The Adventures Of Oko Ashawo The Uber Driver - 48

Something shocking happened to me on Monday and my heart stood in my mouth ready to jump out!!!

It was an uneventful day and I spent most of the day at the mechanic workshop doing some repairs on my car.

I sulked over the amount that I spent on repairs and decided to go home since I wasn’t feeling too well. it was 7pm and restriction of movement starts by 8pm. It was dark already when I got to the junction that leads to my house and I stopped to buy bread and some groceries from a shop there. As I stepped back into the car to drive home, I saw some people running towards me led by a lady.

I didn’t think too much of it and all I wanted was to quickly get home, eat and rest my head. The next thing that happened shocked me to my marrows. The lady stopped in front of my car, pointed at me and said that I am the one.

 I was confused.

People had started gathering around my car and I was asked to come out. All the things I had done wrong in my life started appearing to me in a flash.

I wondered who I had offended. One of the things that came to my mind also was that the troublesome girl I refused to have a relationship with was out to get back at me. I took a good look at the girl that pointed at me and could not recognize her at all. The people that had gathered were talking in loud tones and I could not really decipher what they were saying.

One guy asked the girl if she was sure I am the one and she answered in the affirmative. Haaaa… mogbe.

As one of the guys made to drag me out of the car, I told them to relax, calm down and explain what was going on to me cos i was very confused. I was just praying to God to give me the wisdom to handle the situation and kept telling myself to calm down because I was really agitated and my heart was already in my mouth.

The lady then said that I am the one that hit her car a few minutes back and I didn’t have the courtesy to wait to look at the damage and seek a peaceful resolution. Immediately, I heaved a sigh of relief, calmed down and told them I have not had any such encounter that evening and asked them to inspect my car if it looked like one that had just been involved in an accident.

There was palpable confusion in the air as my car was checked and there was nothing to indicate that I just hit another car. According to the people that came with the lady, the car that hit hers also has his headlights broken because of the impact but mine was intact so it couldn’t be me. The lady bit her finger in despair and put her hand on her head. I quietly slid into my car and drove off with my heart still beating very fast.

I couldn’t help but thank God for his deliverance that night. More so, I didn’t feel unwell again wondering where the sudden burst of strength came from. Na so dem for pour accusation for person head on top wetin he no do.

Now, I can now relate with how people feel when they are accused wrongly especially those in prison.

*side eyes*

*Na this small thing na em be the shocking thing wey happen?Hissssss.....I for like talk say dem for rough handle you small but if i talk now you will get a lot of supporters so make i quiet......

  5. It wasn't what he was accused of that was shocking. Its that a total stranger came out of nowhere, pointed at him and said he is the one. That in itself is scary considering the level of jungle justice that takes place on this country.

What if he was beaten up?

Something similar happened to my friend 2years ago.
We went to the market and she wanted buying ok jeans, immidiatetly she bent over to pick one, a lady tapped her and said 'give me my 400 naira', my friend was shocked because she had only one thousand naira note on her.
This lady kept insisting that my friend stole her money, this was a very busy market o..so I then confronted the lady to please keep shut that my friend is not a thief, as a matter of fact we just got there.
We were still exchanging words then suddenly the guy selling the clothes said "but madam I never give u ur change yet na" , she was ashamed and started begging me and my friend for forgiveness.
I was really upset, that market is full of thugs, wat if they had beaten up my friend and stripped her naked because of 400naira?
What if the seller didn't speak up?
A lot of what ifs.. Stella I've never been that scared in my entire life 🤦‍♀️

Wow Blunty, that’s scary. Thank God that’s where it ended. I can’t understand looking someone dead in the eye and accusing them falsely...that’s a different level of cold.

Poster, thank God nothing bad happened to you because the mob could have reacted and then asked questions later. Scary.

      @ Stella, 😆😆😆🤣🤣🤣😆😆😆. You’re funny.

Oko ashewo thank God for you, if one has not been in such situation, one might not really understand why he felt that way, considering the way jungle Justice is being carried out in naija.

OA,thank God for your life,na so you for use carry wetin you no know. Anything I see victims of jungle justice,my heart breaks imagining that some of them might have just been unlucky and innocent. Like the Aluu 4 boys( Tekena,Ugonna,Lloyd and chiadika...continue to rest in peace boys). It is well with Nigerians.
