Port Harcourt Soot And Tips You Need To Get By....

A recent BBC report states that there is a 4% increase in respiratory illnesses in Rivers State, and in 5yrs times there will be an increase in respiratory tract infections and cancer.

Here are the tips on how to survive the soot.

1. Clean your room/house regularly.
The soot usually settles on surfaces inside and outside the house. Mop floors and clean surfaces with damp clothes more often, daily if possible. This is very important if you’ve got kids around.

2. Reduce ambient air in the house by keeping the windows shut or curtains down.
This is best if you have an air conditioning system due to the heat. But it helps reduce the entrance of dirty air into your house.

3. Clean your AC air filter weekly, and you’ll be surprised. Whether at home or office, please do this for your health sake. The soot is trapped there, so clean up. Also, clean your window net.
Reduce outdoor activities if possible.

4. Outdoor activities such as morning jogging are now dangerous! I repeat, dangerous! The high humidity during early hours makes the air heavy with soot and its risky for you while engaging in any cardiovascular exercise.

5. Change your beddings more often if you leave your windows open. The same applies to your curtains. Also, flip the clothes you dry outside before taking them inside.

6. Drink lots of water and take lots of vitamin C enriched foods/fruits. You might want to invest in vitamin C supplements too.

7. Do not try to abuse antibiotics in this period due to constant flu and cough. Please go and see a doctor.

8 Ensure you raise your voice and demand action from the government, keep doing so until they find a lasting solution.

Pass this information around to loved ones....our lives matter, wake up Port Harcourt People and tackle the soot.

My own tip is to leave Port Harcourt as soon as possible....

  3. Exactly! Same thing I was discussing with my mum the other day. This soot of a thing is very bad. They inhale it into their lungs which might cause harm to their health.

Even here in Aba, there’s soot maybes because we live close to an abattoir. When we insert finger or tissue our nostrils, it comes out very black. This worries me so much. I no wan hear say my people have lung infection. God please.

    Thanks for these tips ma’am

  4. Stella, what about us that have business over there? I thought about this just yesterday and listening to the governor saying he has no power over it, got me more worried.

For some days now I've been sick and the cough have reduced very well. Only God knows where it's coming from.

I just pray drastic measure is being used on these oil bunkers to put an end to this madness.

  8. Please leave PH if you can;you can get another means of livelihood elsewhere if you keep an open mind..

Life is worth living and you can only enjoy all that money you are hustling for when you are not just alive but in good health..

What's the essence of making money or surviving if you cant be healthy to enjoy the fruit of your labour?

And yes I would leave Lagos and forget my businesses if anything threatens the air I breathe;so kindly dont think I'm just talking..

Please your life is important,I'm begging you..

That's the message I sent to my friend 10 months ago and today he is in Lagos and life still goes on..

Please Dear Bv reading this and in PH;The above message is for you too;kindly weigh your option and go for the best..

    1. *coughs*..... Martins not easy as you think. Relocating to a new environment and state doesn't seems that easy. Leaving one's business behind to go start all over again isn't that easy as said. I understand what you're saying though but so many things are involve here.

  12. If you don't have any tangible thing doing in PH please relocate to a sane climate for your health sake, truth be told all this big cities in Nigeria are over rated sef, they are very expensive to live in, yes you make good money but at the end of the day bills takes it all.

  13. Thanks . But the soot is on the increase even adhering to that tips. God help us all

  14. Stella,it isn't that easy to leave. I work here;my kids go to school here. Trust me, it's not that simple.

We ensure my floor is mopped everyday, even at that everywhere is still filled with soot.

My children's nostrils always black. I adhere to all those tips up there o. Recently my eldest son developed some respiratory issue. He'll be breathing really fast. When we got to the hospital,we were told he's allergic to 'something'. The floor is tiled ,so it's only a centre rug that we have and this is cleaned daily. I just knew it's the soot.

That's why I'm doing all I can to relocate with my family,2022, so help me God.

  15. This soot of a thing, some places do not experience it. I am wondering if the air filters it before it spreads. Choba/nta/etc, areas, u can leave ur house without mopping for a week, but no try am for transamadi, abuloma n fimie. Same goes for cocaine village areas. It's very minimal in some places, nonexistent in some places and very heavy in some places that you will mop per hour if you dont want your feet to be black. But wike said, nothing can be done about it. It has come to stay cos kpo fire petrol is cheaper and cost of production is less to the detriment of the people. But we go survive am cos no be today kpo fire start. It has been there right from Odili era.

  18. Please wear face masks at all times. Everyday try to take cucumber, pineapple and ginger blend and drink to help your immune system cos your body will work overtime.

Also prepare water+white vinegar+olive/coconut oil+any essential oil in a spray bottle and spray around your house, furnitures to manage the dust and soot.
