ETIQUETTE You Should Know....

.... Don’t call someone more than twice continuously. If they don’t pick up your bcall, presume they have something important to attend to and wait for them to call back...

-. Return money that you have borrowed even before the other person remembers asking for it from you. It shows your integrity and character. Same goes with umbrellas, pens and lunch boxes;

-. Never order the expensive dish on the menu when someone is giving you a lunch/dinner. If possible ask them to order their choice of food for you;

-. Don’t ask awkward questions like ‘Oh so you aren’t married yet?’ Or ‘Don’t you have kids’ or ‘Why didn’t you buy a house?’ Or why don't you buy a car? For God’s sake it isn’t your problem;

-. Always open the door for the person coming behind you. It doesn’t matter if it is a guy or a girl, senior or junior. You don’t grow small by treating someone well in public;

-. If you take a taxi with a friend and he/she pays now, try paying next time;

-. Respect different shades of opinions. Remember what's 6 to you will appear 9 to someone facing you. Besides, second opinion is good for an alternative;

-. Never interrupt people talking. Allow them to pour it out. As they say, hear them all and filter them all;

- If you tease someone, and they don’t seem to enjoy it, stop it and never do it again. It encourages one to do more and it shows how appreciative you're;

-. Say “thank you” when someone is helping you.

-. Praise publicly. Criticize privately;

-. There’s almost never a reason to comment on someone’s weight. Just say, “You look fantastic.” If they want to talk about losing weight, they will;

-. When someone shows you a photo on their phone, don’t swipe left or right. You never know what’s next;

-. If a colleague tells you they have a doctors' appointment, don’t ask what it’s for, just say "I hope you’re okay". Don’t put them in the uncomfortable position of having to tell you their personal illness. If they want you to know, they'll do so without your inquisitiveness;

-. Treat the cleaner with the same respect as the CEO. Nobody is impressed at how rude you can treat someone below you but people will notice if you treat them with respect;

-. If a person is speaking directly to you, staring at your phone is rude;

- Never give advice until you’re asked;

-. When meeting someone after a long time, unless they want to talk about it, don’t ask them their age and salary;

-. Mind your business unless anything involves you directly - just stay out of it;

- Remove your sunglasses if you are talking to anyone in the street. It is a sign of respect. Moreso, eye contact is as important as your speech;

- Never talk about your riches in the midst of the poor. Similarly, don't talk about your children in the midst of the barren...or talk about your spouses around those who don't have.

  1. That calling someone continuously vexes me. For goodness sake if I don't pick your call after the second ring, I'm either not with the phone or I'm busy. Why should I be seeing 5 missed calls when it's not an emergency?!

  12. Seriously, People need to learn to mind their business. Like, stop being nosy!! I remember when I was going through my miscarriages, some people were constantly asking me when I was going to get pregnant. Someone said, "oh, you've been married since August, you should be spitting by now" I couldn't celebrate my birthday in peace, wedding anniversary without people talking about pregnancy. I couldn't celebrate my friend's deliveries on my whatsapp status without people reminding me about the fact that I was yet to be a mom. It was tiring.

    There were people that would constantly bug me about pregnancy. Like every single month. I remember going off on about 3 people when I couldn't take it anymore. I was going through a lot. Yet people who didn't know half of what I was going through were so insensitive. Let's all learn to mind our business.

    Stop telling your unmarried friends or relatives to go get married. Stop asking newly weds or people who have been married for a while about children. It isn't your business! If you're on this table, come down!
    Stop telling parents who have one child to go give birth to more children. SMH

    If you're really concerned about them, pray for them during your quiet time.

    How would you feel if someone constantly bugs you about an area of your life which isn't perfect? Or you think you have a perfect life? Please let's do better.

I once shared my birthday cake with her and she told me' This is not the type of cake I want to eat', I want your wedding cake.

      Let us be considerate and mindful of what we say to others in the guise of being concerned.

    About the taxi.. There was a day I and a friend of mine were going for a wedding. We were to take 2 busses before getting to our destination. So I paid the first,was thinking she'll pay the second but she didn't so I paid. When we were to go home, we entered the first bus, she pretended she was on the phone so i paid. Entering the last bus,she sat at the back so when the conductor collects money he'll get to me before her. That was how I paid for both the coming and going.

    Since then, I vowed never to go anywhere with her. Even if it's a mutual friends place, she'll go on her own, I'll go on mine. Another mutual friend of ours told me she did the same exact thing to him.

    1. Wetin dey there? You would have simply told her "babe, the tp is N#, bring your own share"
      Simple and short!

    2. I've experienced such before.

    3. Instead of this, why not bluntly tell her she'll be the one to pay for her fares?

    4. I have experienced this too,with different people going out with bus or cab! Well I will just pay and forget about it

    2. This is the behavior of rigid people, you think of yourself so important but you're nothing.
      You don't pick strange calls, what's strange about call?
      You be Bill gate ?

    3. This is how people miss great opportunities. Who are you not to pick numbers not stored in your contacts? Kmt!

    4. I also don't pick calls from unknown numbers. Now, if I were job hunting, that would be different.

  36. Also when someone gives birth. Never ask the sex of the baby especially on phone. Some will ask and if its a sex they are not happy with. You could hear their joy drop. It's rude and annoying especially if the mother shares your disappointment. Stop it

  37. Wat of it is an emergency call? if someone keeps calling n the person never did such before,it means there is something important

    1. No qualms if it's emergency but when it's to know how you're doing, it's no longer ok.

  39. Early morning calls jolt me, scare me, making me think there's emergency. Why call that early to know how am doing?

    1. Me too... Can you please not call so early? Imagine calling someone at 6am to just check on them? Ah! My eyes have seen something

  40. I call you twice, with three to four minutes interval.
    If you don't pick up, that's the end.
    I end a relationship because of that, don't expect me to call you the third time.
    Acknowledge my calls by calling me back or send me a message.
    Anything short of that, I'm done.

  41. When I was serving,I met a lady and we became friends. Boy did I pay for that friendship. If we are going somewhere,she'll suggest we do "three in one". I hate that arrangement with the whole of my heart,but to save money,I'll just oblige. Now when we reach our destination, it's either she starts acting drama,looking for what is not missing in her purse,or she just alights and stands there with a straight face,waiting for me to pay up. Lol. When we go to get groceries, another story. She will refuse to get some things,claiming she doesn't need them and when we are done shopping, she'll start asking me for those same things. Borrowed myself brain and faced my apartment. Refused to go anywhere with her and saved myself all the unnecessary trouble.

    1. "Three in one"... What does that even mean?

  42. I noticed that nobody talked at length about treating poorer people with dignity and respect. Is it because most Nigerians treat their domestic help and drivers with wickedness? Leaving your driver in the car at 100 F while you enter an air conditioned place to hang out is classless! Slapping an orphan or maid because they are below you socioeconomically should be on that list! Most Nigerians are barely 2 generations removed from poverty but they act like a Rockefeller! Pretending to be better than others. Treat your subordinates and domestic help with dignity and respect. Don’t make a 16 year old wake up at 4am to start work till 12 midnight, you offend God when you do that!

    1. It's up there.. Treat everyone with respect, doesn't matter whether poor or rich. There are Nigerians who do so.
