Chairman of Shasha Traders Association Says He Will Not Return There After Over N20 Million Loss

The Chairman of Shasha Traders Association (STA), Alhaji Usman Nyako, on Tuesday said he lost more than N20 million to the crisis in the Shasha market in the Akinyele Local Government Area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The crisis, which occurred in the Shasha market last Thursday, led to loss of lives and property.

Nyako, who has been the chairman of the market for three years, said even if the crisis is resolved, he will not return to the Shasha market again because of what he experienced.

The businessman, who deals in tomatoes, said the day the crisis started, he had made over N10 million in his shop.

He added that his house, cars and trucks were set ablaze.

Nyako, who said he left his house with only one piece of clothing, commended the Kano State government for donating N100,000 to each of the about 200 indigenes of the state affected by the crisis.

He told sahara reporters, "I am not going back to that place again. Many people were killed in my presence. I lost my house, money, and even cars and trucks. As the chairman, I can only blame the crisis on the insincerity of some of our people."

He urged the government at all levels to come to the rescue of the victims, saying many have been displaced.

  1. A regular taxi driver has been traumatized since last week and has not gone to work.

Last Friday, on his way from Akinyele local government area to Ojoo, soldiers stopped him and his passengers and ordered him to carry dead bodies.
They didn't accompany him and told him to just take the bodies away from there since so many littered everywhere.
His passengers helped him dispose off the bodies along the highway and he went straight to the car wash. Eventually, he had to lie at the car wash that he just delivered slaughtered cow from the abbatoir.

The killings are under reported and as I type, the 3 Northern Governors are still in Ibadan. Let me stop here for now

  2. Una never see anything. Now they know what southerners have been going through. The idiots are now visiting to discuss when they cannot control their rabid dogs known as herdsmen they think people will just sit and be tolerating their cow shit. these stupid big men and governors are among those who own the cattle these herdsmen graze around. you arm them with AK47s they now use to kidnap and kill yet you dont want to caution them. they have also been infiltrated with so many mercenaries from Niger and co yet you turn a blind eye to their atrocities. many of these herdsmen are no longer the innocent ones we knew growing up so it is time to limit them to proper ranching so you can curtail theuir excesses.. enough is enough

  3. This is so sad. Rather than kill each order, let us go our separate ways peacefully. All this wahala is not worth it.

  4. Am not a prophet of doom o but with the happening in Nigeria very soon this people will be kidnapping people from house to house or they will storm a school in the south west, the rate with which sophisticated weapons is pouring into the south west is too much. Nigeria is a waiting distster unless something is done fast. Mercenary from Niger Republic are everywhere.
