    1. He forgot that a room in London cost about £500. Train ticket is about £100 a month depending on the zone you travel. You can't survive with £1,400 in uk if you live in a bedroom flat except you live outside London where life is so boring.

    2. I will NEVER encourage laziness as this is very great for starters. At least no need for begging or depending on anyone.

But having to work and bills take up almost everything is not admirable either.

I know a lot of people there that don't have more than 200 pounds left after paying bills a month. And when someone begs money from Naija and you give them 20pounds from your micro 200pounds they will start swearing for you.

Uche this will increase the pressure people put on abroad people and it's not fair to them. Abroad is not any rosy.

People work so hard & hardly have enough to survive.

    3. I know people who spend almost £10,000 on annual train ticket cos they live outside London but commute there for work. Transportation in the UK is very expensive.

    1. Y'all need to do a research and have a clear understanding of what "living cost" of a country entails. If una convert am like that from Dollar/GBP/JPY, you fit de discouraged to go work 2mr morning, I know Nigerias economy is in turmoil, but it's unfair to judge based on that conversion rate, totally oblivious to the cost of living.

  3. Even with our shikini salary here, bills still take up most of it. Fuel, food, electricity, water, security etc have all skyrocketed. A big shame to our politicians. To think there's a rumour abt fuel going to #300 a litre. Bubu, do make u dey go wit ur poverty rending aura.

  4. Exactly!
Even with that amount, you can scrape up some to send to your folks here in Nigeria, while looking for the better job, or after your studies.

  5. Wrong mindset....been unemployed abroad not mean you're lazy or proud. This is oversabi mentality of nigerians they carry overseas. The next thing he'll calculate how much you could make by working 16hrs per day and per month and convert to naira

  6. Oh well, it's all about a system that works where everyone has a sense of belonging

    3. To find a job isn't easy in Nigeria especially when you don't have connections. It's frustrating how I have applied severally and don't even get a response. The one that managed to reply me was offering 35k for a 7-5pm job, they didn't even take into consideration my years of experience or other qualifications I had.
Right now I'm just looking for means to start a business and then go ahead to further my studies.

  8. There are many factors that can make one be unemployed in abroad, if you don't have work permit who will want to risk employing you.

True that people are underpaid in Nigeria, but then it is a fact that anyone who earns or makes a profit of 500K monthly and stays clear of the over-priced parts of Lagos and Abuja, should have the resources to live a more comfortable and fulfilled life, than someone who earns 1500 pounds monthly.

if you make a profit of 500k monthly, you can comfortably marry (even if your partner is not working) and live in a decent apartment (2 or 2+ bedroom), comfortably raise 3 kids and drive a car, while solving other problems.

On the other hand, you can't say same for someone earning 1500 pounds monthly, u dey craze to marry wife that is not working or to born pikin. If you manage to marry and have a child not to talk of children. Na suffer be una name.

Even as a bachelor, you can't even afford to maintain the rent and bills of a comfortable two bedroom alone with 1500-pound salary.

My view, if you have something doing that is fetching you enough money to live a comfortable life in Nigeria, no think am to leave it and migrate because of MORE MONEY, instead find means to increase your earnings. However, if Naija no dey work for you at all, find means and Japa and try another place.

    1. Is the 500k job available to an average Nigerian?

How much is the federal govt. Paying a level 8 again?

  9. I am a banker , been one for 13 years and I am an assistant Mgr with a salary of almost 800k apart
    From other perks .
Not all Bankers earn small .

    1. So 800k is not small, after working for 13 years? It is well

      Delete
    2. If someone invests 13 years abroad in any career, they won't be earning that amount you just called now. You spent 13 years and you don't still earn up to the minimum wage someone will earn on their first year as a cleaner, not a professional job

    3. I was a banker in Nigeria earning 150k before I travelled to Germany for my masters. I got a job of 3600 Euros per month after tax. Even after paying rents and bills I have over 2000 Euros ( 1.2M) in my account every month(I am single). Try to leave Nigeria if you can. Naira is becoming useless.

    4. Anderson, there is something called COST OF LIVING. The cleaner earning more than that 800k equivalent has larger bills to pay.

16.06, don't worry, when you get a mortgage and start a family, you will understand.

    5. 15:41 please tell us what you earn. See mouth like 800k is not small.

  11. Even if bills will take almost all of the earnings at least they enjoyed what they paid for unlike here, one will use the little earnings without enjoying the services

  12. If you're earning 980k in naija you are a man/woman.

  13. It is only the ignorant that talks like William. It is foohlish to dwell on simplistic generalisation. Firstly, most jobs in the UK and other developed countries are provided by the private sector, especially small and medium scale industries. If things are that rosy for the categories of workers who receive 1400 pounds, they wouldn't be doing 2-3 jobs a day. America is a country that strive on cheap foods and goods , so the basic salary is low compared to other developed nations. Secondly, our republic is a nation of subsidies. Education, fuel . electricity, health care and others are subsidized. Thirdly, our import dependency is outrageous. We import almost everything d, creating jobs for the citizens of other nations. Income tax in Norway and so many other western nations is 40% plus. Nigerians pay one of the lowest VAT in the world. No doubt , our economy is not doing well, but the excessive casualisation of the banking sector while they are declaring tens of billions of naira as profits is baffling. Our banks have the capacity to pay a lot higher than what they are paying their staff today

    2. 20.07 go and check how much healthcare costs in America. Go and check the amount of student loans people have to take on, then you will understand.

    3. I dont care how mch it is in America, it wasnt subsidized in this country

    4. 22.29 pls go and read up what subsidizing means and the ways it is implemented. You want to get the same quality of education as in America while paying peanuts, don't joke pls.

  14. Okay the cleaner pays rent for £700 a month other bills (internet water electricity) £ 100. Food for a month £200. Transportation £200

Standard of living is different in every country. Don’t let ignorant people confuse you. You can thrive in any Nigeria & anywhere. Be wise, hard working and diligent

  15. That's the problem of wage differential especially in developing countries like Nigeria. Workers are not being remunerated accordingly which brings about income inequality. Like he rightly said, it's the problem of the system. Our institutions(laws rules and orders) are not working efficiently

  17. There are many options to leave cheap in diaspora. I know in US, they have Walmart and 99c stores but some fakers love to waste money on frivolities.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Even paper bags for gifts in dollar stores smell of lead. It’s not a favorite place to shop in the US except for paper products. Lead and other pollutants from cheap imports make the dollar store a no go. Walmart is not cheap in children’s clothing. You get a better bargain at Macy’s with quality clothing than Walmart. Their produce ( fruits, veggies are also not as good as the regional grocers. It’s true it’s an option to live cheap but that’s not the long term ambition of anyone. A lot of us came here after having very good jobs in Nigeria and focused on the American dream, sent the kids to good school districts and the system works though tax is very high for the high tax bracket but you see what your taxes are being spent on, at least where we live. I hope we somehow Miraculously get a leader that gets it. Converting $ to Naira is misleading & can lead to false expectations & resentment though. I fill my car tank with $80 and buy a tuber of yam at $12. Our bills are denominated in $.
