The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has cancelled the national cut-off mark
The body said it would now be left for Nigeria’s tertiary institutions to determine its admission benchmark.
This decision was made on Tuesday at the 2021 policy meeting presided over by the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu.
The Registrar of JAMB Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, who spoke during the forum said some universities such as the University of Maiduguri proposed 150, Usman Dan Fodio University Sokoto proposed 140, Pan Atlantic University proposed 210, University of Lagos 200, Lagos State University190, Covenant University 190, and Bayero University Kano, 180.
According to the stakeholders, the 2021 admissions will be conducted only through JAMB CAPS and no institution is allowed to admit candidates without uploading their details onto the portal.

Hmmmm jamb has long lost its relevance since when connections became the mandate for admission. Na northerners go kuku embrace this news as na dem "know book pass" lol

Our education system is fast losing it's relevance. Without the cut off marks, what's the essence of Jamb? This is a No No for me. Let the Universities stick with post-UME

This isn't great news at all. It will turn to admission for the highest bidder rather than by merit, especially those professional courses.
They are giving too much power to these schools to do whatever they like. It would have been better if jamb gives the cut-off and send names of students to the school, leaving the schools with no choice but to admit them. With these new rule, some schools will re-fix post UME to rip off these students.
I am disappointed at how Jamb have reduced their standards. This is a great news to schools in Northern Nigeria.

University will say you need 140 to qualify to write our PUME and above 280 to get admitted. More money-making ventures for the schools
