    1. If he's cured why not? No one knows tomorrow. Refusing to marry a man bcos of his past medical history of mental illness is synonymous to discrimination which is bad.

    1. Being once diagnosed with mental illness is not a death sentence. It's just like having high blood pressure, HIv or diabetes and taking your medications. In fact people with psychiatric problems are even safer and live longer than the rest. Except if they refuse to take their drugs, that's when there will be problems

    2. No I can't because, I'd be living in fears and sleeping with one eye closed. Except I didn't know before we got married...

  10. This one hard ooo. But some people who had it might not tell their spouse, they get married, use drugs secretly and no episodes or drama. Just like the case of those that had HIV before marriage and they didn't tell their partner, but use their drugs religiously and secretly, gave birth to healthy babies. I read one or two cases on SDK blog.

    4. Anon, a mentally ill patient that has been faithful with his meds can't just wake up one day and stop...U get? and him/her skipping a dose for a day or two won't make him/her want to kill you....U get?

And as an understanding person, you know what to do when ur partner starts skipping a dose; u'll just have to contact his/her doctor.

Hope you know some people develop this illness AFTER Marriage/childbirth (delivery) or will you opt out of the marriage cos ur sick hubby or wife will wake and kill you one day?

  34. it depends on the kind of issues and if the afflicted admits it and is trying to manage it.

    long storytime

i have a friend, ajebutter, gentleman, awon 'open door for you' 'give you flowers' type, upper middle class, as prfect as he presents himself, wife of his youth left him, he is, highly social but in his own words 'when he is high on his oowwiee he is high, but when he is low, its the lowest of low and he rather not see anyone or he will use terrible words on them that cant be taken back, ladies have fallen into depression cus of his mouth...nonetheless he has f..c.kd half of abuja babes cus of his charm and packaging and has now moved on to babes in the south east awon onitsha, enugu, abia babes. He feels he has a handle on his issue but truth is he is a drug&opiod addict. Suppliers know him in Victoria island wella

Another one, he cant even hide his erection on sighting a fine lady, he talks a lot, when his psychosis manifest, he talks with spittle pouring out of his mouth, he doesnt know personal space, insults a lot, dresses anyhow.can leave staff toilet without washing hands yet try to deep his hand in your food flask. The wife oh his youth left him with their kids, he insults her with malicious words. As nigeria na man's world na, he got a highly sought after job in a place far from his iguebe hometown. He displays his madness there, not paying attention in a meeting, randomly speaking to someone in a meeting nvironment when MD has the floor. las las one teenager that felt she has landed goldmine, got pregnant for him, she moved into his place and discovered the mental state of this man. Her eyes are gradually opening, but no one to turn to, or talk to. He can leave her in the housestarving while he randomly jumps trailer going anywhere. he can show up with a bloody nose all bcos of 'i no get change'. He nevr admits he has an issue and is certainy not treating it.

The 3rd one is a completeajebo, son of an equally ajebutter minister. He tells you straight away that he has a psychatric problem one of its effects is that he is always horny, as in constantly hard. married to oyibo for more than a decade, no kids, so he wants to try naija babes. I respect him the most bcos he knows he has an issue and is on medication.

i myself am not too ok sef. Started with my mothers harshness with me. i feel she hates me.
I know am not prfect But the differenc is that i know it and am working on it

  37. I know a man who had mental illness but recovered and was placed on drugs. His fiancee rejected him ooo. But today he's married to someone else with 3 kids and doing well for himself. All these people saying no never jam money. Did Sanwoolu not have mental illness? Is he not a governor today? I'm sure many of you saying no wouldn't mind being his 2nd or even 3rd wife. A lot of people will definitely suffer from worse illnesses in their lifetime. Mental illness is not so bad because it can be managed with medications. There are health conditions worse than being previously diagnosed of mental illness. Being bedridden and in a vegetative state or having spinal cord injury is far worse. Having one upper limb amputated is worse. Being blind or deaf and dumb is worse, cancer, etc. To each his own sha. As for me, there's nothing wrong with marrying such a person if she's a good person and managing her condition with medications. It was in the olden days that mental illness was such a big deal. Today so many terrible diseases have taken over mental illness.

    ReplyDelete
  38. There are situations people find themselves in marriage that are far worse than marrying someone that was previously mentally ill. I know a man whose wife has been in coma for 6 years. The suffering he passes through is not something to write home about. Abeg there's nothing wrong with marrying such a person if they're religious with their medications.

  39. I once dated a guy that in my mind,I think he has mental issues.
It's good to date someone that loves you more than you love him, yes. But this one,he was OBSESSED to a sickening state. I had to pick my running shoes. Even with all my plenty baggage, there are some people one has to reject abeg.

  41. I once dated one and one day he said, l will kill you and will not go to jail for it.
Because the state will protect me.
After that statement, l started carrying my bag, infact the way I left was natural,he begged me forever, and l didn't even tell him the reason l left.

  43. But do u know that Ted Turner is living with serious mental illness diagnosis & he on daily dosage/ medication of Lithium, one of the strongest anti psychotic medications. He's the CNN founder & a billionaire, former husband of Jane Fonda.
He does function well on daily basis & has not harmed himself or his family members & others so far.

Alma Powell (Gen. Collin Powell's wife) is also living with a serious mental illness diagnosis & on medication.

Kanye West & so many others who r very successful & highly achieving like that, who r functioning well daily with an enduring mental health problem.

I guess it depends on the individual, he/ she must be committed about taking their medications & also keep a healthy lifestyle to prevent any relapse episodes.
