Labour Room Drama 291

When there is no drama in the drama!!!

Dear Stella,

I sent shared a LRD few years ago and I am back again. You know how women say to the doctor: "I am not coming back anytime soon, and the doctor responds " Oh, you will be back, that's what you all always say"

Pregnancy was super smooth, ( I enjoy pregnancy, labour and after care is what tires me, lol) No morning sickness or cravings, Due to my job, I barely made it go antenatals but I took my routine drugs has often as I remembered (This pregnancy came with forgetfulness. Once I forgot I had just taken my drugs and took overdose).

I also experienced leg and pelvic pains around the third trimester due to low calcium. It made getting up a herculean task every morning. All that vanished as soon as calcium was added to my meds which the doctors refused to prescribe initially.

When the lockdown came, I was happy and thoroughly enjoyed it as I didn't have to go to parade my tummy at work and wonder what people were thinking when they see me (I work with oyibos, you know those ones who think you are suffering yourself by having kids). Plus I now had time to go for hospital appointments. Although, I was initially scared of COVID, the hospital put in place adequate measures which doused my worries. I just prayed and let go of fear.

Fast forward to a forthnight to my EDD, I woke up to mild pains. I had been experiencing Braxton hicks for weeks, so I concluded this was one.
However, this persisted so I decided to time it. It was 7 to 10 minutes apart lasted for 20 seconds. I woke my husband, and he insisted it was time to visit the hospital. Reluctantly, I obeyed even though I knew it was still early labour.

We arrived before 5am and I was checked by the doctor on duty.
"Madam you are not yet up to 1cm. What do you want to do? Will you go home or should I admit you?"

Ha, I was sad, with this kind of pain, Are you telling me labour hasn't even started?

We chose to go back home so that I could get some rest. The doctor asked that I did some tests before leaving. While waiting for the tests, another doctor advised me to walk around to ease the pain. I walked for a short distance and the pains were unbearable. The contractions were now 3 to 5 minutes apart. I told my husband I couldn't walk again. I remembered a few stories of people who sang praises during labour and received miracles. I tried to sing but nothing came out.

I said God this isn't what we agreed o, we agreed that within 20 minutes of labour, I would have given birth, which one is this? Please help me. I felt like using the toilet but nothing came out.( I had so much relieve just sitting on the toilet bowl, I didn't understand ).

At that point, I asked to be checked again, but my husband said there was no need as it wasnt up to 30 minutes that I was checked, plus the doctor had ended his shift and left.

We got home 7am, and I couldn't get out of the car. The contractions were now back to back and I couldn't catch a break. I was literally screaming, so we returned back to the hospital. I kept wondering if they check again and say I am 3 or 4cm, what will I do? How much longer can I bear this pain? Will I survive the afternoon or night like this?

I prayed and asked God to do a miracle because I was so ready to fight with any doctor that will tell me that I wasn't yet ready to have my baby.

Once at the hospital, I started screaming, "Are you a doctor, come and check me"
A female doctor had to leave her patient to attend to me. "Madam, you about 8cm. You will go to the delivery room immediately"

I muttered thank God.

I was wheeled to the delivery and as I laid on the bed, I shouted on the nurses to deliver my baby.

" Madam you are not up to 10 cm, just wait let us put this catheter in your hand in case we want to give you drip. Oga, where is your hospital bag? Go and bring it."

I refused o: "Stop poking my hand, leave me, I said I want to poo"
A nurse had to check and said I was fully dilated.

I pushed thrice and my baby was born weighing 3.25kg. I didn't have a tear.

The midwife handed him to me. I placed him on my chest and blessed him "You are a good child, thank you for not stressing your mummy. Thank you for not giving me tear".

When my husband arrived with the bag, the nurses congratulated him and he replied: " So fast?

May God grant every pregnant woman speedy labour and visit all who are TTC with their babies soon in Jesus Name.

Thank you Stella, see a picture of my baby with the famous disclaimer (for your eyes only, lol)

Congratulations, your boy is soooooo handsome, look t his nose!!!!!
