According to the governors, the executive order Buhari signed had pushed the Federal Government’s responsibility of funding both the capital and recurrent expenditures of the state high courts, Sharia Court of Appeal and the Customary Court of Appeal, to the state governments.
The governors are also arguing that except paying the salaries of judicial officers of the above-mentioned courts, Buhari had since 5th May 2009, abandoned his responsibility of funding the capital and recurrent expenditure of the respective courts.

ReplyDeleteIt is a Constitutional dispute between all the states (including "aboki" states) and the Fed. Govt. It is a good thing as it will further clarify our laws.

I personally don't see anything wrong with this. In my state, Cross River, the governor is openly interfering and playing politics with the appointment of the state Chief Judge while also allegedly in an unholy alliance with a Federal High court judge. I am sure the same must be true of many states so let them also pick up the tab.
