  2. Ha!
We sha can play blame game in this country.
If the producers are silently implying that only fair girls wil be used, thn its a big shame to them.

Then too, these girls are adults for crying out loud!

  3. Very dark actresses;
    Mercy Johnson
    Ini Edo
    Genevieve Nnaji
    Lupita

    Black Models
    Oluchi Onweagba
    Agbani Darego

Someone can help me edit to add more
to this list. I don't mean those ladies that have compromised their
    integrity in the industries.

    1. She has a point.
Have you noticed that all the Nigerians you mentioned are at least 20 years in the industry? They are not upcommers na, struggling for a place in the industry.

For every dark skin actress that you struggle to remember such as Funke Akindele, Eniola Badmus, Osifo that already fixed in stereotyped characters, there are at least 100 oyoyo 'actresses' with ghastly white, badly bleached, well bleached or naturally fair skin tones.

The word actor/actress is one of the most abused words in Nigeria. It's almost without meaning as most of them are without skill.

      Destiny Etiko
      Bolaji Ogunmola
      Ronke Odusanya

A person with true talent won't be stopped by skin color. There are talented fair skinned actresses as well, so we can't just generalise.

    3. Also in the entertainment industry:
      - Tiwa Savage
      - Seyi Shay

    4. 12:24 read my comment again slowly. Very slowly. With suitable pauses in between.

    5. There is nothing to read slowly there. Neither Destiny nor Bolaji is "at least 20 years in the industry".

      Btw, it is upcomer.

Clearly I mentioned Osifo (Linda) who hasnt spent 20 years in the industry.

I strongly suggest you ask someone to translate to you in your native dialect as I cannot help you any further.

      * @upcommer Thank you so much for removing the extra 'm'.

    7. I didn't remove the extra m, YOU spelt it wrongly.

Back to the topic, anon 10.49 has said all there needs to be said, so read that specific comment again, very very slowly.

  5. My dear charity , it's not just happening in Nollywood o ,it's all over Nigeria yet they are the ones that shout black don't crack most. You will see some vacancies for front desk, receptionist, customer care ,brand ambassadors and the criteria will be " fair girls only" . Why won't they bleach!

    1. Lol. I remember when I wanted to apply for a telecoms customer care work. They told me they prefer recruiting fair girls. That my passport photograph should be very fine so that they can call me for interview. Seems times have changed now.

    2. This is really sad. Which way Nigeria/Africa?

  6. But do producers need to use an upgraded camera before they can capture the beauty in a dark skinned actress? This problem is beyond the producers, majority of people have programed their minds that black skin is not as attractive as light skin.

    1. They actually say so. Even in photography they add a little lightening to the picture if a dark person compared to a light person. Pls go and watch Skin by Beverly Naya you will understand.

    2. Oh I see. Maybe that's why those Big Brother cameras were making the dark girls look like malnourished househelps.
See how Tolani was looking like those girls that sell agbo jedi at Amuwo park on BBN. See how nice she looks now. Im sure they are using those NTA cameras.

  8. Destiny etiko is not light skinned, yet she's the nest big thing in asaba, whether dark or fair, every actress should have a good glowing skin, across the globe actresses and actors are known to invest heavily on their skin to look good on camera.

  11. This is so true! I was having lunch one day with my friends at kilimanjaro maitama one time. I was approached by a big Oga at Zenith bank then to work as a marketer he said he liked my skin tone we talked at length but I never accepted the job because I can't kill myself with the unrealistic targets they are given to meet up with. I sha turned him down! The pressure to be fair is too much employers, advertising, producers, air hostesses the list is endless if you go the Instagram the people selling organic creams will make you fear! I bought one the whitening set for 45k all na scam I threw the cream away nothing spectacular about it all your veins and cottage cheese go just dey show like video.

  12. This one just wants to trend. Chocolate and brown skin na him dey reign.

  13. Its happening in almost every sector. GRA branch of genesis in port Harcourt, one of the criteria for being a waitress is that you must be fair.

  14. She's right to an extent but lots of nollywood actresses are dark in complexion. The likes of;
    Chizzy Alichi
    Luchy Donald
    Chinonso Arubayi
    Chacha Eke
    Yvonne Jegede
    Jackie Appiah
    Christabel Ekeh

They plenty sef wey never bleach

      None.

How many of them are B list?

      None.

      I rest my case.

    3. 18.56 stop changing the topic. The discussion is not about A list, if Nnaji Charity is truly talented, her skin color won't stop her. Phew!

  15. Don't know what she's on about but the most successful actresses in Nollywood are dark skinned. Dark skinned beauties are generally more successful in the Nigerian entertainment industry. It all boils down to the person's talent, determination and grace too, bleaching and skin tones can't do nothing for an incompetent person.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Unfortunately people dont comprehend. Nobody is asking about the history of who is successful and who is not.
We are referring to what producers are demanding now.

    ReplyDelete

    1. What she is claiming is not new, it's not about producers demanding it NOW. Evidence shows that talented black skinned women have managed to excel despite it.

  17. In the next few years, they will say it’s producers or people that made them do big nya.sh. Conveniently ignoring the fact that they do all these things to be finer/better than the next woman.

Women need to start taking responsibility for their actions. Will we because of poverty resort to stealing? Is it right?
If we’re not blaming men, we are blaming social media, now it is nollywood producers. Abeg jare
