DowenGATE : Nigerian Police Say 3 Students Who Were Mentioned By Sylvester Oromoni Before He Died Are Currently In Custody

The Lagos State commissioner of police Hakeem Odumosu told Channels Television on Tuesday December 7,2021 that Three students of Dowen College, Lekki Lagos are currently assisting the police in their investigation into the death of Sylvester Oromoni junior, a 12-year-old student of the college who died from complications of bullying....

Odumosi said three of the five students mentioned by Sylvester before he died are already in custody and cooperating with the police in their findings.

Although Odumosu did not give the identities of those in custody he insisted that they are key suspects.

The police boss explained that the Command is set to go for the post mortem of the body in Delta state to ascertain the cause of death.

He assured that police authorities in both Lagos and Delta State are keenly interested in the outcome of the investigation to unravel the mystery behind Sylvester’s death.

    1. Yes, you might be right that they can father kids but that doesn't rule away the fact That they will be charged as minors or juvenile not as adults.

    2. I don't believe that, they must have picked some homeless kids from the streets and say its them

    5. The law states that a child above 7 years can be held criminally liable if they commit a criminal offence and also can be tried and detained as adults if the crime committed is murder which a a crime punishable only by death sentence.

Juniors case is a small fry because of his “ dying declaration” but Nigeria is a lawless and useless country, they will hide those miscreants because of money. If this crime was committed in another school by people of poor parents by now those kids would have been paraded all over the place.
I’m a lawyer in Nigeria and a doctor in the US and professionally both professions by law does not believe in spirituality but trust me we know and I have seen people go that route .in a case like this I’m sorry going spiritual solves all these wahala because those children committed that crime with intent knowing that what they planned doing to that innocent child would kill him or cause him a grievous bodily harm. You see their parents coming out also to spew trash, go spiritual and let them know how it feels please

Let them and their parents have a taste of what they did to young Sylvester.

  9. I don't trust the Nigerian police. Don't they have names?

They are not too young, they are senior students which means they might be in the age range of 15-16

  10. Stella, they should be tried as adults. Or remanded in a juvenile home till they're of age.

  13. My opinion may be unpopular but I will say it still.
No child is born wicked. None. These kids are minors.
There are homes where underaged househelps are tortured and maltreated. How about domestic violence? Absent parents? Physically present parents but ABSENT in connecting.
I hear comments like "children of nowadays". Who gave birth to them?
This is a sad sad situation. The system that created these hardened children will move on and are hoping these kids are sentenced to condemnation without redemption.
Yes, they should be punished. Yes, there should be consequences for actions. However, let us all learn from this. There are 'Sylvesters' all over the country cut short in their prime.
The system failed Sylvester. The Parents, school, staff, society. We are so concerned about image that we can ignore the fundamental problems.
Let change start with us in our homes, work, society. Say no to bullying.

    2. I concur with you. I made the same comment the last time I commented on this story. The culture is the problem. Everyone is a product of the culture they live in and until the culture of cultism is eradicated stories like these will forever continue. Who is visibly speaking up against these things? The body parts industry is still thriving. Men are still dropping off the bodies of women who died in bed with them along the side of the road. The value for life is cheap all over, not just in Nigeria, but until ppl really start opening their eyes to who they truly are and the world they truly live in incidents like these will continue. And folks must always remember that nobody is ever as good as they think they are, darkness is in everyone. And some parents even those with money create loveless, hellish homes for their children to live in, will their children turn out to be saints? This is not the first incident, neither the 100th, but this is the one that made it to the media. What of all the stories that did not make it to the media.

      Delete
    3. True, the world is a bad place but people who commit crime will still be held liable for their offence. This one is murder, there is a finality with death that you can't change, can't escape from. If he was badly beaten but survived, it wouldn't have made the news...

    4. 13:57 please, forget this your perception.
      SOME children were borne EVIL!

    1. What is the age of criminal responsibility in Nigeria? I am sure they are not too young. Yes, proceedings will be private and all those snapping of pictures like Chidinma won't be allowed because they are minors.

They will be tried in court and If found guilty they will go to remand homes for children. But of course, this will not happen because their parents will press all the buttons.

  16. Stella there are some cases where Minors are tried as adults e.g In UK the trial of 2 young boys Robert Thompson and Jon Venables who killed a boy at the railroad tracks in 1993...But in this case, they will be tried at juvenile courts and taken to juvenile homes for rehabilitation..

    ReplyDelete
  17. I don't know about Nigerian law but there are crimes you commit as a minor and you get tried as an adult, severe crimes that mostly involves death. Eg the boy who went on a shooting rampage in his school killing four students and injuring more is being tried as an adult and he is only 15, his parents too have been arrested and charged with some kind of murder too for buying him the gun. I hope this children are used as an example to deter others from taking such route in the future. You have a choice to make but know that poor choices always have consequences

    2. Yes @kidjo trusts the American system, they are swift when it comes to crime. The parents were found hiding in an abandoned apartment, they were trying to flee to Canada. The school, the boy's parents and the friend that provided the apartment where they were hiding are all facing charges and jail terms. I just hope that all the people complacent in this boy's murder should be held accountable

      Delete
    3. Anon 15.31, that is a system where things work. No time for sme sme. The parents of the remaining 2 boys who have disappeared should be arrested. They must bring out their son, rubbish.

  18. They will not be taken to regular prison.

They are not too young to face the law. They are over 14years. Afterall, all these useless boys that stab in the uk go to children's prison. They will be sent to correctional facilities for children where they rehabilitate them and their sentence is not usually long.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Thank God if the commissioner is saying the truth, but those boys must be punished..

Whatever way those kids can be tried I don't care as long as they sever the punishment of what they have done. Also the school management and house master shouldn't be left out period.

  26. Can we have a proper investigation? There has been rush to judgement. The emotions are raw but clear heads must prevail. Let’s have an autopsy and then an inquest. The beating may have started a chain of evens that led to his death. At this point, I can only see a case of “Assault Occasioning bodily harm” for now. A nexus to his actual death has to be established.

And May I also point out that all those who are here screaming all sorts of judgement on these kids are themselves bullies . If you want to know what a bully look like, look in the mirrors.
Definition of Bully: To seek to harm, intimidate or coerce someone.

      Rush to judgment indeed.
      Beating MAY have started? 🙄🙄😏

    2. Maybe you are one of the parents of the bullies or a staff of the school. What sickness was he having before that led him to hospital? He was beaten mercilessly and intentionally trampled by 6 people and you are still talking nonsense. Respect yourself oh!!!

      Delete
    3. Precisely the point I was making. Both Anons are bullies without realizing it. Can you not have a conversation without trying to intimidate or make unnecessary assumptions?

I am neither a parent of the kids nor a doctor. My point is that, in the rush to judgement we may be absolving the hospital while focusing on the bullies. Even if you jail the kids for life and the hospital, which may be culpable, is not punished, that is not justice.

While we may be justifiably enraged by the actions of the bullies, we need to ask questions about the treatment he received

  30. Stella they are not too young to be prosecuted, in Western world such kids are to be tried as an adult when the offence committed is the type that live was lost .

    ReplyDelete
  31. I’m surprised anyone can say are they not too young to be detained? Anyone that says that should be detained as well. Too young to be detained but not too young to bully to the point of death? If they didn’t deem it fit to pity that boy at any point, then they deserve no ones pity in this matter. Whenever the temptation comes upon you to say ha they’re just kids, go watch that boys video again and remind yourself that he was also just a kid, then choose which kid your sympathy lies with!!!dammit!
