    3. I am so disappointed and so hurt about this development.

Also, I discovered that the heart condition started after the birth of the fourth child.

Maternal mortality rates are higher with each pregnancy. I wish people can understand this and limit the number of births. Women should exercise their rights over their bodies and practise family planning. Pls.

This woman has died for nothing. So till now, Enugu state has no provision for managing covid 19 patients?

Well, my husband and I are still leaving this country. This year!!!

    4. You are so correct, my Sister died at her fourth pregnancy, the husband told her that three is enough she insisted looking for a baby girl. The died and left the baby, a boy

    5. But why have four children in this present day Nigeria?
You had two girls and one boy, you probably wanted another boy, now see what happened. She developed heart problem after delivery. Oga carry your load abeg.

    6. Absolutely!!! It is not in the number of children, but in the QUALITY OF LIFE provided for each. Tjis is so disheartening and in this age/century we are in. RIP dear departed and may the Almighty grant your famiky the fortitude to bear the loss.

    1. You are very mad.
What about the young doctor that lost his life because he attended to a covid patient without PPE?.
It's the CMD I hold accountable for not equipping his staff.period.
Its inhumane and wickedness to ask another human to out his life at risk for you.

    2. Who is mad here now

    3. Anon 19:14, I join Anon 20:53 to say you are indeed mad for such uncouth statements.
Are you aware there is shortage of PPE's across the nation? These fabric and poor quality face masks sold in pharmacies/stores, while good for community use, are not adequate for hospital health care workers?!
Many hospitals do not release these PPEs readily to the staff on call until they have a potential Covid patient and get clearance from de CMD before de PPEs are released. This must explain the time lag before they dressed in the PPE to attend to the woman, unfortunately it was late. Do you expect any doctor or nurse to embrace any such suspicious case without considerations to their own lives nor family they can infect? Please let's be reasonable in our analysis of issues. Doctors and nurses are a terribly at risk population because not only are they at risk of community spread like everyone else, they are also at additional risk as people who care for all sick people. Let's be guided and not curse out innocent people who are also held back by the failure of the systems they work in.

    1. It's a sad situation but you people should stop calling them wicked. Are the health workers not human beings?.

This is not the best time to be sick as any respiratory case is treated as COVID suspect. They should now front themselves when Govt/hospital did not provide them with PPE. Will you do that or advise your relative to. They are trying and we should put ourselves in their shoes. The blame lies with the Govt/hospital.

May God protect us all and give the family the fortitude to bear the loss.

  7. Chai, this is sad sad sad😭😭😭😭. I am just weak to make sense of the behaviors of those health professionals. What about their oath of conduct? How about the ethics of their profession?.

Ah , the western world is good when it comes to health care. If na Yankee, na prison all of them on duty at that time will spend the rest of their lives plus their licenses revoked for good. Moreso the hospital will pay millions for negligence and omission leading to death of that woman, though it will not bring her back to life.

Now the hospital will craft a false medical report and autopsy citing , the woman dying of covid19. I pity the husband, if you are a nobody in Naija ehn, na only God go save you.

    1. Oath of conduct, oath of conduct. We also swore an oath to protect ourselves. Does the government provide PPE for health workers to attend to patients?? Are health workers not human beings too? What happens when something happens to us one by one?
It's a sad story. But this woman had a suspected case of COVID. It is only human to take cover. The hazard allowance is just 5k. The whole health system is a sorry mess. Blame the government first for not creating a better environment for the health workers to practice.

      Delete
    2. All this Yankee Yankee y'all talk about. How mụch do you pay your government as tax? Does your government equip hospitals? Do you know how difficult it is for a doctor working in a Nigerian hospital to get gloves on a normal day talk less of during this pandemic? do they have any protective equipment to work with? you expect them to work without protection and carry nonsense back to their families?

In the US, citizens are making masks and donating to Frontline workers, has any of you here ever done that? Have you cooked food and taken to your doctors working day and night on the front lines? But you want them to lay down their lives for you so you can live.
Nigerians are so selfish and sometimes don't think right!

  11. Damn. I shed a tear reading this.
This is the same fear I’m living with now. My mom is asthmatic and whenever she have her attacks we take her to the hospital, although it happens once in a blue moon...but I’m just wondering what if she have her attack now and she needs to be taken to the hospital? Would she be attended to?! Or immediately labeled a victim of the virus without an immediate test?
All medical personnel in that hospital should be queried and their license seized till they can provide a valid reason why that woman wasn’t attended to for hours.

    1. Please your mum should take necessary precautions at this peculiar period and should refrain from anything that could trigger it.Any respiratory symptoms until proven other is Termed Covid 19 until proven otherwise.Health practitioners are exposed daily to this virus.PPE is not readily available in the hospitals has professed by the government.

      Delete
    2. I am sorry about your mom's health. I am not asthmatic, don't have a close relative who is, neither am i a health worker, but one thing i know is that for most if not all asthma patients, there is always something that triggers it.
Kindly, ensure that all precautions is taken to avoid what will trigger it, please. This is honestly not the best of time to be at the hospital. All the best

      Delete
    3. And to add to what anon 22:31 said, ensure your mum has her inhaler close by. So that in case of any emergency, she can quickly use it. I'm also asthmatic and my inhaler is what I use whenever I get the attack.

I was just telling someone how faithful God is , that I've not had any crisis this period is by the mercy of God cos I cannot even imagine going to the hospital .

Please make sure your mom has her inhaler
Also there r some first aid meds you can just have at home just incase and if possible speak to her Dr more often just so you can have tips on how to assist her .
      Fear not ❤❤

    5. I think you should call your mom's doctor and relay ur fears. So he can arrange for her to go to a specific hospital incase she has an episode but keep an open mind that she ll be treated as a case of covid 19 until proven otherwise. Having a specific hospital who knows her health history ll only save u time while they figure her covid status.
Like other commenters, her inhaler should be close to her (worn on d neck best).
      Avoid her triggers.

    6. My sea, get a medical report (preferably from a government hospital). Stating she is a know asthmatic and the medications she is on. Let her keep AMD take with her just in case..., hopefully sh wouldn't need it IJN. I am a doctor in a teaching hospital with 3 small children below 3 years, and I WILL NOT attend to any suspected case of covid 19 without PPE! I see politicians on TV wearing N95 mask everyday, meanwhile non for doctors and nurses in front line! God help us.

Thank God I feel better today. Things have changed, the way they behave in hospitals even before coro was terrible, now I can only imagine....... I had to advise myself because I no get power to dey shout for hospital, abi? I no dey related to Buhari or governor of my state. Toh! Same people will be shouting stop self medication, but look at what they are doing...... There is no human feeling anymore.
May that woman and mother rest in peace. It is not fair but what will happen? Smh........

  15. As a Doctor, If such a case with these obvious symptoms presents to me and theres no adequate PPEs to protect myself as is the case here. I am not going any where close. You cant send someone to war without adequate weapons and expect them to win.

All of you at home shouting and calling for our heads should continue doing so from the comfort of your homes. It wont change anything.
I know how much of my personal money I have spent on face masks, protective goggles and gloves at this time. Ordinary hand glove is a holy grail in most govt hospitals now. With Hazard allowance of N5,000 odiegwu.
I feel bad for their loss. She is just one of the many victims of an inept Govt.

    3. Please you all should be safe , you equally have families and loved ones,
I lost a friend two weeks ago due to same problem , he was left unattended because the doctors and nurses had no protective gear people are clamouring for the doctors to be sued i had to make them understand that in as much as its a painful loss we cannot endanger the lives of the medical personnels it is rather unfortunate that the government is so inconsiderate its really painful,
May God keep us and our loved ones safe .

    4. My dear, I don buy facemask tire. My house officer just informed me that his parents wants him to return home, pending when the pandemic is over. That means I will soon be without a house officer, and I will find myself with a added hop discription. I will now add treating suspected covid without PPE on top of that.

  18. Heard also of a diabetic man who was most likely in a hypoglycemic coma, but wasn't attended to for fear of COVID, and died.

So sorry for your loss. the doctors do not have protective equipment given to them and Nigeria has no provision for healthcare workers, no post exposure prophylaxis, no masks. Everyone is living in fear.

  20. I wish i could send a voice note right now. Blame your government!!! The right conditions are not created to handle covid patients. Health workers are humans too. They can contract the virus when they are not properly equipped to attend to suspected patients. The oath says "i will protect myself and health so as to render maximum service". They are people's mothers too.
Other countries equip their medical personnel to handle suspected cases.

  23. My uncle died under similar circumstances in the UK, last Friday. He left Nigeria to his base in late February and may have contracted COVID-19 during this time. Over there, they are selectively treating cases and it didn't matter that he was a British citizen, No. All that mattered was that he was in his late 60s and had less chance of survival so they left him in a ward to die.

I call this pandemic World War 3; it has brought both the best and worst out of humanity.

May the souls of the departed rest in peace, and may God grant solace to the bereaved. Amen.

I am a medical doctor and I empathize with this family but asking a doctor to go and attend to someone with symptoms very similar to those of COVID 19 without PPE is tantamount to suicide and I will not do it. We too have family and loved ones. Blame the government and hospital management for failing to do the needful.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Honestly i blame the government.
    Provide PPEs, mba.
Create centers that should be in charge for people who present with covid symptoms, mba.
Doctors are human, they have families too. They can't put themselves at risk without PPEs, since the incident that happened in LUTH about a man's family lying about his travel history, what happened to the doctors, they had to go into isolation after the man died and tested positive.
May God comfort you sir, so sorry for this deep loss.

  29. If my husband was a medical doctor? I would lock him inside the house. No amount of begging will make me open that door. I cannot come and become a widow just because another family wants to save their own.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I'm a medical doctor with a young son. My wife literally cries everytime i go out in the morning for work. Funny thing is i am not even in the frontline. But the truth is the risk of contracting the virus is always higher when you are a health worker. Please pray for us, check up on us. Many of us are finding it hard to meet up our personal needs in this time. If we look at the money we are paid, trust me none of us will leave our houses for anyone. I mean, how will a professional nurse earn less than 100k in a month? How much is transport alone in this Lagos? However it is important to note that even countries with the best healthcare are finding it hard to cope in this pandemic, and that is why i think we need to look up to God in these times because the lasting solution may be beyond us.
