Police IG Orders Probe Of E-Money Over Flamboyant Lifestyle And Withdraws His Police Escorts

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has ordered the probe of the Chairman, Five Star Group, Emeka Okonkwo aka E-Money, over his flamboyant lifestyle and flagrant abuse of police escorts...

Okonkwo, who is the brother to musician, Kingsley Okonkwo aka K-Cee, was said to have drawn the ire of the police boss for using policemen like domestic servants.

It learnt that An order, was immediately issued to the Lagos State Police Command to withdraw the six policemen attached to E-Money.

A top police officer said, “We received a signal from the Force headquarters on Monday that the police detail of music executive, E-Money, be immediately withdrawn and an investigation into the man be launched.

“The IG was surprised that policemen were attached to him in the first place and were being used like domestic servants, carrying umbrellas, opening doors, and doing menial jobs for him.

“The policemen were discovered to be attached to B Operations at the command headquarters and not MOPOL which is the usual practice. So, we have withdrawn his policemen and we are inviting him for questioning. The policemen will also be interrogated.”

E-Money, who also claims to be a clearing and forwarding agent, is known for his flamboyant lifestyle.

He boasts of two Rolls Royce, two Mercedes Benz G Wagons and other Sports Utility Vehicles worth billions of naira.

The socialite is often seen on social media shaking hands with Very Important Persons including governors, senators, monarchs, ministers, and other top government officials.

The probe into E-Money comes less than a year after that of an Instagram celebrity, Ismaila Mustapha aka Mompha, who was also known to show off his ostentatious lifestyle on social media.

Sources told The PUNCH that more social media celebs are also on the radar of the police and other law enforcement agencies.

E-money is not the only wealthy person in Nigeria using police escort,if they are going to probe, let them probe others too,not just make one a scapegoat, lots of people in Nigeria with questionable wealth, especially these young men and women in town now, probe them all and Naija politicians too are thieves stealing the country money, probe them all,not the one that one hungry man will steal chicken and they will throw tyre on his neck and burn him or send him to 20yrs imprisonment instead of feeding him rehabilitate or empower him.Don't make the law for some and let others get away scot free***Adequate security is very important,Naija government should work on this,we don't feel secure in Nigeria, reason why we use Mopol escort.

    11. A lot of people especially politicians launder money while hiding under the pretence of business men.

Yes, he flaunts himself online but what about Dino Melaye and others who live the life of show offs? Our celebrities nko??? How much do they make per movie or show??

E-Money may be laundering money as well but I can attest to him having many chains of legit businesses.
He's not just a clearing agent like many have been saying but owns a VESSEL. That alone is a lot of money.

I do hope he learns his lessons and live life on the lowkey after his probe.
But truth is life will be so boring if we all decide to live a certain way.

    1. Yes it's called audit. Businesses are often audited in the USA but it's done by the IRS which is the govt agency responsible for taxes. When they come for you eh, they will calculate every single cent to the last cent. If thing's don't add up, you go to jail. Even Trump was audited during his campaign. I'm sure they should have it in Nigeria but it may be corrupt and no transparency.

      Delete
    2. Wow.
      Thanks a lot.
So in other words the police hijacked another ministry's job?
Biko no vex,I just want to know if the police have the right to probe.

      Delete
    3. Well, I believe the police have the right to invite any civilian for questioning and to arrest the individual if they have some evidence and warrant of arrest. The judge can then send the case to the IRS to audit the individual and add to the evidence against him.

Also normal people are free to send 'anonymous tips' to both the police and IRS if they suspect any fraudulent activity eg if your neighbor is living above his means..or your boss is evading taxes etc. The suspected individual though has the right to a tax attorney to represent him in court or in all the audit sessions. That's why most large companies have a team of lawyers.

      Delete
    4. NiB, Nigeria auditing system is corrupt. A lot of financial atrocities that goes on underground will surprise you. Both state IRS and FIRS are guilty of this. All you need to do is package your brown envelope very well, let it be heavy and you're good to go. We have a loooonnnnnnggggg way to go in Nigeria.

    1. Exactly my sentiments in my always anonymous post below. Why should naija taxpayers be at the beck and call of the 7 wives plus oga? Why should a senator and his family and cronies have police stations at home while your police station has only 4 policemen and a rickety pick-up and risk their lives to rescue you? And why should they? They probably lobby to get posted to these folks homes!
The police chief may have opened a can of worms as some of us have friends who are regular folks with police escorts in their G wagons to impress not realizing they actually seem pathetic when we discuss the country as they are part of the problem!

You may say they are not regular folks but a well paid professional receives offers in the mail weekly to buy Porsche, BMW and Mercedes here, so owning it is no big deal as there are some neighbors with 2 Mercedes G wagon plus 2 cayenne! Some homes with 3 car garages will still have 3 cars in the driveway. It’s NOT a big deal after getting to a point in your professional career, of course not in all areas! However it’s not most people’s priority! The point is there needs to be mobility in the society and owning a cop is not part of their “dubious success”! How come it’s the affluent that are on welfare in Nigeria and the poor are suffering? It’s the opposite everywhere else! Government house is theirs, their car is from Goverment! That is welfare and it’s upside down!

Stop adoring and idolizing their wealth and they will stop stealing to get it. For those who will say you pay car note overseas , yes, if owning a G wagon is your priority, you put 30% down and they see your income, they happily give you because they know you can pay the rest monthly till it’s paid off. That is how an equitable society gets assets to all its people not one where an apartment in a place with no good roads and infrastructure is priced higher than an upper Manhattan penthouse! For real? It’s obvious they don’t work for the money to buy it!

The total number of luxury cars in the entire Nigeria is not up to what you have in a small city like Charlotte North Carolina and it’s subs don’t even mention LA & it’s subs or Chicago and it’s suburbs where every affluent sub has a massive luxury car dealership. Google the price of Range Rover Evoque that they use to pose! It’s one of the cheapest luxury cars second hand! People here drop it after a year or 2 because it’s not well made and spoils quickly thereby increasing the cost of ownership vs other luxury brands!

Yeyebrities will pose beside it and use it for 6 months hoping sugar dad will help buy the spare parts!

Wake up young Nigerians, some were defending Prof Gambari’s appointment! Are you kidding me! He was a minister while I was in high school! I’m over fifty! Why pick a 75 year old goverment jobber? He lives off government as an oligarch and used it as a platform for everything on his resume yet at 75 some of you here may do a much better job. Many were defending it not realizing they are wasting 3 generations with geriatric appointments if a generation is 20 to 25 years. The boomers, Gen X, Millenials, and Gen Z especially the last 2 are all being relegated to runs and yahoo while not creating a society where their talents can be put to use!

How many degrees did Rahm Emmanuel get to be Obama’s White House chief of staff in a well run drama free White House? I pray for naija!

      Delete
  41. Ok, folks should pause and cool down! Nothing will come out of this, not that I don’t want anything to come out if there is but nothing will come out. It’s not against any ethnic group. It is a NATIONAL SHAME for one individual (He isn’t the only one) to have 6, as in SIX COPS assigned to him! Cops are paid by taxpayers. Entrepreneurs on this blog, set up private security companies! That is what JayZ, Beyoncé, even Trump before he held public office use! It’s a booming business as wives hire them as investigators and folks use them as non uniform wearing but armed security men! There was even a picture of a cop carrying madam’s purse.

No abuse but I’m ashamed of boomers, millenials and Gen Z on this blog DEFENDING any sort of probe on the basis of tribe or tongue or anything. If Nigeria is going to become better we have to forget this tribe thing. I’m not i I but a lot of people speak it to me as they think I am and since I took classes in Igbo over 35 years ago in an FGGC (when they were like Prep schools), I can “maka gini” or “ibuolachi” or “Abuolamchi” anyone! I know enough Igbo and my best friend here is Igbo! Nigeria needs to work for the Hausa in IDP camp as well as the Igbo in Alaba and the mama eleko in Yaba! If this generation is reflected in these comments there is little hope in Nigeria! Someone mentioned one of the Kardashians! No! I thought most young Nigerians live online and should know the history of the billionaire among them Kylie Jenner. Mega brands want Kylie to just mention their brands in a tweet and cough out $millions! The clan was helped by their Momager Mother! No comparison with any rich Nigerian! Same with jayz and Beyonce! We need to be a humble nation. Let as many Emoney as we have all over be probed, I’m fine with that. Start with my parents village and county, I have a few ones in mind! Let’s get over our tribal instincts! No abuse! I fit born many on this blog!
