Embattled EFCC Acting Chairman Magu Released On Bail From Police Custody

The embattled suspended acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Magu has been released on bail by the Presidential Panel investigating him for alleged graft.

Magu was released Wednesday following a formal application for his bail to the panel by his lawyer, Mr. Toyin Ojaomo, who confirmed his release to the press.

An appeal for bail on Tuesday sent to the Inspector-General of Police was turned down by the police chief, instead directing that the application be sent to the presidential panel headed by retired Justice Ayo Salami for consideration.
Mr. Magu was taken into custody by the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) on July 6, 2020, after he was arrested and brought before the presidential panel. He was subsequently suspended from office by President Muhammadu Buhari after reviewing the severity of the evidence tendered against him.

At least 12 directors including the executive secretary of the agency, Olukayode Olanikpekun, have been suspended from office as part of the probe of the agency.

  9. Well...he can't be detained indefinitely; that's the law. He can still attend the panel sittings from his home.
