Aso ebi is a Nigerian term that refers to Uniform to be worn for a particular event ranging from weddings,to burials to naming ceremonies to birthdays....You name it!!!

Some aso-ebis are cheap and some are very expensive and it is assumed that if the aso ebi is expensive then the gifts to be given at the event will be worth the money spent in buying the aso-ebi...

Sometimes guests are disappointed and sometimes not....

Sometimes guests pay for the aso ebi and the event does not hold....

What is your aso ebi experience/story?

Some people have a roomful of aso ebi's that they need to gift out..Are you n this table?gist us how this came about!!!

    2. We paid £120 for wedding asoebi in 2016 and my friend saw the same fabric two months after at £70. That was it for me. Since then, my motto is: if you don’t invite me because I don’t buy, no wahala, it means less dollars to spray you.

    3. Toilet brush? That has to be the most insulting gift I have ever heard of.

  5. I am not a fan of asoebi
But I have bought asoebi for some weddings and just one burial.
The cost of some asoebi are mostly inflated to gain extra profit.
I paid 25k for 4yards asoebi lace and gele the highest I have spent on asoebi, did it for a good childhood friend...
I don't think I will be buying any asoebi soon... I will attend weddings with English wears or native wears I already have.

  6. A friend called me and said I will do asoebi for her. I accepted oh.

The price of the lace and Ankara is 20k and the trad is next month. Lol

The good thing is I design, so I will be the one to make my dress. What about others that will give it to their designer nko, they will have to spend more than that.

I did asoebi last year eh and I got tired because after the wedding, I won't wear the dress again. Since I designer I have alot of dress that I wore once and some still in my box without touching.

God knows, I won't stress anybody when I will do mine.

  7. For me, it depends on my relationship with the person and how much the also ebi costs. I no dey do pass my power, instead I buy you a gift I can afford, go to the party eat and dance.

  9. Asoebi stories can publish a book hehe! I hate over priced asoebi! Instead of focusing on their marriage and how to enjoy the journey the bride and her relatives focus on how to make money via asoebi! Well for my wedding I no do asoebi it was an small close knit ceremony and I no send anyone on what to wear. Asoebi puts a lot of pressure on friends and family, A friend in Sweden paid for asoebi for a friends dad's burial since March this year, asoebi she no see,her money she no see even the burial she no attend because of COVID-19. Now she is angry at her friend and they nearly fought as she wants her money back! I told her how can you be in Sweden and pay for asoebi for a burial you know you will not attend? Who does that?🙄

  10. The highest I've paid for aso ebi in recent times is 2k for a cap material. Men no get aso ebi issues like that. The only times I've spent much more was for family occasions that required buying same clothes🤭

  11. I am not a fan of aso ebi. When I got married I didn't pick aso ebi because I was not ready to be stressed out. The few times I bought asoebi paid off. How can one pay 18k for lace and you are given plastic spoon for scooping eba as souvenir. Haba

  12. I don't have any aso ebi stories. I won't wear your aso ebi.
Nothing mandates me to wear a uniform if I am coming to your event, if I don't want to.
It is a free world, let the freedom remain. 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

  13. Never paid for asoebi but I hate the fact that it puts people under unnecessary pressure and financial strain. I’m not doing any asoebi fad for my own wedding, I’d probably just show you the material and tell you to buy it yourself or by Gods grace, give out the asoebi for free. And of course it’d only be for close friends which I don’t even have much of.

  14. I'm not stressing anyone on my day. It'll be an all white wedding ceremony. Just buy your pretty white dress and show up. Only our immediate family will wear a different shade of white with enough details. Even decor sef will be white.

Asoebi wahala is plenty. Have one in December and I'm yet to even decide if I'm getting the material. The bride is on my case. Wetin to do with money plenty. Still thinking of what to answer her but I must attend the wedding. Asoebi or not.

  15. I have a burial party today, but I am not going because I am unable to sew my clothes and the aso ebi price is okay....

  16. Aso ebi is not a Nigerian term please. Aso ebi is a Yoruba term, give credit to where credit is due when it comes to peoples cultures.

    2. Peoples cultures are not unnecessary things, they have meaning and they last for centuries. If you don't have culture then shut up and face your front before they shut it for you!

    3. Please come and shut my mouth up. So yorubas are no longer Nigerians. In a bid to make sense you ended up being foolish. Cultures and languages are borrowed and evolve with time. Senseless goat.

  17. I have never been a fan of aso ebi. During my wedding, the only aso ebi was worn by asi ebi girls and our families insisted on wearing theirs. every other person just got our colours or wore what they had. I don't think I will ever wear aso ebi unless someone is buying for me

  18. In 2016, a colleague sold her aso ebi for 15k- 4yards of lace with gele, some weeks to the occasion I saw same fabric at Eko for 8k, 5yards...

  19. Hmmmm! Plenty aso ebi stories that I can't even type all..did aso ebi of 27k in 2017 and all for the marriage to pack up after 2yrs😑😑 one of my old school mate own was scheduled for April but Rona happened and the amount is 35k I just told her I don't have that type of money abeg!

The only aso ebi I have bought this year is ankara of my neighbor for 6k which I believe it won't be more than 4-4,500k in the market oh! Rona happened too and I don't even know if they will proceed with the wedding cos of their constant fight, it's on hold for now

  20. The highest I've paid for aso ebi was 18k, and it was in Lagos. The gifts were a carton of ceramic plates and pressure pots. I enjoyed myself and if weddings are like that i wouldn't mind paying more on aso ebi. It was the first time i attended a wedding in Lagos. Lagos is really a fun place to be owambe

  21. If I remember the asoebi's I bought and tailors the menace, vex go dey catch me. If there is any wedding to attend na English wears get me.

  22. I bought Aso Ebi late last year for a burial that was to hold in March which was postponed because of Coro. After the lockdown, I called my friend to know when they will be doing the party as party food was hungrying me and wanted to enjoy before I will be too heavy to move around as I was pregnant.

I delivered in July. Sometimes last week, I sewed the clothes and sold it off. Party finish.

  23. I use to love aso ebi. I buy and attend but not anymore. My wedding will not have any asoebi on the list.Come with what you have.

  25. I guess the whole ideal of aso ebi was just for the families of the celebrants but Nigerian changed the culture to friends and enemies. I don't really like the ideal of putting unnecessary pressure on people that want to honour you.

They have even turned it into a business making ventures, exploiting people up and down.
Many people have also stopped the ideal of giving gifts because they feel cheated must times.

I didn't do any aso ebi when I did my wedding. Wear what you have, your presence is enough for me.

I still buy aso ebi but na the cheap ones, anything above 5k I no dey buy.
But I think I will stop buying jare.No time to be wasting money on unnecessary things. You don't have to force me to buy cloth I didn't budget for.

  26. AL Ashebi I've done, the materials where given to me. I only pay for the sewing...

Last December, I was the maid of honor for my friend. She bought the material and sew it for me, I only sew and tested the material when I got to the city where the wedding is supposed to take place.
During my own time, I won't be having an Ashebi if I don't have money to buy materials for my friends.

  27. I have stopped buying ashoebi. The quality of some of the fabrics are low grade. You wash it once and that is the end.

  28. I don't like the stress associated with coordinating Aso-ebi because I dislike hassling people for money. I just bought and shared for my train. Gave out the colours for others to buy themselves.

    No stress Biko

  29. I have never bought aso ebi above #5,000.00. The ones I buy, if I know I was exploited, no gift for the person be that
