I think this is the worst accident in aviation history...going by the number of people killed.
ReplyDeleteweather was severe, visibility was poor.
Because of confusing between air traffic control tower at Tenerife airport and KLM, the KLM pilots
attempted to take off, even though control tower said to taxi to a point and wait.
Pan Am had clearance and was speeding on the runway ...suddenly it saw KLM on the runway.
Pan Am tried to avoid collision but it was too late...61 people survived.
After this accident some rules of communication between air traffic control towers and pilots were changed:
Pilots are required to repeat any instruction given by the control tower to make sure it is understood.
