    1. Thats the reality of the world ..where will you start from to teach students who dont even have proper classroom or literate teachers ...talk less of computer ..maybe they can be collecting handout once a week to study at home ..and Data in Nigeria is very expensive so its only schools that pay good money that can provide such services ..has the parents of the local school finish feeding them before they talk of data..is sad

    2. It's true about the on line stuff. We were asked to pay 3rd term tuition fee. Boarding and tuck shop remains whenever they reopen. They have started 3rd term syllabus but na me dey still buy data. Only thing is ut keeps them occupied till 4pm weekdays.

    1. Why are we all sounding as if we didn't pay school fees before the shutdown. If it's for the cost of data, there are many costs that the school management won't include due to the lockdown e.g. school bus, electricity, buying of utility etc.

We will pay school fees by 3rd term.

Thou it's a catholic missionary school but I'm amazed at the goodness of the Rev FR who is the principal. No school fees asked yet. They are more of boarding students.

    4. My daughter school started last week too and they have not asked for any fees yet,my data is now groaning under the weight as it is from 9pm to 4pm,highly appreciated as it keeps her busy despite the fact she reads 2hours daily.

  6. Government should arrange a national teaching platforms for the poor via radio( for those who can't afford TV and probably when no light) and TV stations. since they use the same curriculum.

  7. I agree. The kids that attend public primary and secondary schools whose parents can't even afford to feed them well not to talk of being able to afford a good android phone, laptop, data can't benefit from it.

It's just a pity that the gap between the 'have' and 'have not' keeps getting broader by the day. It is well.

  8. My children's school commenced theirs last week.
It's best to me but unavoidably not everyone can be opportuned.
Before now I wanted a private tutor but their father vehemently refused.
It keeps them busy and keeps me in sane.
It does last for two hours.
We have not been asked to pay anything YET.
Since the lockdown I have always had constant headaches .
I have treated malaria but instill feel headache due to shouting and settling fights.
    It's not easy .

  11. We need to understand that we can't have it all!!

Parents should do home school for their kids as much as they can!! I'm wondering how kids of below 5 will sit down and concentrate during an online class!!..

Our government is already not helping matters but let is try and improvise as much as we can!!

Nobody can really have it all!!!

If you have a tv that does screen mirroring other than a tab, it is easier and convenient. Less jumping and no questions. Sometimes they get angry and flip the practical desk, oriegwu.

The Senior ones do lots of Skyping hours with the hands on instructors and tutors,if there are materials in need apart from the ones they were provided with,I go to Bookshos at 6pm.

Most Montessori schools have been having online classes during hols so this isn't new.Practical exams come up after break because of time.

  12. That pics is very deep. To start with! data is very expensive in Nigeria. This pandemic has shown that the physical challenges and full time house wife can actually work from home and still do online courses too.

These days I spend like 3500 every two weeks on data. All the network have increased their tariff and extra charges including VAT. Even the average cnt access online stuff. Govt really need to do something about these, regulate the telecom and also have indigenous Telecom company! Nigerians are paying way to much on data. My company paid for online courses in Udemy to study online but I cnt do much becos of data. Am supposed to learn alot but if am spending more than 10k on data every month! Biko how much is my salary. Friends abroad want to do video call with you on WhatsApp or fb but I keep giving excuses becos I dey manage my data..

Gone are those days you can use 1gig or 2gig for one month. Right now is not possible. Only the very rich can do this online study for their kids biko.

  14. If it's expensive, there is more than one way to skin a cat of education. I just urge the parents to get the service of their anyone in the house to educate the children including them. Since in this lockdown most of the family are completely home. There could neighbour who could do it for the sake of love since most are idle and available. The children just have to be serious.

I wonder how it would work sef. How many parents have laptop or a big tablet for convenience? How many can afford the data. The ones that can sef, how good will the Internet be??? They will be talking and the thing will be hanging or breaking.

It's just for the rich living in highly urban areas abeg.

They should just scrap it and wait for when schools can resume.

    1. Point fo correction, you don't have to be super rich to do this. All you need is a laptop or a tablet. Worst case scenario,a phone and data. I believe an average nigeria has this.my husband and i are not rich but we are comfortabke. Our monthly data subcription is 8k and it is unlimited. My hubsnad has a laptop, i have a laptop which i had since my kaw school days, 8 years ago. That is what my daughter uses for her online classes now.

    4. Anon 14:19 how many “average” Nigerians do we have? She’s even saying Ikorodu, Ikorodu is ok na....what about places like ajegunle, okokomaiko, how many average Nigerian can you find there? How many Nigerians actually have laptops, not to talk of ones in working condition. You’d be surprised that even those that have laptops can’t even use it. Some people the only thing they know how to use their laptops for is to watch movies. Same with some peolple with android phones, only thing they know how to do is social media and pictures(no offense) Lol please don’t let me remember things Abeg. It won’t work for all and that’s the truth. What should be discussed is alternatives for parents that can’t afford this or set this up. An alternative would be for parents to personally teach their kids when they can. When they can, because I know it’s not going to be easy taking care of the home and still teaching. I really feel for parents with little ones these days.

  16. Of course, there's no place/space for online lessons for the poor!
They can't afford the payment, no gadget neither internet access nor constant light to power their gadgets when the batteries run down.

When you here we are in this together, you begin to question your sanity... In what together?

When there are numerous people who can't afford two square meals

  17. My kids school resumed since last week using micorsoft teems. And so far sp good. They haven't sent school fee yet and according to them the fee is going to be significantly reduced this team
A friend of mine whose kid attend a boarding school said the school said they will only pay 150k this team as against 400k which they normally pay.

Im pained that@ the time Private schools are askung 4 Fees( some full fees) its British Curriculum that put me in this Spot ooooooooooooooo

    2. Whaoooo. That school is unreasonable. percent reduction for what. How much is that. Less than a 100k. What about the data you will spend, money for fuel to power gen so they can have access to the class uninterrupted. And I'm sure you might even need to do some printing. This is unacceptable. If i were to be in that school, this is when i will know my time is up there. They are suppose to be compassionate.

  18. some schools are organizing live classes for their students and they’re demanding for full pay.
Imagine this scenario, husband and wife are now working from home and they have three kids, they’ll have to get three tablets for each of them if they don’t have, parents attention are more divided now because they have to make sure the kids concentrate to study in their respective Zoom classes. A lot of parents are already complaining that it’s too stressful for them . If your children’s class is via WhatsApp, your case is different please. I can’t imagine paying full school fees in this pandemic for a child that is less than 7 years old abeg, it’s another way for these schools to make money out of parents. Some are arguing about how teachers will be paid this period, meanwhile most school owners have informed their teachers they’ll be paying half salary henceforth. I don’t even see why we’re in a rush because we don’t even know how things will turn out after the pandemic. What if Lagos state for example cancels third term and inform schools to resume by September? , state government is in charge of school calendar so anything can happen. Parents can download khan academy kids and teach the children Themselves. This is not the time to waste money because we don’t know when this pandemic will end.

    1. It's so easy to say,I am a non academic staff of a school, I am like 70% sure we won't see anything this month. I can't blame the school owners for asking for some part of the school fees how will they get money to pay the teachers even the 1/2 salary. The fact that you may pay your wards school fee's early means others would. In my school ther are some big parents who have not payed last terms school fees, those who pay early is what the school manages till exam period then they can drag their debt then. Tor this Corona didn't allow schools to drag their debtors that is why they are asking for payment of school fee for the online school.

  20. We paid part of the school fees- #250,000 plus buy internet data for online teaching, you still have to supervise your child according to the School Timetable. I can't wait for the lock down to be over and for life to hopefully return back to normal.

  21. I teach middle school (Year 7 to 9) and we've been learning online for over one week now.

I must confess you don't necessarily need to be stupendously rich to access this service; all you need is data and a laptop.

However, most people erroneously assume it'd be very expensive because they're not abreast of the how it works.

Most schools that offer these services actually reduced their school fees by about 60% percent and parents gladly signed up.

Note: The resources are readily available on the internet but it takes someone in the field to know where to look.

My nephew's school is holding online classes on WhatsApp,make videos and do exercises and submit on WhatsApp,cant be too hard, atleast to keep them busy and brain refreshed so that once they resume they do their exams and continue with the next term. This is without extra cost.
Well true many people cannot afford it,more especially public publics, when covid19 ends everybody will be alright

  23. I weep so much for this country. The gap between the rich and poor is just too wide. Now,some people are talking about 3rd term, while others have not even started 2ñd term examination and they will do nothing until the whole mess is cleared.
Parents are not earning as they should, schools are not earning, teachers/staff too can't receive anything at the end of the month.
