Senator Ndume Tells Nigerian Govt To Stop Rehabilitating Ex-Boko Haram Members

The senator representing Borno south, Ali Ndume, has kicked against the reintegration of ex-Boko Haram fighters into the society.

The military had in 2016 launched Operation Safe Corridor, an initiative for the deradicalisation and rehabilitation of ex-Boko Haram fighters.

The aim of the operation, the military had also said, is to reintegrate repentant Boko Haram members into society.

About 600 ex-Boko Haram members completed a de-radicalisation, rehabilitation and reintegration (DRR) programme in July.
But while speaking on a BBC Hausa service programme, transcribed by TheCable.ng, Ndume asked the government to stop rehabilitating ex-insurgents because they would never repent.

“This government’s programme is unacceptable to our people. The right thing is to stop it, forthwith,” he said.

“Not that they even apologised to you, they apologised to the government with the thinking that government has failed and that is why they are being pampered,” he said.

“They are like Kharajites. Many among those released have since run away. They will never repent.

“The government should know what to do about them. But not re-introducing someone to you, who has killed your parent, or your relations.

“If there is sincerity of purpose in this, those in the IDP camps should be trained in various trades and vocation so that they could start life again.”

    1. Okay so i watched the interview of a Nigerian Soldier who is one of the best snipers and shooters in the army. He had to resign because while shooting one day. He heard the some Nigerian soldiers saying in hausa that he shoots too much they should kill him because he's killing the boko haram guys to much and they shot him. They thought he was dead but he escaped later with wounds. He said they killed his other friends that were snipers same way. He said either they deliberately don't want the insurgency to stop because of money they are making from it or they are the same team. Please if u know anyone in the army u better tell them to resign and take off. Tolu Arotile also dealt with the boko guys. She was an excellent combatant pilot and they couldn't get her on air.

      This is troubling.

Senator Ndume is correct, just like what the majority of the citizenry are saying.

  2. I agree with him. Like it's ok to be a terrorist and claim to have repented without paying for the crimes committed.

    1. Eka you should be more worried about how you can't go out your business in a foreign country without being shot for being black. That should be your major headache because there's more hope for those in Naija

Only in Christ is there repentance.
Those in the IDP camps are telling tales of rape and oppression by the
same military and hunger. And their tormentors are
    being paid to do more?

  11. I read this rehabilitating thing up yesterday, its actually a counter terrorism act, nigeria is not the only one country practising it,there are lots of other countries, and it's always modified to get better .it has shown a form of success in the past for Nigeria.it first began after the civil war .that's how the (3R's) started it worked to repair some damages done after the civil war for both the fighters and the victims. They also used it to reduce the attacks of the Nigerian delta militants.it also worked.more than 6000,niger militants dropped their guns to be rehabilitated, infact some where sent abroad with their fees fully paid and feeding allowance given to them .and the rest learnt a vocational trade.im writing this ,because , fine I'm angry that they are bring rehabilitated but the measure of success it has shown in the past is a reason to try it out . We can't just fight terrorism with guns we need other ways and it has been adopted by others countries to . There's no way of measuring the success of this but it's something.lets see if it will work, lets see if it will reduce terrorism ,has it reduced the the last two major incidents . sometimes killing them is not your ultimate way out .most of them surrendered, and like the 2000 Niger delta militants that surrender and cause of the works they saw in their live the remaining 4000 dropped their guns .let's hope pray and see if the same success will be recorded.

    God bless Nigeria.

    2. Malley, THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CIVIL WAR, NIGER DELTA MILITANTS and TERRORISTS.

REHABILITATION OF TERROSITS IS EVIL and GOD WILL AVENGE THE BLOOD OF THE VICTIMS OF BOKO HARAM❗❗❗

Terrorists are trained to kill unarmed human beings in their homesteads and communities especially the vulnerable.
'Civil' War, emphasis on CIVIL was not a deliberate act of terrorism.

Niger Delta militants fought against the exploitation of their people by the exploration of their oil and gas resources and subsequent damage to their lands and water bodies. They did not target and terrorize indigenes of their State and neighbouring States, displacing them from their home lands, raping, looting and razing.

THE HYPOCRISY OF THIS GOVERNMENT IS SICKENING❗❗❗

    3. @Malley..you're not smart.

No need wasting my precious time with you cos you're a lost cause, that's even if you're not one of them

    4. Anon I know there's a difference,i just wanted to see if that's where it stemmed up from.dante go and do something with your life , people like you make me sick .can't you see how other people replied .sue that might be true but looking at the bigger picture ,it's more to our advantage, cause how many can you kill ,or capture and point of correction to people not everyone is rehabilitated they have to be cleared criminally first.and there obviously corruption in the army but I'm not talking of corruption sue,im talking of why will the government of Nigeria and more than 15 other countries think that rehabilitation is the way.
