WHO To Commence COVID 19 Vaccine Trials In Nigeria

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has disclosed Nigeria has indicated interest to be part of the solidarity trial of vaccine for coronavirus (COVID-19) and that efforts are underway to start the process in the country.

The WHO Country Representative in Nigeria, Dr Fiona Braka made this disclosure at the daily briefing of the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19 of which she is a member.

According to her, there are rigorous processes involved in approving a vaccine for any disease adding that 89 vaccines are currently in development globally.

Braka said: “on the subject of vaccines and clinical trials for COVID-19, I will like to say that research and development is an important aspect of the response and researchers around the world are working hard on accelerating the development of vaccines and therapeutics for Covid-19.

“WHO has launched various working groups to accelerate various aspects of vaccine development.

“Together with global health actors and partners, over the past week, WHO launched the Access to Covid-19 Tools ACT Accelerator, a global collaboration to accelerate development for equitable access to new Covid-19 diagnostics, therapeutics, and vaccines.

“We have a total of 89 vaccines that are in development globally, including seven in clinical evaluation and several therapeutics are in clinical trials.

“WHO is committed to ensuring that as medicines and vaccines are developed, they are shared equitably with all countries and people.

“We do have the solidarity trial which is an international clinical trial to help find an effective treatment for Covid-19, launched by the WHO and partners.

“More than 100 countries have joined the solidarity trial and to date, over 1, 200 patients have been randomized from the first five countries to evaluate the safety and efficacy of full drug and drug combinations.

“Nigeria has also expressed interest to be part of this solidarity trial and efforts are underway to start the process in Nigeria”,

  2. Well, they normally use the trial vaccines on the very sick anyway. Currently in Washington, they are using the first trial vaccine they made for Ebola and it’s been effective. Who would have thought a vaccine, made for Ebola which wasn’t even successful, would be successful in treating COVID - 19??

    1. What do you mean by “effective”? And are you able to share the credible source that shows that data?

    2. A vaccine is for prevention not for treatment, so I don’t understand what you mean by using vaccines on the very sick.
Please get your facts right and don’t misinform people.

  8. There is bill that has passed its 2nd reading about the Federal Govt making it mandatory for all citizens to be vaccinated and refusal to take said vaccine is a criminal offence.

    So this is why...interesting.

I have the link but not sure if Stella will post.

    1. Yes it should be a criminal offense cos it means the person will be deliberately endangering the lives of others.

    2. Sorry, that bill will fall through.
You don't force people to get vaccinated.

How many citizens have they forced to get free medical treatments, free food, free housing, free education, take good jobs upon graduation etc?

Nigerians need free basic things of live from the FG.

  9. Nigeria always in the rush on anything the white offers. Why not engage Madagascar and know how they succeeded in handling theirs that made them treat 92 patients and no record of any death.

    1. Don't even bother cos they won't listen, ass licking government

    2. Simple and painful answer, Madagascar is not a caucasian country and will not pay them dollars. The US has about 68000 deaths and a million confirmed cases from this virus, is that not a good place to start? Why should we be part of the Guinea pigs of the world. Did they test Ebola vaccines on Nations with minority case loads?
If they must use us, we need to demand $3000 hazard payment, per person , per test. N1000,000+ per person, per test. At that rate, they'll find people everywhere.

    3. Anything that comes from Africa is inferior. WHO refused to accept Madagascar's cure because they won't make money from it like the vaccine. WHO is always feeling superior as whatever they bring is final and accurate. Before that vaccine, many Naija will start ordering the Madagascar'S covid organics. Shame on pa Buhari and APC. God has given us everything we need to cure this... So many herbs to use but just because of fear of the West not giving them aids, they decided to dance to the tune of WHO's music.
      Shame on Mr Covik 1-9.

  10. Other Africa countries are saying no.Nigeria is saying YES.Are we lab rats now for Christ sake.Or what type of country is this?

  11. Let the representative of WHO in Nigeria and her family members and all those in power/or Authority of Nigeria and willing Nigerian volunteers take the the vaccines. Nobody should be forced or deceived into taking it. Especially those in the villages or ignorant of dangers of certain drugs, should not be deceived.
have families of the Pfizer vaccine in Kano state been compensated?
Who will compensate Victims of vaccine gone wrong in Nigeria?

  15. Funny thing is that the NASS are secretly reading and passing a bill that will make it mandatory. It has gone two readings already. Once it is passed then we will be forced to take it and a certificate issued. Some Reps members are raising objection on it already but I don't know how far their voice can go.

    3. Why would they make it mandatory. Hope there are no ulterior or sinister motives behind this. Vacines are for prevention. Is covid 19 the only killer virus ravaging the nation.. It's good but shld be optional abeg. whick me is certificate again.

  16. Anti-vaxers oya ooo, pls don't take the vaccine, they will put a nano chip and before you know you have been marked for the beast(Pun intended).

  17. I will surely take it,vaccine has been know to safe lives! There are lots of people who have died due to ignorance, a guy died of HIV just because he was told the drug can kill, 12 years later the wife is alive and healthy because God kept her and she's using her HIV drug religiously,
