Adventures Of Oko Ashawo The Uber Driver -46

It is only God that can give me the strength to emotionally handle the things one sees on this Job and give me wisdom to understand that not all questions have answers..........

Last weekend, I travelled down to one of the western states to pick up the wife of my client. Being a Consultant Gastroenterologist, he had just finished a procedure and he asked us to drive straight to his house since he would be home in less than 20 minutes because the hospital he works with is not far off.

He arrived after an hour and apologized for keeping us waiting. The wife was angry that he kept her waiting outside when she could have easily gone to the hospital to collect the house keys. He then took his time to explain what delayed him.

According to the doctor, as he was about leaving the hospital, he was called back to mediate in a matter. The young man in his early twenties he had just carried out a procedure on molested the nurse attending to him.

This is a guy in end-stage liver cirrhosis; bleeding and vomiting blood due to excessive alcohol intake that has severely damaged his liver. His situation is so bad that he looks much older like someone in his thirties and only a miracle would turn things around.

While the nurse was attending to him, he slapped her bumbum and told her she is very sexy and they should arrange to get down later that night. The nurse in turn was so furious and gave him a stern warning never to repeat such again. Things degenerated a bit and he had to be called back to wade into the issue.

Amazingly, the father of the sick guy who is a Pastor was also around in the hospital, ministering to sick people and counselling them. This made me really sad. So many questions ran through my mind. Could it be an attack of the devil? Was the father too busy with church work ministering to others and taking
care of their needs at the expense of his own family?

Does he have a mother? What about his other siblings? Is he the black sheep of the family? Indeed, there are more questions than answers …

*Why are you blaming his parents for how he turned out?should we blame your parents also that you turned out an Uber driver when your mates are Doctors?Nobody prays to have children who turn out bad......

When you marry, please sieve your sperm and ask only the good ones to swim into the uterus...hissss.
May God save that young man.

    4. Really demeaning. In our Nigeria of today, Medical doctors are also Uber drivers. Even Lawyers, engineers. You name them. That's why we are asking for a better Nigeria. #restructureNigeriaNow

    5. I also think the comment is not good taste at all. There is dignity in labour. An uber driver is not a criminal is he?

    6. Stella, that's a very disrespectful statement please! His comment has nothing to do with his profession. There's dignity in labour!!!
Mrs E, God bless you for your comment. If only Stella knows some people are into e-hailing services for leisure too.

  2. Damn..🤒🤒

Humans will be judged on their own merit and according to their works on earth..

    No excuse at all..

Hence the reason I don't blame my parents for anything. I owe nobody anything except for myself.

I'm not entitled to them either, I wish I could have more, but being less doesn't make me a more or less lesser being..

    ❤🤗

  3. Being an uber driver is not something to be ashamed of, you can't use it to equate the situation of this young boy. Or would you have prefferd oko ashawo to join bad gangs since he could not be a medical Doctor. Mind you some drivers makes more money in this country more than Doctors.

Legit is bae no matter the type of work

    3. Stellakoko, calm down. You were a little bit hard on the Oki Ashwo guy. He was just asking a general question.

And yes, some parents contribute directly and indirectly to what's happening to their children...

Uber driving is a legit business....

You just kicked a man who's on the floor.

    Thumbs down!

He may be a lawyer who's trying to make ends meet by running around as a cabbie. It's a difficult terrain in Nigeria now.

    1. I see nothing wrong in being a taxi driver, even a vulcanizer as long as you make money honestly. See some wealthy people in our society who kill others to make money nko? Oko ashawo, I don't like this your name. Anyway, sometimes the parents do everything right yet things end up going wrong and vice versa. I think that is what Stella was trying to say. I think how a person turns out in life could be a mixture of many things including nature, nurture and destiny. Life is largely a mystery.

  6. An average Uber driver makes 160k to 300k monthly so yes he could be earning more than some drivers and some people would rather do that than be a doctor. That was a low blow Stella and totally uncalled for.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Stella your comparison is not quite accurate here, his source of earning a living has nothing to do with his upbringing, character and the way he treats other people.
Even though the parents of the sick molester are not to be blamed for how he turned out, there are still doctors and other professionals who have terrible behaviour.
You can be an Uber driver with a honourable name and character.

  10. Stella that was too harsh, haba, being an Uber driver is a legitimate means to make money naw

  11. Stella your comment seems out of place to me. He said it was just a wonder; he isnt pointing any accusing fingers besides he said he also thought about other possibilities of the guy being the black sheep of the family and all. There is also nothing wrong with being an uber driver, it is an honest job that pays the bills and some of them earn better monthly than some people working in some more formal sectors. Please let us mind our words so we don't make people feel inferior for nothing. Little things can trigger mental health issues even when to us we didn't think it that far and being an uber driver and being a complete nusiance should not be in the same sentence and it was unfair for you to reply that way in my humble opinion.

  12. Nice response from Stella, when the children gets to a certain age,you will discover that the task of parenting becomes increasingly stressful, children are exposed to all sorts everyday, technology is taking over and shaping peoples lives rapidly, some children are influenced by their peers,if a child behaves badly,it does not necessarily mean the parents failed at their responsibility,it takes the grace of God,even if both parents are self-employed and have enough time for the children,a child that will be good will be good and the one that will be a torn in the flesh will be,Oko ashawo is behaving like my daughters Chemistry Teacher, always sending insults to parents, and my hubby encouraged my daughter and told her he's probably frustrated in life and that he should have done better with his career instead of raining insults on parents,I gave my parents headache cos I was very stubborn, but look how good I turned.
As some children continue to go haywire, parents are being blamed for their children's behavior, parents also blame themselves thinking if they had done things some certain way,the child would be better, seeing how some of our parents put in their best to raise us and how things turned out in future I choose not to blame any parent, after shouting I sit my teen daughters and advice them, hoping for the best as they grow by grace of God.

  13. Haba! Would rather he becomes an armed robber or thief? Being a cab driver is a legit work and there is no shame in legit work. There are so many lawyers and doctors struggling to make ends meet as well. Professional job is not an automatic pass to success. May God bless everyone’s hustle. Oko ashewo abeg no mind the comment.

  17. Stella this harshness no good na. The guy is dying and all he can think is slapping a woman's butt and asking for sex instead of praying to the creator for healing or having a rethink of how he spent his life in an unwholesome fashion and making peace with his family and God in case of demise. You cannot compare oko aahawo and the guy in any circumstance. There are stages in life and is left for us to learn and make judicious use of such time.

  18. He didn’t blame the parents, he just asked valid questions. Increasingly many parents are removed from their kids life, in the pursuit of a lot of things, a lot of ‘important things’. If you miss being in children’s lives in their formative years, anything you see, you take. It’s a very valid rhetorical question and didn’t deserve that comeback.

    2. Exactly @ Mystic. My sister is even kind of removed from her children's lives cos she's pursuing money and they are misbehaving. Parents need to be 101% in the lives of their children in their formative stage.

  21. There she goes again . Uber driving doesn't demean anyone. Most the hailing drivers are well read. It's not like they wanted to be drivers . They are what they are today because there are no jobs. Everybody can't be doctors, there are doctors who don't have jobs. Outside the doctors who work in teaching hospitals, state specialist hospital and the few good private hospitals, others are poorly paid. Those who work in teaching hospitals and state specialist hospitals are over worked. Local government councillors earn alot better than doctors in our federation. Uber drivers earn better than some university lecturers and most civil servants.

  22. Jesus Christ, Stella!🤭🤭🤭

Anyway I understand the anger, people are always quick to point accusatory fingers at the parents when a child turns out to be a delinquent, even when the parents did their best and gave the said child every resource to be a good and upright human being.

I'm sure we have all seen cases where in a family, all the kids are good and respectable people but there is that one kid that's just errant. Does that mean the parents raised their virtuous kids well but abandoned the badly-behaved one?

Like i always say, na God dey raise pikin. Chi na'azu nwa. You can only do your best as a human being but we should always pray to God to please make our kids have sense and give them a functioning frontal lobe lol.

    1. If you read the article without bias as usual, you won't type this. Where did he accuse the parents. It is not a most to read his article. Leave this man alone.

    2. "Does he have a mother?"
"Was the father too busy with church work ministering to others and taking care of their needs at the expense of his own family?"

He might not have explicitly stated it but he sure implied it by the questions he raised; referring to his parents at all and questioning how involved they were in his life/upbringing beckons to that.

I don't agree with Stella knocking down your hustle, that was mean AF but i understand the angle she's coming from. All I wanted to do was just to debunk the myth that egregious children had horrible parents that failed to raise them well. That's it.

By the way, i no hold oko ashawo lmao neither did i condemn him in any way.

  31. Some children of some pastors tend to be rebels because their parents often are too rigid and way too extreme in neglecting their children. And also these children see the hypocrisy the parents have.

  32. Mrs. Korkus, I can see you still reason like a naija. Not everyone likes to be a doctor. My instructor is a nurse with hers masters and her husband is a mechanic. They love themselves. The Uber driver might even be richer than a blogger. He might even be the CEO of twitter. He could be driving an uber because he loves driving.

  34. Please don’t insult Stella. Oko ashewo always has the most to say about his clients and their patrons. He uses the most demanding words to describe the women who prostitute themselves.
