Comedienne Helen Paul Reportedly In The US To Become A Professor

Thespian, TV show host, and comedienne, Helen Paul, is currently taking a postdoctoral study in an undisclosed university in America.

Paul, The Nation reliably gathered, is on the verge of becoming a professor barely a year after emerging Nigeria’s first popular stand-up comedian to bag a Doctorate Degree.

Dr. Helen’s quest for education is obviously unstoppable as the ‘Jara’ co-host completed her Ph.D. programs in Theatre Arts from the University of Lagos in 2019.

A source close to the ‘Tatafo’ star said, “Yes, Helen Paul has been shuttling between Nigerian and the US for some months now. While studying to become a Professor, she is also working as a lecturer in one of the institutions in the US.

“She is really an inspiration to this generation because combining these academic feats with her comedy career in Nigeria is no child’s play.”

Helen Paul became popular after featuring on one of PSquare’s hit songs, ‘Story’ after which she launched herself on TV and got herself several film roles before landing a job as a co-host of Africa Magic popular lifestyle show, ‘Jara’.

    1. Congratulations to her. That means she has a lot of work done in the academic field, and also been teaching for long. Cos you don't study to become a proff. You teach and write papers published in your field of study,do thesis and so fort. But I applaud her go getter attitude.

    4. Nigeria and ignorance. A postdoctoral does not qualify you for professorship o. Why is it an undisclosed university. Postdoc is a thing of pride and nothing to hide so why is the university undisclosed. Anyway what is my own.

    5. No you don't....you study to become a doc (Phd) but been a Professor is an academic staff grade after of course paying your dues including substantial peer reviewed publications and making significant intellectual contribution to your area of expertise....

  5. Congrats to her on her academic success and journey. That right there is very inspiring and will see how many people will comment or gives her the kudos! Unfortunately, we live in a society these days that people feel more excited about shoes and bags and Instagram fake life than someone achieving such an academic success

    2. Start with free online courses. Choose courses related to your career, learn as much as you can, trust me it will be of help tomorrow. Use this very data to learn soft skills that will upgrade you and keep you busy for the main time, Collect your certificate if is free.

I was in your shoe before but have taken the bull by the horn by navigating into a new career in IT ( that is;Google Technical support proffessional certificate) through their financial aid, and also studying other free courses related to it. By the grace of God I will surely get a good job by next year and my story will continue from their. Please put your all when studying, I pray you will tell your success story here too. CHEERS!!!

    3. Anon, your being alive is enough to be grateful for. It means God is not done with you. Don't allow the devil to use your mind as a footstool. Focus on your haves rather than your have nots, if you can afford data, there are a myriad of free online courses, sign up for a few and get busy...

You are a failure because you think and feel like one. Haven't you heard of law of attraction? You are what you think! Start focusing your energy on what you want to achieve, think positive and pray to God to create an opportunity for that to happen for you and when such opportunity comes, grab it with full gusto, because there might not be a repeat. Imbibe the attitude of gratitude and see how things would change for you.

  21. Was it Helen herself who said she was studying to become a proffesor or association of reliable sources?

  22. Anon 16:41, thanks! Many Nigerians do not know that their PHDs in Nigeria can only earn first degree credits in America. They need to literarily “go back”. We had friends who tried to migrate with their PHDs from the older more known universities who ended up in the U.K. because America will test you even with a Canadian degree! Going to study for a post doc is probably the truth of the story.

She cannot go and teach what she does not know. Theater arts or other subjects are localized in curriculum and content. Theater arts in America is different from changing your voice to tell the same joke over and over in a country where mediocrity is hailed and celebrated. Some other nations won’t celebrate mediocrity with us! No offense. I agree she is hard working and not one of those purchasing degrees up and down anyhow in Nigeria but to become a Prof here you need to study here at some point, publish in peer reviewed recognized journals in your field and conduct serious research. She could be doing adjunct (equivalent of a contract part time bank employee) or Teaching Assistant while doing her post doc but Professor in America just like that? Only Soyinka, Achebe, Akin Euba and many who published from here in peer reviewed journals in those glory days have accomplished the feat and Soyinka’s work made up for his lack of a PhD especially as a Nobel laureate winner in literature.

Cellphone/laptop grammar errors aside, we are breeding a generation of uneducated literates in Nigeria whose only expertise seems to be butt enhancement, photoshop to look fair and 21,engage in runs and unnecessary YouTube drama! You just need to hear some speak and you begin to wonder what the schools are now teaching! Some can’t even fill a simple immigration form or construct a correct sentence but own YouTube channels! Helen Paul, not correcting a wrong impression is allowing falsehood to take root. It does no good!

    2. I think the line '...studying to become a professor' was wrongly reported.

I agree with you 7:12. There are precepts that must be duly followed to attain academic feet, either here or abroad.

Congrats to her all the same.
