does not know anything but to put head for road and drive like somebody that wants to commit suicide. Bros, haba, you have to think it well. Most of those Keke and Okada riders are from Niger, Mali, Chad, all those far places. They are not Nigerians."

Then he whispered.

"In fact, I can tell you a big secret. Confidential."

He paused.

Then took on a dignified pose.

When he spoke.

His voice was authoritative.

"You see all those Okada and Keke Marwa riders, who is giving them money to buy their Okada and Keke Marwa? Do they look like people who can ever find money to buy it themselves? They arrive in Lagos in trailers. The next day they have brand new Okada and Keke Marwa. Before you know anything, they spend one week learning how to ride and like that, they are on the road. Where do they sleep? How do they live? No one knows. There is something happening that we are not seeing."

He went silent again.

"The government does not want to say it in public to cause panic, but the truth is that, based on intelligence report, the Government knows that Boko Haram is sending its members into Lagos."

"Come on, that is not provable. Did you see the intelligence report with your own eyes?"

"Bros, don't look at me like an ordinary person because I am driving Taxify o. As you look at me like this, I know people in high places in government. I hear things. If it is not that I don't want to be staying on my farms and staring at my workers, I would not be here on the road doing Taxify. Take it from me, it is confirmed, the ban on Okada and Keke Marwa is not just because they are a nuisance, it is basically a security issue."

He kept quiet to let it sink in.

Then he continued.

With a hint of urgency.

"Those people are like 85% aboki. There are just some Yoruba, Igbo and South South, amongst them. These aboki know everywhere. Every corner of Lagos. The mai guardi all over Lagos, also know the movement of people. The aboki and mai guardi are all working hand in hand. Monitoring all of us as they wait for their signal. Bros, the day that signal will come, Lagos will burn. There will be nowhere to hide from these abokis. They will chase you and kill you. You see what I am saying? You see why the government had to act? All those stories about Pontius'olu going to Igbobi and seeing Okada accident victims and feeling sad, and then deciding to ban Okada and Keke Marwa is just story. Those who know, know."

A moment passed.

I thought about what he had said.

Then I asked him.

"So if they are a security threat, why not ban them across the entire state? Why leave them in some places and ban them in others?"

"It is strategy. Government knows that they cannot get rid of them all at once. They know that there are some areas that need transportation, since they don't have enough buses and the population is high. So banning them there, will cause riots and Boko Haram can even hijack riots to cause more disaster. So what Government has done is push them out to the suburbs, box them in places that can be monitored, controlled and if anything wants to happen, they can immediately surround those areas with army and police and deal with all of them. It is big time security operation you are seeing o. In fact this ban is just the first leg. Soon you will start to see other moves."

"So why is it only in Lagos?"

"Lagos is the main prize na. If Boko Haram can scatter Lagos, they have scattered Nigeria. They have destroyed our economy. Don't you know what will happen to Nigeria, if Lagos does not function for just one week? If businesses are destroyed? People are killed? Fear is everywhere? Ahhhh, May God not let us see bad thing."

"Hmmmm, but there are okadas and Keke in other states too, are they also..."

"There are states that Boko Haram is interested in, there are states that they do not care about, and there are states that they did not born them well to enter. Like South South states. The militants are ready for them. So they are focused on Lagos. Slowly they have been pushing their fighters here, planting them, waiting for the time to strike. Those people are very smart, but Pontious'olu will show them that he is smarter than them."

Then he laughed.

And said.

"You think Bourdillon is sleeping? It has more hands than octopus, centipede, millipede joined together. The more you will be looking, the less you will be seeing."

"I hear what you are saying, but it is all conspiracy theories. Fake news. People just cook up these things to divide the country, put fear into us, turn us against each other, just to achieve their selfish purposes."

He stopped laughing.

"Okay o, think what you like. But it is with your two eyes you will see something. There is fire on the mountain. Everywhere is burning. Blood is flowing. North, South, West, East. It is not by chance. Too many enemies are circling about. They have sworn that if they cannot take the country as their own, they will instead destroy it. Even in destroying it, they will be making money. Guns, bullets, bombs, armoured cars are all money they use to buy them. If people know what is happening, I swear they will not sleep. In fact they will have run away to Ghana."

Then he sighed.

Before he continued.

"As I said, thank God Bourdillon is not sleeping. Even the East and the South South are watching his hand. So that they will know what to copy."

"What to copy?"

"Yes."

"Like what?"

"Hmmmm, first you heard Amotekun, then you heard Okada and Keke ban, and you think anyone can do this, if Bourdillon did not give the signal?"

He paused.

"Ask yourself, what happened to the one that lifted the ban on Okada and Keke? Did they not barber his head and show him the road to his village? Let Pointus'olu lift the ban on Okada and Keke or let him say Lagos is not part of Amotekun, it is then you will know that the father who rolls in sand as he plays with his child, should not be mistaken for a child himself."

He looked at me.

And said.

With a tone of finality.

"These days are the kind of days when you sleep with one eye open, you stay on alert as you move about, you trust no one. The clouds are dark, rain will soon start falling, all these things you are seeing now, are just the rumbling of thunder. If you know what is good for you, you will make sure your gutter is not clogged and your roof has no holes in it..."

    1. Not fables at all
Weaponized drones were intercepted by the military at lagos airport and upon questioning they said it was for kaduna states governor.
Pray tell, what does the governor need weaponized drones for? Today the man was released with the drones after calls from the top were made.
Stella this is not a lie, you can confirm it.
These are the drones we need to destroy boko haram, yet they need it for their plans
God will definitely put them to shame.
Yall should need a plan B.

    2. Sadly it is not fable. Wanted to take an okada from Ikeja last month. The aboki called an outrageous price (later learnt it was to discourage me because he didnt want to carry a woman). I joking said 'haba my friend that is too much now' He said to me with pure hatred in his voice 'i no be your friend. No ever call me your friend!'. I was taken aback by such hatred. That was when I looked into his eyes. Empty. Dead. I quickly took to my heels.

    1. Honestly I'm in support of the ban. I said this yesterday and a friend said it's because I have a car. It's far from owning a car. I had a bad experience with an aboki okada man in 2016. Story for another day.

Now someone can drive peacefully without any Keke or okada bashing your car.

    2. Thank you swag.
The accident I had on an express with a bike man, it was God that saved me as my car swerved. Both the bike man and the people on the bike fell off the bike, Lord knows I drove off and didn’t stop. What the hell are they doing making a u-turn on the express in the first place? My car side Mirror was removed and my tire burst. I was livid when I got home.
I don’t only blame the bike men, what about the passengers they carry? Just because they are in a hurry to get to where they are going to, they don’t mind the bike men hitting anything on their way.
Another incident I had, the passenger was even laughing after the keke driver scratched me, saying The usual “na woman, she no sabi drive”. Forgetting that most women drivers actually go to driving schools, learn the rules of the road unlike most men that learn from their uncles or brothers or dads.
The last accident I saw just this January was by an OPay rider. If you are familiar with okota ijesha link bridge you’d know the bridge gets sloppy when you are getting to the foot of it, but no, this opay driver was still going fast till he slide off path with the passenger who was busy pressing phone.
See en many reasons I totally support this ban Abeg. It’s not only traffic that gives headache in Lagos while driving.

  11. "i think i'm in total support of your analysis on on this Okada ban based on my discussion with my gateman Malam who gave me more insight into the activites of these Okada riders..
    1. He told me that most of the riders in Lekki are Shite members and most have stickers of El Zaky Zaky on their Okadas. He also told me once he sees the sticker, he would not take the bike again and look for another one.. He went further that once the Riders see anyone who can identify them, they would avoid that street or route.
    2. He also told me there are other 2 - 3 groups also in Lagos / Lekki axis who could only be identified with the way they pray completely different form the normal prayers and these ones he opined are more dangerous than the Shite group but if you dont know , you will never know because they hide their identities a lot.
3 . He also said they are coming to Lagos enmass and gathering momentum to enable them do the kind of things they practice in Kaduna, Kano etc... He also told me their new concentration bases are Lagos and Kwara for now. Was amazed with the information i got from him to the extent that its their Sponsors that provide all the Okadas for them so that their base in Lagos will be strong enough to unleash mayhem..... I can now understand why Landlords in Lekki are shouting on the level of Insecurity. Amotekun is a good development but if we fail to curtail the influx of these people posing as Okada riders then we are in for a timebomb that could explode an moment from now and thats why am in total support of this Ban. Most important step on security is Intelligence with less noise in the social media. Just imagine the amount of information i gathered from common malam and henceforth i will be engaging him more. For this action from Lagos State, i do hope more states in SW, will look inwards more because "Ehinkule lota wa, Ile ni aseni ngbe". The influx of these people must the tackled with full force. May Gods protection never depart from our Households in Jesus name, amen"

  16. I said last year that there is 🔥 on the mountain. Una tink say na play.

The reason I'm holding God the way I do, is partly because I've seen what education and being/forming woke cannot solve. Some of the things I say are by the Spirit of God and the rest are because of things I've had to see in the natural first-hand.

I also said last year how not everyone presenting as a patient in Nigerian hospitals, is ill. Symptoms and illnesses plus medical reports and even death certificates can be faked to near perfection with ease - for different reasons. That's just one sector. Imagine what's happening in others.

Nigerians are CARELESS! Gosh!!! I can so relate to what the Taxify driver said about where he has entered not being evident in how he looks. Nigerians are so proud (of nothing) that they are too blind to see who or what is in front of them. Many of you are so thirsty for recognition and possessed by your sense of 'class' that if I dress like a cleaner, access confidential information and pass in front of at least 100 people - NOBODY would notice till it's too late "cos shebi na just cleaner". Your expectations that people need to look or sound a certain way, will destroy many.

To make matters worse, some of you just put your whole lives online. As if you have anything to prove. Any nonsense fad, you join and hashtag without realising the implication or the reason behind it. From that 10-yr challenge to the more recent four versions of you on four social networking sites thing. I don't know if there's some kind of evil spirit invoked to make people who should know better, behave otherwise on social media. But I find it odd that folk will put everything that defines and matters to them, online with their own hands. Pictures, family members, locations, wardrobe, how you're feeling, what you're eating and where, whom you're doing what with, your future plans (then you wonder why they fail most of the time). Some of you are uploading in real time and you wonder where your problems are coming from. It's not just the spiritual angle of your telling evil spirits your good news, but you're also making it easier for yourself to be found. You're doing this mess in a country where someone with enough of a motive can find you in less than a week and all they need is your phone number! But nah, you gotta go a step further and make things easier for anyone trying to harm you.

But what do I know? I'm harsh and not polite. Lol!

    1. You are so right on this!! People are so careless that they put way too much info online. I've seen a lady who wants to show that she jogs every morning (nothing wrong there) posting her jogging route and time on Instagram. From Instagram and what she posts, I could even see that she moved house. We really need to be careful the amount of our personal info we put online.

  26. Stella, you shouldn't be using your platform to spread xenophobic messages.

In my estate, we have about 20 regular okada drivers, they're from the North, Kano & Jigawa states mostly. How do we know them? The regular ones, they're actually night gateman in the block of flats in the neighborhood and drive okada to supplement their income. Most of them have held the same job for about 15years up, and started driving okada in recent years when their regular 20k - 30k salary lost value in the market. These men do more good than harm in the neighborhood, they run additional errands, they report househelp who steak their employers property and pass it on to their gang during the day when nobody is home. They inform the police of cult activity nearby, they keep track of neighborhood kids so that when someone's mother is looking for them, they will tell the location within a few minutes before panic sets in.

My estate is off Lekki Expressway, and this week, I've seen these men look deflated because a source of livelihood has been taken from them. And while I agree that okadas are a nuisance on the road, I think there could be a different approach to securing our roads. Why not mandate that every okada be registered at their LGA or LCDA office? That every okada driver go through a licensing procedure then if they pass, be issued a license and their bikes chipped for tracking? Why not reinforce the helmet or both rider and passenger mandate? Then to ensure compliance, have an arm o LASTMA be created to monitor bikes and Kekes alone, that will detain any unlicensed rider and impound their unregistered bikes.

The ban on bikes and keke is really an attack on poor people. They're the ones who primarily use these low cost modes of transportation.

I told my husband same thing when this ban was announced. I grew up in Gowon estate egbeda which used to be a peaceful neighbourhood but now the opposite is the case. Abokis have taken over everywhere. They do drugs, mess up everywhere and threaten you if you complain. They even have people in the police who protect them if you complain. Sanwo olu should ban okada completely in Lagos. Let there be a bit of sanity and security.

    2. The only sensible comments I've seen here. People are only concerned about the bad ones amongst them. What about the many good ones that use it to feed their families? What about those ones that do not use it for criminal activities and constitute nuisance.

What will they do now? How will they survive? Will those happy about this pay their kids school fees or feed them while they figure out what next to start doing???

Is our transport system even good enough to support the ban Of okadas?

So if people start robbing and committing criminal activities with cars, will they also ban cars???

Meanwhile, since you are of good courage, organize something for your northern workers in your estate. Or betterstill, now would be a good time to know if they are really good men.
