Mrs Dee's Corner - Suffer Head Mentality.

The average Nigerian is so used to suffering and even brag about it so much that it will make you wonder if there is an award presented to the one who has suffered the most.

It is one thing to be unable to afford certain necessities, but an entirely different ball game to be able to afford it and still choose to suffer.

I still remember the corps member who I served with at the same place of primary assignment, she never spent a dime from the federal government N19800 for the duration of our service year. She just with the N8500, from our private employer.

Her undies were discoloured from too much use but she refused to change them. Her reason is that nobody was could see it. This was a slay queen who wore designer clothes but had worn and threadbare undies. If her bathing soap finished before the end of the month, she would prefer to borrow from me than withdrew money to buy hers...

I used to have the suffer head mindset too and would deny myself basic needs all in a bid to save money that would still be spent on something else that was not really necessary , but reading lots of books changed my mentality and helped me realize that sometimes I ought to give myself a treat and there's nothing wrong with enjoying myself with what i can afford....

A lot of people walk around with the suffer head mentality, denying themselves things they can afford, and forgetting that if they drop dead today, someone else will help them enjoy what they couldn't...

If you are reading this and you have the spirit of suffer head mentality,I pray that your eyes become open and you change that mindset.

  1. A lady does not withdraw a dime from her allowee but wears "designers clothes,".

    2. Her designer clothes were probably given to her by friends/relations, not that she bought them

I need to work on this, I rarely buy for myself. If I buy its like jazzz I would just call a friend to come check and pick it up. Or my sister.
I alert them even from the market
The last set of undies I brought, I gave it out that same day, only kept 3 for myself.

  4. The only time I don’t spend on myself is when I’m broke. But whenever I have money....boy oh boy....I spend on me.
Life is transient....people should be guided on that.

  8. Thank God for delivering me oo. My own Na trekking. I can trek for Africa even when the Keke fare is 30 naira, I'll still trek. When I got a car, I would trek to mice fuel. My elder sister visited one day and shouted the living day light off my mind. My mindset had to change by force ๐Ÿ˜€.

    1. It's actually healthy and a good form of exercise but Nigerian sun and big man-ism won't let people trek in Lagos.

    2. @anon14:59.pls,that one is sufffer head x10!!!...how can you use exercise Everytime to justify your trekking, even when it's unnecessary??...besides,did she tell you dat she's on the fat side???... Sometimes, the reasons we give ourselves when it comes to doing something, can actually show dat that thing is a suffer head mentality.

    1. I swear down, when I was still working with UBA, some of my colleagues will be bragging about how they suffered growing up. How they grew up in Ajegunle, in face me I slap you houses, one even said beating his chest and I quote “ aje kpako ni mi”. I just rolled my eyes and in my mind I was like I can’t relate biko.

  12. I have to go anonymous on this one. I've started spending on myself o. Last week, I went to the market for the first time in 3 years and bought very nice expensive shoes. It was all about buying for my wife and family. I also spent so much maintaining my car but suddenly realized that I've not been spending on myself. After all, the Bible says love your neighbour as you love yourself. I had to relearn and change my suffer head mindset
