Diphtheria is a serious infectious disease caused by the Corynebacterium diphtheriae bacterium. It primarily affects the respiratory system, symptoms include sore throat, fever, swollen glands and weakness.#PreventEpidemicsNaija

This outbreak in some states in Nigeria illustrates the growing risk of emerging and remerging infectious disease outbreaks and the need to strengthen epidemic preparedness efforts in the country to better respond to public health threats. #PreventEpidemicsNaija.

Diphtheria is preventable! The way to end this and subsequent outbreaks is to ensure that all children and adults who can get vaccinated, get vaccinated. Vaccines are safe; they do not cause harm. The greater danger is the disease the vaccine prevents. #VaccinesWork
