  5. Virtually all his songs explains Nigeria's abysmal state.
I always refer people to "listen" to 'Basket Mouth' & 'Army Arrangement'.

    Very apt description.

  10. Oh fela, he was a good musician, so unique! I grew up listening to fela's songs here and there but I was not really paying attention. Till my ex gave me an Ipod, with plenty songs, different albums of different musicians.
One day I decided to listen to his songs and omg I was hooked, like why have I not been listening to this legend? He spoke about the ills of this nation in his songs.
Continue to rest in peace Fela.

  13. I love him for who he was, but singing rubbish about your country and and calling your country names without providing solution is a no for me.
After all, there no country that is perfect.

    1. He helped in creating awareness since we like to do suffering and smiling, he let us know that things are very bad. So we should stop decieving ourseleves. Even now, what is the solution, he has told us our problems we too we should think and find solution to them. But no we will sit in our houses comfortably complaining about things not working. No body speaks up to the government. Nobody to hold them accountable.

  18. Anon 13:03, Fela wasn’t abusing or demeaning his country. He directed his songs to exposing bad folks in Government or other groups oppressing fellow Nigerians with their colonial mentality. All Fela sang about over 35 years ago! “, “Yellow fever nko e de,“ “Pastor na enjoyment, imam na gbaladun” are so prescient! ALL Fela’s songs from 3 to 5 decades ago are apt. From the stealing and corruption to colonial mentality, to bleaching of skin, to stealing under the guise of religion, to militarized lawless police etc are even worse now. He was not abusing his country.

You can’t love or give more to Nigeria than he and his family did. His mom the famous Funmi Ransome Kuti was a true women’s rights activist. His dad, Rev Ransome Kuti was a patner with Bishop Ajayi Crowther and others in bringing Christianity to some parts of Nigeria, his brothers Dr Beko Kuti (an incorruptible activist) and Prof Olikoye Ransome Kuti all fought for the good of Nigeria. You can’t love Nigeria more than the Kutis.

No wonder JayZ and some African Americans posthumously honored him with a broadway show, the highest honor they could have given him. I pity the current generation of young Nigerians with comments like yours. Don’t point out and fix what’s wrong with your country as long as you think you benefit. I use the word “think” because the elites who go for regular check ups are in bad shape and many have fallen victim to their unbridled greed having refused to set up a health care structure with well equipped hospitals with well trained professionals in Nigeria. They now see what Fela saw! No abuse just read or ignore. As I will continue to say anonymously, use social media to develop Nigeria, we have no civil rights activists again! Use the power of social media to make Nigeria better! #saynotocorruption. #wearetiredofsuffering. #stayhimeandbuildhospitals #stopwastingfxtotreatearacheineurope
