Former Edo Governor Oshiomole And Deputy Edo Governor Shaibu Bury The Hatchet At Captain Hosa's Night Of Tributes..

A beautifully choreographed, solemn but fitting night of tributes, held yesterday in Benin City, the capital of Edo State in honor of the late Captain Idahosa Okunbo Wells (“Capt Hosa”).

The event brought together people from all works of life, creed and political leaning under one roof to pay honor to the late great international businessman and renowned philanthropist. It was a night of songs, sober reflection and heartfelt emotion as close friends and family came to memorialize the life and times of a man for the ages.

Notable amongst the dignitaries at the occasion were the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Honorable Philip Shaibu and the former governor of Edo State Comrade Adams Oshiomole. The duo was pictured warmly exchanging pleasantries in a move suggestive of a thawing of the ice in a relationship that had, to say the least, become frosty from the time of the last Gubernatorial Elections in the state which saw the incumbent and now governor Mr. Godwin Obaseki secure a convincing victory on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) having defected with his deputy Mr. Shaibu from the APC after a spectacular falling out with Oshiomole who himself was the Chairman of the APC at the time.

It is said that the passing of time conspires to heal old wounds; what better time and under what better circumstances to bury even the most pernicious of hatchets than at the final homeward journey of a man like Captain Hosa who sacrificed so much for his people and who like many a speaker at the event confirmed whilst paying their tributes, was a man given to forgiveness and rapprochement.

As Captain Hosa proceeds on the journey to his final resting place, it is without a doubt that the spirit of reconciliation and peaceful coexistence is one he would have loved to see return to two of his former allies and close friends; indeed, it would not be far-fetched to think that he would be smiling down from heaven in quiet satisfaction that even in death he had created a fitting opportunity to remake old friendships and heal old wounds.

May his soul rest in perfect peace.
