The debris of that plane is somewhere in the thick Congo Basin rainforest which is the second largest rainforest after the Amazon in the southern Americas. Difficult to penetrate just like the Amazon. After all it's only one American inside, it's just a regular Boeing 727 and not a fighter jet that if taken by the Russians might leak some technology. So the Americans cared less.
