ReplyDeleteSo my elder brother was asked to wash the transparent glass of latern one evening and he went on doing it and was practically playing with it and saying in his mind what if this glass fall and break? His thoughts came to fruition and praaaaaaaa the glass came shattering 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 the beating he received eh,since then he doesn't play whenever he's asked to wash it

ReplyDeleteI still use the kerosene stove since I saw gas fire in the hospital where I work.
ReplyDeleteThe man, a hotel manager was caught in the kitchen fire in the hotel. His entire body
was white and he was breathing with whistling. Xray showed that his lungs were gone,
he inhaled the burning gas fire and it burnt his lungs. He died within a few days
in spite of the top notch care.
You know the worse thing? Nigeria doesn't even have functional fire service outfit.
Throughout my childhood, we never used gas to cook, because my dad's friend died in a gas fire accident. The irony was that we had an oven with electric cookers and gas burners as parts of the oven. We cooked with the electric cookers and baked with the oven, but never the gas cookers. We never had a gas cylinder. He refused to buy. We also used kerosene stoves.
DeleteFour years back, he summoned courage and got himself a gas cooker. Anybody that uses it must endure his repeated cautions on its usage.
I hear people say they r scared of gas but since my parents got married early 80s. They used gas. Me i no sabi use kerosene stove till tomorrow. And my mum had at least 3 filled gas cylinders in the house at any time. In the store next to the kitchen. Na God dey keep us. We never carried naked fire in the house sha.

ReplyDeleteThe first pics, the wick holder of a kerosene lantern. I still have a kerosene lantern at a corner in my kitchen. I remember cleaning the globe of my mum's lantern and it fell and scattered. Mum reminded me of that incident till I left home for school. Lol
That stove was mostly used by those that are financially alright.

My dad is still using that stove whenever he goes to the village. They gave him 2 as his wedding gifts in 1980 and one of it is still in use.

ReplyDeleteMy grand mother is such a hoarder, the one my mum bought for her, i saw it where she packed it with a host of other ngwo ngwo na ngwo ngwo as at 2011 when we came back for her burial.
I saw that kerosene lantern somewhere about two weeks back and I was like, WHAT?!

ReplyDeleteMy mom told me some of those kerosene oil stoves used to just explode and catch on fire. And the food would taste like kerosene...lol
