    4. Does he have to? Most especially being sick. Missing in church on 2 Sunday services is enough for them and if they have welfare dept to call him and ask if everything is well with him. That is the responsibility of any good church. After all, Jesus says that “ If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine and go to the mountains to seek the one that is straying?”. Guess church this days is all about money and not about the worshippers #smh

    8. It depends on how big the church is and is he in a department?

    9. @ Unusual, then the church should not bother on the unsigned cheque. If they cannot do roll call, why are they eager that the cheque be signed?

    10. Assuming the man was critically ill and could not communicate??

If he's a regular tithe payer and always use cheque to pay. Then, it's enough reason for them to notice his absence and look for him.

    11. Unusual Amy, that's why we have cells and units in church. That way each member of the church can be accounted for.

    12. Golibe, how will they notice his absence? Do they pay tithe evry Sunday?? SMH!!

If it's a big congregation and he's not in any group, there's NO way they would notice!! Did they force him to pay tithe??

That was how I was on my way driving home from church and another member's car broke down with some members he gave a ride inside. Could you belive they came down, entered my own car and asked me to "Let's go madam, it's getting dark and this place is dangerous". So we should leave the other man whose car broke down?!

Stella this matter is not just about the church leadership, Christians of today are terrible! Coupled with the kind of judgmental personality and hate they exhibit even on this blog...nah I quit church going since last year and have no plans to go anywhere near one soon.

  4. If a member of a denomination is missing from church service for at least three consecutive Sundays, the least the church can do is to call the member to know if they are doing well. That is why they have the welfare group in churches.

They remembered him because the cheque he sent did not go through. That is the kind of church leaders we have today, they care so much about monies, they have forgotten the teachings of Jesus Christ.

    1. Some churches are so big that they won't even notice that a member is sick or not coming to church at all. The best way to feel integrated in big churches is by belonging to small units or home cell groups. That way, help can be rendered through the small unit when a member is in need. Most times, the leaders in the small group can escalate the member's situation to the church leadership and help can be easily rendered.

    2. For a congregation of less than 100 I guess or do people sign in when they come to church every Sunday?

    3. I bet you no church is so big that they won't noticed that a member is missing, especially a member that pays his or her tithes constantly.

I know this because i was member of a very large parish and I was a worker too.

Try not to let all of the church politics get into the head.. Yes I said it .. A lot of church politics if you're not careful you'll be carried away by feeling too important or somehow neglected like that young man there.

  6. I totally agree with you.
Something like that happened to me. I was driving in company of my daughter and a rough danfo driver hit me and flung me out of my car. I was unconscious. My daughter wept uncontrollably calling our pastor's wife who is a pastor too. She ignored the cry.
I was admitted after so much persuasion by my daughter and was in the hospital for a week.Xray done I recovered. I called my daughter teenager pastor to complain to. But that was after I made up my mind to change church.

Though she later called to apologise claiming she did not know the caller but this caller was in tears. And you have been using this caller for teenage programm in the church.
Despite her apology I still found it difficult to continue in the church. I am waiting for them to be transfered out of the parish to resume cause they normally transfer them every 5 years.

  7. For a large church where the member does not attend the home cell meeting, the church may not be aware of his state of health or his absence but where I'm confused his asking for his tithe.

If they can ask for his tithe that means they know him. Whether he told them about his state of health or not, asking him personally to pay his tithe doesn't seem right to me.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Nope, the church did not ask for his tithe. He paid but deliberately didn't sign his cheques and that got the attention of the church's accountant as it rightly should. It's his job

I'm guessing he's a known member of his church and expected his absence from church to be noticed just like the unsigned cheques.

      Delete
    2. Read and understand. He sent the cheque but didn't sign it. They didn't call him to pay the tithe, they were calling for the signature.

Imagine someone attending a church like house on the rock with thousands of members, you think they'd easily notice if someone was absent????

If he had called to tell them he was sick and they ignored then this would be a totally different convo.

We really need to stop jumping on the bandwagon to bash churches and Christianity. We are Christians for crying out loud. Why are we trying to help unbelievers to destroy the church?????

There are things worth speaking against but it seems like people just look for the flimsiest reason to bash the church.

  11. Problem with alot of us is that we are so used to going to 'church' every Sunday. Anyone who does not got to church is branded a sinner. We are so used to idolizing the man on the pulpit that we forget to carefully study scriptures for ourselves. Anyone who tells you to forget about the politics or things that happen around you in your so called church organisations is ignorant. Whilst we are not all perfect beware of so called men of God who are not transparent, not accountable and can not be questioned. Beware of the one who implies that he or she is infallible and has reached perfection and knows the Bible from A to z. Beware of the church organisation that will heap you with guilt for not paying your tithes or giving your offerings. Beware of the church organisation that comes across as being better than other Christian churches. Many so called church-goers see the above signs but because some have been brainwashed without knowing it they remain. Brother/Sister any Christian organisation exhibiting most of the traits I just mentioned above, do not associate with, evil communication corrupts good manners.
Please run from such, for they do not serve Christ but their belly which is their god.

  12. You are the church of Jesus first of all. And if you reside in Nigeria, gone are the days of brotherly love, except for a few churches. All they think is tithe and offering forgetting that the covenant is unto God, not man. Nigerian churches are a big disappointment in as much as they advise joining a small unit to be known. What if it was an unbeliever, shouldn't they care first before thinking money? All I do is follow the bible not church especially the ones here because all they have is only a form of godliness without the power of God.

  15. I really overwhelmed with love when after a robbery attack at my work place last year, the first relief call I got was from my Pastor. I had not even left the scene, he asked if I was okay and all. Mehn, I felt soooo loved. And when we were arrested for "conniving" with the robbers, he sent Pastors to check on me and did everything he could to bail me. God finally took me out of that situation, but my respect for my Pastor tripled. And no, my tithe is not even up to 30k, so it's not the tithe. But if I had not received any help, I would have still continued attending the Church because I expect nothing from anybody. I'm interested in my service to God and I know nobody owes me anything. #IloveRhapsody

  17. If the church is a large one the Pastor may not know him in person but if he belongs to a unit/group/cell fellowship, the leaders there should be asked why a unit member will be absent fo weeks and not be checked on..the argument that he didn't inform them does not hold water. He didn't inform you, did you bother to find out why he has not been in Church?

God will help the Church at this time..Brotherly love is what the church should display. If you don't hear from your brother/sister as you use to will you not be bothered? Won't you go all length to find out if he/she is okay? Would you say he/she didn't inform you?

  19. When my mum and dad separated and asked my mum to leave the house that they joinytly built, having being ministers in the church. She stopped attending mainly because the members and Pastors didnt ask her how she was faring or even try to settle the issue. She became really bitter and resentful, and I'm sure she's still bitter. One thing I told her was not to blame them. Many of these people face a lot of challenges and they may not even remember to help you face yours while facing theirs. I also made it clear to her that she should quit expecting things from people.
It will be very unfair to decide from these chats that the Church is not merciful to him because we don't know the whole story. While, it may be true that the Church didn't ask after him, there might be underlying reasons. If his tithe was about 500 naira, would he still have been hurt that the Church didn't ask after him. In my opinion, he feels, given the amount of tithe he pays(cos he even stated it here, and I'm wondering why), he should be considered an important person and should be recognized by the Church. Having said that, I encourage people to quit bashing churches. Nobody forces anybody to go to Church or give tithe. And if you attach your importance to the amount of tithe you give and expect to be treated like president, stop going to Church. I know people who don't give tithe at all, and those who give it elsewhere, life is a choice. If the Church you attend doesn't suit you, stop going to Church, don't even attend another, cos you'll face the same issue there. If you must go to Church, do it for the love of God and expect nothing in return.

    1. You have said the truth. And the truth is many churches in Nigeria are sadly more concerned with collecting tithes and offerings than the welfare of their members, especially those that have little or nothing. When the pandemic started many didn't even care about the health and welfare of their members but insisted on them attending church. The truth will always be revealed. God bless your parish Golibe.

People barely pay tithes recently in all churches apart from very few workers and others.

My church has over 2k capacity at a sitting so if I fall sick my pastor will never know except I make a call to him. Again, there are people that pay such heavy amount so one persons own may not stand out like that especially in a town like pH. I blame the church if they were aware and didn't call the young man and I will blame the guy if he was just a church goer with belonging to any unit.

  29. We are The “church”, The Body of Christ who dwells in us through the Holy Spirit. However we are admonished to “not forsake assembling together” , it does not state how often and no technology revelation like the big birds or aircrafts John saw in the book of revelation!

Regardless, “we are God’s workmanship, created in Jesus Christ for good works”. Here to me is the takeaway other than the fact that not only is each CHRISTIAN the church but his letter to the world. “Nevertheless the foundation of God stands sure having this seal, God knows THOSE who are HIS, and let everyone that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity”. Those are from the Bible. Depart from sin. God knows his own. He is his own librarian that cannot be corrupted.
The book of life, the book of remembrance, and “the books were opened” in revelation are all under God’s control. Not subject to egunje as we call it in Naija. Know and face your God. Respect everyone but “call no man your father” is in the Bible! Poverty is rising but religion is booming. Something isn’t right there. Know your bible and respect but don’t worship any human being. They can pray just like you but only God can ANSWER prayer!
