United States Reortedly Stops Visa For Nigerians Earning Below N612,000 Monthly

The United States of America has once again tightened Visa restriction on Nigerians declaring that the Green Card system which makes it possible for citizens to live and work in America has been scrapped, according to reports.

Going by information gathered from a US agency on immigration, any Nigerian earning below N612, 000 or $1,700 per month would be denied Visa as they are henceforth considered ‘economic immigrants.’

The information also revealed that Nigerians seeking to travel to the US must provide compelling proofs of what can bring them back to the country while adjustment of status and overstaying would no longer be acceptable.

It warned that henceforth, failure to maintain status could lead to future ban on entry to America and that violation of visa status makes one ineligible to change to marriage, school, work, health, asylum among others.

“If you are visiting the US and find that you want to extend your stay beyond the date on your I-94, you cannot file anything again, you cannot fill Form 1-539, application to extend or change Non immigration status with USCIS”, the agency added.

    1. It’s a bloody lie, I got my visa last month and I earn just a bit over 350k.

    2. Even people working half time at minimum wage make that money in a month. Americans don't suffer and aren't underpaid like Nigerians. The people being paid $1700 would likely earn 4x -5x for the same job in Yankee.

We need to hold ourselves to better account in this Nigeria, so we stop chopping insult outside

    4. @friend you can not compare the American economy and that of Nigeria. That amount does not hold water and the reason is this . Depending on what state you live, let’s take Abuja for example where a 2bedroom is 700 to 1million a year ($3000) in American you get that same house for $700 a mount so if you multiply $700 by 12 months you will get $8400. This goes out for all commodities in America . Life is more expensive in America than Nigeria . You can’t survive with a 300k salary in. America ,but in Nigeria your a big boy with 200k salary mind you house in California is more expensive compare to our own expensive (Abuja)

    6. Which house is $700 please? I live in the state of Washington and from Seattle to Tacoma, there ain’t no two bedroom houses for $700. Not even a one bedroom. Maybe in the southern states.
When l came in 1999, a one bedroom started at $565.

    7. I believe it's talking about the amount you must make while living in the US to be able to adjust your status. It is not about their citizens so I wonder why you would say that.

  2. Nigerians should stay in their country.
Having smeared the country's image with poop, the other countries are getting wiser.
Just think about how many Nigerian crimes abroad and convictions we read just this past week; the pastor and wife jailed for rape etc.

  3. Please let Joe Biden win this elections this is getting so annoying if true. Some of us dont earn this much but just want to visit not live. If it is becoming a problem put a tracking device on anyone that comes into your country to let you know when they overstay and stop punishing everyone except you only want politicians visiting America.

    2. I doubt you’ve ever been there. Even though I live in the U.K, Yankee is and has always been a trip to me when I visit. There are places like Wall Street, Rodeo Drive, the whole Las Vegas strip, West Palm Beach and even places in ordinary Chicago and Atlanta that will leave your mouth gaping. A country with 4 time zones, a country like a combination of countries. A country with Ivy League universities, a country where you don’t even have to visit other countries to go on holiday, a country with some citizens so ignorant that they think life starts and stops in America. A country that believes the dollar is the only currency in the world. Try changing pounds in Yankee and even in banks they look at it like strange paper. But have no doubt that it’s a great country. It’s not called the worlds’s only superpower for nothing. Their Presidents are usually called the most powerful men in the world. I can go on, but let me stop. It’s truly a great country. Extremely special.

  18. The lure of America is the American dream. You won’t understand it until you have studied American history, politics and way of life. Anyone can be anything great in America and that’s why it’s called God’s own country. It’s a place where you can make it easily irrespective of your race, colour, religion and orientation.

Trump is racist. He’s not even interested in going to Africa or even visiting a place like South Africa. What he’s doing now is back to the days of the military regime in Nigeria when people linked to military officials and almost everyone else were banned/visas were very difficult to get. He will win again so brace up for another four years.

There are other countries to go to. But even the U.K. with a Trump-like Prime Minister is similar in thought to Trump. Also racist and they’ve tightened the rules too.

Sad and most of the blame should go to our useless politicians and rulers.

    ReplyDelete

    1. That doesnt make him racist. If the tables were turned, I believe Nigerians will do the same. While in Nig, I worked in healthcare. Even as a Nigerian, it was very difficult for me to get a job in another state or tribe outside of mine. In some states, it is totally impossible. "Why should we give the job meant for our indigenes to an outsider?" So I feel Nigeria will do worse if they were the developed country everyone wanted a piece of. UsA has been kind to Nigerians though. We have migrated successfully for over 6 decades. It's just human that someday the gates will close. Now the gates are closing, if only we made use of all the knowledge we got and built our own country.

I blame our leaders in all these. If you know how blessed we are, how much oil and natural resources we had, the potential we had that made them call us Giant of Africa back then.. to think that we are in slums right now, is the saddest story ever told.

      Delete
    2. Trump from his actions is racist. From his words is racist. From his Dad who had a no hiring blacks, he passed it on to his son. Trump is racist. Have you noticed that when he attacks blacks and other minorities he calls them stupid? When he attacks his fellow whites he never uses stupid. He makes out like minority groups are dumb. Typical entitled Caucasian.

    3. @NiB whoever you are, with the brain you have and what you just wrote up there, I’m glad you were born. When we read these things, we tend to write comments based on the emotions we are feeling at the moment, and it’s natural. It takes a lot to write a sensible or objective statement like that. It’s amazing how Nigerians talk about racism and they forget the tribalism in their backyards, and you are right about not giving jobs to non-indigenes. Tribalism and regionalism is one of the reasons we have president like the one we have now.

  20. So a country asks you to do what there law requires, before you visit, and you brand them racist? Really? There is such a thing as controlled immigration and every country on Earth has a right to control who gets into their country, there is nothing racist about that....Globalism is really on a free fall, and if leaders especially African leaders are wise, they would start building their countries and protecting their borders. Controlled immigration isn't racist, if the tables were turned Nigeria will inevitably do same.

  28. To those who think it’s easy to make money in America, think again.I’m a professional with my own practice working 14 hour days with only one 10 day vacation in 5 years! Americans are the hardest working people in the world!

Was it not Nigerians rejoicing when trump got elected? Now they see the right wing minority agenda affecting Nigerians they are complaining. Meanwhile they are not used to fighting for social justice. When it comes to immigration protests in the US, Mexicans and other Hispanics were at the forefront. They forgot that it was just the beginning. Now he is coming after the most populous black nation to stop Adjustment of status. He will come after Indians and Chinese and Philippinos too! It’s inevitable. If you are a citizen here you probably know the website trackitt.com. The chinese, Indians, Mexicans and Philippines have the longest wait for legal immigration. As at 10 years ago, Nigeria’s priority date was current and most professionals and PHDs from US universities got their citizenship without stressing. It’s about Stephen Miller and right wingers trying to reverse the projection that Caucasians whose women do not like giving birth will become minorities in this country in a couple of decades so all gloves are off and Nigerian leaders now need to be held accountable. I have only had one Japanese staff at work in over 20 years working in a Fortune 500 company, because they have a good country. Chinese and Indians still have poor people with many Chinese fleeing the one child policy to produce anchor babies in California mainly.
He has effectively rendered anchor babies unable to adjust their parents status when they come of age and white Americans secretly love it.

The other day I read that a minister said they could not complete some rail construction because the Chinese cannot come due to COVID virus. The same day I saw a comment under a chronicle on this blog about a chemical engineer who said innoson by extrapolation as she didn’t say the name only hires laborers , pays N18k per month!!! Hires Chinese who smoke away. What is wrong with Nigeria can be fixed by what is right in Nigeria. Get those IJGB or whatever plus locally trained engineers and download manuals and finish the freaking railroad! The world has been building railroads for 300 years big deal! They won’t get egunje, so they waste the destinies of the youth. Gather all electrical engineers locally trained with the IJGB who largely were denied green card forget their cooked up reasons, to solve electricity problem. Don’t voodoo them and pay them what you pay the Chinese. Children of Nigerian descent here are doing such projects here. Use them there! That chemical engineer that said the car assembler only pays N18k will easily clear $80k here as a 23 year old fresh grad from a good engineering program. Notice I said program because some think Harvard’is all in all but it’s not a top 10 engineering school! The IJGB trying to form a special class need to come off their horse and gather young brains together to build the infrastructure needed to make Nigeria great. I never wanted to leave here when I was a teenager as Nigeria was good to me in the FGGCs. It got worse and some were graced by God to come when we did. This is the wrong timing for permanent immigration, don’t do it!

    ReplyDelete
  29. America is not paradise. All things work for Good to those who love God. Everything wrong with Nigeria can be fixed by everything right with some Nigerians. I read about the people calling themselves I just got back even though some just went to college for 5 years abroad. Trust Nigerians to be stuck up over nothing. All the Engineers in IJGB plus locally trained ones can build nuclear power stations and railroads for the country if the politicians will let them. The reason most are IJGB is that they were denied H1B work visa or green card though they make it sound it’s voluntary but it’s mostly self deportation and most “cash down” (Nigerians nickname) in Atlanta will eventually lose the home should they fail to pay HOA dues or property taxes on time. Let there be no segregation between IJGB and those trained in Nigeria to help confront politicians to give them these infrastructure projects as they now have no other country than Nigeria!
