Former Beauty Queen Pastor Shirley Aghotse's First Novel "Maro" Is Out.

Maro, a young orphan had it rough growing up with her foster grannie in Ibadan, one of the major cities in Nigeria, but she sought solace in education; her supposed one way ticket to Utopia.

She finally got into the University of Lagos after series of obstacles which included a teenage pregnancy that almost destroyed her. The story explores the relationship she had with her family, friends, neighbours, teachers, and her first love Korede the playboy.

It is a romance story seen through the eyes of an African woman, and it brings to fore the vulnerable thin lines between love and betrayal, fate and faith, resilience and redemption, then triumph! It takes its audience on a jolly ride across three continents, whilst pushing boundaries, shattering stereotypes and uniting mankind with a subtle hint of the perks of being charitable, whilst exploring the impact of beliefs system derived from the three major religions in Nigeria namely Christianity, Muslim and African Traditional Religion on an average Nigerian.

In addition, it exposes the moral decadence in the society with the hope that the story becomes a catalyst for change, in respect to how parents/guardians perceive the capabilities of their wards in these changing times, therefore encouraging a new method of approach consistent with the changes. It is also expected that young adults would learn a thing or two from the characters, and the consequences of wrong choices no matter how harmless/glamorised it seems at the time.
