ReplyDeleteTonight I remember...I remember one of my experiences living with my uncle and his wife.
ReplyDeleteAs my routine every night at about 10/11pm, I had gone to pack left over bones from this pepper soup joint for our dogs. We had a couple. As usual, I made the dogs soup with bones, salt, palm oil and grounded dried okro called orunla in Yoruba. I feed the dogs some with eba and went to bed.
Morning came, and off I went to school. I was in SS2. As expected, school closed and I came home. Luckily I didn't have to cook much 😄😄😄 so I thought. "Make your eba and take out of the okro soup"........yes, THE OKRO SOUP FOR THE DOGS🥺🥺🥺😭😭. That was what I was worth to my aunt I guess. A stubborn me did not eat it. I cooked dinner and was ordered not to eat in the house until I eat eba and okro. Yeah....I didn't eat until I got to school courtesy my friends. Got home, made the eba in her presence, dished it, swallowed at least 2 morsels and thrashed the remainder when she left.
I'm a mom today and sad because this young boy reminds me of those horrible six years. I wish I can take him away from them. Trust me no physical abuse but this dehumanizing treatment lingers forever. God lead me.
