IPOB Leader Nnamdi Kanu's Trial Adjourned To January 2022

On Wednesday, November 10, 2021 Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja adjourned the trial of detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu to January 19, 2022.

This ruling came after Kanu’s team of lawyers, staged a walkout over the refusal of operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) to allow some of them access into the courtroom.

Kanu was brought into the courtroom around 9:52 am shortly after his case was called up and he decried the refusal of security agents to allow some members of his legal team, especially his lawyer from the United States of America, Bruce Fein, to enter the courtroom.

The IPOB leader told the court that Mr. Fein, who he said was handling a case for him in the US, was around to witness his trial.

When asked by the judge, if he was ready to conduct the proceedings himself; in the absence of his lawyers, Kanu replied in the negative.

Meanwhile, counsel to FG, Mister Mohamed Abubakar, who is the Director of Public Prosecution; urged the court to proceed with the trial in the absence of Kanu’s lawyers.

Abubakar told the court that ordinarily, the matter was fixed for a hearing of an application that was filed by the defendant.

He argued that since Kanu’s lead counsel, Mr. Ifeanyi Ejiofor, who was initially inside the courtroom; walked out with his team shortly before the arrival of the judge; his pending application should be deemed abandoned.

Nnamdi Kanu was extradited to Nigeria a few months ago.

In a short ruling, though Justice Nyako expressed his displeasure over the conduct of Kanu’s lawyers; she declined to dismiss the pending application; and rather adjourned the case till January 19 and 20, 2022, for trial.

    2. That's to tell you the government have no good case against him. Seeing the magnitude and assemblage of lawyers in his legal team, the government always run from their own court. Believe me, if there's a strong case against him, this case won't linger this long. They would speedily hear it inorder to jail him. Always adjourning the case speaks volume. All they want is a political solution. If you listen to Malami comments yesterday, he hinted on that the government will welcome a political solution on Kanu's case and Igboho if brought to the table. If truly these men were guilty, would he be talking about the government being opened to political solution? Everyone may not like IPOB or Kanu but we shouldn't be blinded by hate or emotions. You don't talk about political solution on one who's guilty of a serious offence as the government have been painting it all along.

Let me ask you now, to you he's guilty, why is the government delaying in jailing him? Or isn't treason jailable punishment? If you answer my question I will come back and ask another.

    7. Teejay, why do you ignorantly, yet stupidly post comments just for the sake of it. Thanks for wrongly sharing what Malami said. And thanks for defending your murderer and murder sponsor leader Cownu Lamidi. The weakest lawyer in Nigeria has thousands of cases and evidences against your coward leader. Even an intending lawyer with just two minutes moot room court experience will win his weak legal team. Ejiofor is just a noisemaker and succeeds in fooling all vulnerable and foolish ipobians.

Just get three Facebook live videos of kanu of him promoting violence, instigating his people to attack police and kills those who disagree with him and his useless followers, connect them easily with recent attacks in the south east, you are done. Your masi abi mazi will be nailed millions years in prison. Very easy.

You are here shouting and barking for a guilty fraudster with below par legal team. Who know them? Half baked boys.

    8. Teejay, by this last comment of yours, you have admitted that kanu isn’t innocent. You are confirming, in response to anonymous 10:32 that kanu is guilty and that your concern is that his case should be hastened. That’s it.
If not, you wouldn’t ask anon to bring out or show you the otherwise.

Kanu’s case will run its course. At the end, it will be prison sentence. At least for ten years. Then he will be broken snd useless.

    9. Anon 11:54 you wish 😃😀😃😃😀 Why is your government opened to political solution if you think he's guilty and prison bound? That's the reason we want an accelerated hearing on this case.

      Delete
    10. Eric, Why are they always adjourning and running from the case if you feel the government have a good case to jail him? Won't they be glad to quickly jail him? Kanu is innocent so far until proven otherwise by the law court. Remember the Nigerian court refuted the government labelling of IPOB as an unlawful society. Let there be accelerated hearing as his lawyers are saying. Kanu himself want a speedy hearing of his case. Why the delay tactics? Why are they suddenly opened to political solution?

    1. Yes... The family reported that the DSS refused him other clothes... His international lawyer is the target. He said it yesterday that he knows he's the target. But why are they afraid of him? What are they trying to hide from international observations? Is it why they are hell bent on secret trial all along?

Nigerian government truly don't want to hear this case else they won't be running each time it's being called up.

    3. The American lawyer has no licence to practise law in Nigeria. If he only attempted to go there to witness the case and he was denied entry to the courtroom, then he could have followed the case online as Nnamdi Kanu's mis-led followers have been doing. Kanu should sack and replace his pack of incompetent so-called lawyers. They cannot get him out of this "ZOO" cage he is now held in. Serve him Abakaliki rice for Christmas and Offada rice for the New Year in prison.

      Delete
    4. Which nonsense international lawyer? The same fraud and racist man known in the US? You think bringing an American lawyer to stand for a case of a criminal in Nigeria works? If not ipobian idiots, who would suggest that? He has no legal right in Nigeria just like a Nigerian lawyer cannot in the US or any other parts of the world except going through their legally constituted certifying bodies.

Your idiot leader is prison bound. In the prison of the zoo he will remain. He will get old there.

  6. Kanu was never extradited to Nigeria. We should get our words right when using them. Stella I believe you never wrote the above but culled from somewhere. He was rendition to Nigeria through smuggling. Even Kenyan government admitted in court just recently that there's no record of him in detention in Kenya. If there's no record of him in Kenya security facility, how then do you talk about extradition? Don't extradition goes through court proceedings? Are we not learned enough to know the usuage of words and not to be fooled by some concorted brown envelope gutter journalism sponsored by the government.

To show how incompetent the judge is, how do you proceed on a case as such without Kanu's lawyers? Asking him that question is very stupid of her and a mockery to the judicial system. Justice Binta Nyako taking order from DSS is absurd and an indication of compromise.

What are they afraid of Kanu's international lawyer Bruce Fein? What are they trying to hide from the international communities?

I'm beginning to understand that the government have no solid case against Kanu. If they actually do, they would speedily hear this case and jail him if that's their motive. It's over 6 months now and the government is always running from their own court. Everytime the case comes up, they keep adjourning it. Exactly what they did the first time for two years. There should be accelerated hearing if truly they think he's guilty of the charges and then jail him. Or don't they want that?

    1. Mumu, deceiving yourself. First of all, no where did Kenyan government admitted in any fake court. Which court? Your mazi brother propaganda court? Ejiofor’s court? Aba court? Biafra court? Liar.

Secondly, it’s not over six months since your coward fendi fraudster gigolo leader was brought back to Nigeria like a useless chicken meat. Correct your false information. Calculate the date properly.

So because it is kanu the case should be accelerated? Were there no evidences again Orji Kalu? How long did his case take before he was nailed? Because it is this idiot, court should be sitting for him.

Your incompetent legal team walk out of the court, not Justice Nyako. The woman is far more advanced in the legal system than your boy boy. And she did not take orders from the DSS. Stop lying. Throw away your sentiments snd emotions.

There are numerous videos of kanu out there promoting violence and supporting murder. So those are not evidence enough? People like you should be arrested because you are on the same Facebook live page propagating violence snd sharing videos with your murdererous group members. I pray that the Nigerian Intelligence fish you out. Murder apologist.

    2. Let me puncture one of your lies. Go to Vanguard newspaper on 4th November 2021 and read what Kenyan government said before the court. Let me quote briefly to you.

"Kenyan Government has again distanced itself from the arrest and rendition of the Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

The Government in its defense to the suit filled against it by Kanu’s brother, Kingsley Kanunta Kanu on behalf of the IPOB Leader, confirmed to the court in Kenya that Kanu did not undergo extradition proceedings in Kenya."

I love the word 'rendition' used there. Extraordinary rendition is an international crime. Buhari attempted that on Dikko in 1983. I hope you know the story too well and how the people involved were all jailed. Nigeria will answer to this crime committed soonest.

      I'm done with you.

    4. There's something people are not understanding in this case. It's no longer Nnamdi Kanu versus the federal government rather it's a case against the Igbo race. Go and read up what the Ohaneze ndi Igbo sociocultural group said about it yesterday. It will bring to you the understanding of what we have been saying. We saw how our respected traditional leaders were humiliated yesterday and in previous court hearing. They were treated like children and chased away from court. Can you do that to an Emir or even Iman.

Good a thing the northern government have never hid their hatred on the Igbo people. The same way he labelled a nation a dot in the circle and threatened them with another round of genocide.

Our only crime is the part of the country we come from.

    7. Teejay, it is time for me to tell u to rest this matter. These people here hate the igbos and seek every means possible to show it. And the igbos, some desperately seek to be seen as different by other tribes so they will come and say everything negative because they will pretend like they do not know what started the agitation in the first place.

You will never change their mind even if u explain from now till forever. Leave them be.

I just hope at the end of all this drama, something good finally comes out of it for the igbos.

And no, I am not Pro Kanu, never was never will be but I am fully Pro igbo.

    8. First, a Northern Emir would not be so stupid and foolish to come to court to show solidarity with someone like MNK accused of such crime. The Northern Emirs have a certain dignity, that is why they are very much respected.

second, the case is against MNK and not against the Igbo people. Some Igbos like you would support nonsense, but no this, the vast majority of Igbos feel nothing for or about MNK.

Third, Igbos have always been in bed with the North, so when was this hatred for the Igbos? Was this when the Igbos voted for Northerners in 1959, 1963, 1978, 1983, 2007 or 2019? At what time did the North hatred for Igbos prevented Igbos from voting for Northerners in national elections?

Finally, for people like you, your crime is that you are filled with bigotry and hatred. Cure that and you'd be able to live better.

The South East yes had been suffering some injustice but can you truly say Nmamdi Kanu has made things better than since this madness of a struggle began?. He and his inner caucus have certainly become very rich.
He and all the so called commanders are mostly living abroad save for their enforcers at home. They live peacefully abroad with their families amd go to work everyday yet you make ndigbo land very hot with killings everyday amd the very senseless sit at home, for a people that are largely self employed and you call it sacrifice and putting the govt under pressure. Does Buhari even see the sit am home or feel it?.

  9. Let Teeejay and their cohorts be fooling themselves.

You brought a whiteman to entertain your IPOB members and that one was talking anyhow as if he wants to teach us about our legal system, Who the hell is he to be saying he is the main target?, exaggerated sense of self importance.
There are youtube recordings on Biafra radio where Kanu was urging his boys to kill Nigerian Army solders and policemen, same thing he did during the ENDSARS protests.
He kept deceiving his dumb followers that the government dare not arrest him because he has a British passport while forgetting that he has dual nationality. You say you are British but you dey cause trouble for Nigeria and believe you are untouchable,

His boys were killing people in the South East but some people kept lying that it was an attempt by Buhari to install an APC governor in Anambra, well the results have proven that there was no any attempt by the Federal Govt to rig for the APC as the party came a distant 3rd,

How can a lawyer walk out of the court because Mr. Fein and Ohanaeze officials weren't allowed in as if it was the court was an Umunna meeting, you walked out and rushed to grant interview to the press for the purpose of your IPOB members but ended up extending Kanu's stay in detention by another 70days.
You make a big deal about Ohanaeze's presence in court as if they are the defendant or as if Nnamdi Kanu is their spokesman or President. Was he not abusing them and all igbo leaders just a few weeks ago?

It seems that the lawyers only strategy is bringing boys to sing in court and granting press interviews
