Mrs Dee's Corner -The Generation Of Women That Do not Like Tying Wrapper

So much has changed from the days of our mothers when tying wrappers for important occasions was the rave to now where it is almost fizzling out and only a handful fancy it.

Many of us still remember watching our mothers dress up in their Hollandaise, brocade,Georges, tie and dye and expensive lace fabrics.

We saw the extreme care and attention with which they tended to their wrappers; it was not washed often and woe would betide the ignorant child who used detergent instead of tablet soap to wash it for them.

It was the push-gift that husbands and excited new fathers used to express their gratitude, love and care to their wives for the new addition of a child to the family. The number of wrappers a wife and mother had was commensurate to the measurement of how caring and loving her husband was.

Women competed amongst themselves on who had the most wrappers, the most beautiful and expensive ones.

My mum's eagerness to teach me how to properly tie one was met with amusement and lack of interest. As far as I was concerned, there were far more beautiful fabrics that took less time and effort to wear and I knew I did not have the patience to spread my legs wide enough to aid for free movement while walking...

failure to adhere to the rule would make one look like a fowl hopping from place to place. Expertise was also required to adequately ensure that both sides of the wrapper was equally tied to avoid one edge of the wrapper looking lopsided and crumpled.

I also knew I couldn't bear the heaviness of tying two wrappers at once, which is famous among the Igbo tribe.

Women born from the 80's and upwards have deviated from the path of wrapper tying. They have wholly embraced sewing their Ankara materials and other traditional fabrics into beautiful and easy to wear styles. Some of our mothers have also joined the band wagon by transforming their prized wrappers into trendy outfits and captivating styles.

It's too much fashion stress to look heavy and feel sweaty in these wrappers when you can still achieve the same result in a less complex way.

    3. For whatever reason, wrappers are now expensive.
    4. In the past, being thick was a sign of healthy living. Today, its called unhealthy. Thus, if you're slim like me with no back asset and tie wrapper, you'll end up looking like a confused scarecrow

  3. Tying wrapper is as archaic as plaiting hair with thread. Using black eye liner on the brows and lipsπŸ˜ƒ

  5. Nice one Mrs. Dee. Those were the times when Nigerian women dressed well, were not ashamed of their cultural attires. Ankara factories were booming in the North and cotton plantations feeding the populace.
So why don't ladies like to tie wrappers these days? They want to display their buttocks and breasts. These are the beautiful private parts that wrappers will conceal.
In the 70s and Early 80s, Nigerians did not like to live abroad in the western world or worship western values. But today, anything abroad is good. People loathe their own values and consider them archaic. Hardly will you see a girl dressed up these days to go out without exposing her breasts, buttocks or both. Hardly!

  9. Tying wrapper is one of the hardest things ever, omg! No matter how i stretch my legs as far as the east is from the west, i still walk uncomfortably.

One day i tied the back of women's guild wrapper to church🀣🀣🀣🀣🀣, it was one mama like that called my attention to it, i turned it and she asked me to stretch my legs and tied it well, with the edges being the same, i don't know how they do that stuff.

I look soooooo good on wrapper, it gives me this madam lookπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚, too bad i can't tie it.

Another herculean task is how to tie gele or even wrap my head with another wrapper or scarf, as usual i carry my gele or head wrap to church and beg someone to help me tie it before enteringπŸ˜€.

Tying wrapper is not my forte , I've resolved to making a skirt and then id tie the upper one .
Fairly this place im marrying into ... id be ditching my wrapper as skirts is more of their culture .

As for gele , id not even bother

  10. My mum is a prof when it comes to tying wrappers.

  11. As a kid I really admired the way Igbo ladies tied the up and down George wrappers,it really added grace to their way of walking and brought the perfect shape

  12. Very true.
My mom sews her wrappers to gowns and skirt and blouse, she brought them all out of the box and said they are all wasting, whats the need buying new ones, its not like her children are interested in tying wrapper.
It same with mothers and young ladies of these days.
These wrappers are really expensive and they are original.
Modern life brought about beautiful gown styles you can easily do rather than stressing to tie wrapper.
My mom used to gist us about how she used to wear lace up and down to party, as in parties like dinners, the usual night parties that we wear sexy stuffs like skimpy gowns. Very funny

  18. Years back after i had my first child, i found out that i had outgrown my pre pregnancy clothes. One day i had need to go out so i convinced myself that as a Madam, i should tie my two wrapper and go out. I went out feeling very cool with myself until i discovered the inner wrapper had somehow loosened and was trailing beside me like a side bridal train. I was at Rumuola junction, a very busy part of Port Harcourt. I was confused, slowly trailed into a nearby shop, struggled and struggled until i decided to just tie one like buba wrapper and move. It still kept on loosening and i moved it to my chest- You know like those village women in movies. Of course i cancelled all movement for the day. Ever since then i have not summoned courage to try tying double wrapper again.

Women still tie wrappers till date, the culture of tying of wrappers is not outdated.there is this girl friend of mine who always tie wrappers when she was single to an occassion even till date that she's married. she's not a village girl ooo. she usually tie hollandaise and it always looks good on her cos it gives her that madam look. women still tie wrappers just that some have changed from using ankara materials to lace materials and some fancy expensive materials.

  24. I love tying wrapper especially with my well designed blouse and purse plus gele. The feeling for me is beautiful. My mom is late and her expensive hollandaise are still appreciated by me!
I still wear Ankara but not to certain functions.

If you want to look sassy in wrapper
Make sure your stylish is a bad ass in blouse making!
    My opinion
