Sunday In House Gists - Fasting

Who is fasting and for how many days? Did your Church make it Mandatory to fast? I have seen some Church programmes on fasting and was quite taken aback when i saw where it was made mandatory...

Why are Pastors 'Forcing' their congregation to fast? Do people look down on those who do not fast?

How long is the fasting period in your church? I saw 30 days in one flier and i was like WHAAAAAAT::: Dry fasting for 30days? dont people die from this?

Lets gist!

  1. I tried it for four days, 6am to 12pm stomach pain almost wrecked my insides.... Nobody told me to go back to food. But if I'm doing intermittent fasting, I don't have issues.

    1. @BB is very clear you need deliverance! Honestly if you can do intermittent fasting and not spiritual fasting! It is obvious, you are loaded with demons! Hope you are not into 🧘‍♀️ yoga? If you are? Look for the nearest Mfm for intensive deliverance.

  2. I attend Salvation Ministries. We are fasting for 21 days then our GLORY REIGN programme will start on the 23rd-27th of January. You are invited,my fellow BV's.
It's not mandatory to fast but I do it every year. 6am-6pm. I think God for his grace. God will settle all of us this year and give us rest round about us in Jesus name

    1. @Anon14:19 when you say 6am to 6pm, do you eat before 6am? And break it 6pm same day? Or you eat the previous night or 6pm previous evening? Please clarify.

    2. Once it's 12 midnight, you stop eating. Till 6pm before you break the fast. I think it's moslems that eat anytime till before 6am,start the fast from 6am and break by 6pm.

    1. Not having sex for 21 days will not kill any serious minded child of God who wants to 'serve God and the interest his kingdom.
Praise Lord I am finally on covenant high way of.

  6. Just make sure your heart is pure when fasting. Feast on God's words while at it, be cheerful, give, sing praises.

Inthe Catholic church our fasting isn't compulsory even during the Lenten season. Everything is between you and your maker.

    1. I'm not really good at fasting, I guess it wasn't that big of a deal in my family while growing up, but you see midnight praying? I can do it Monday to Friday 12: am sharp. That one my mom didn't joke about it and ensured we joined her frequently. But fasting, I can manage 6:am -12:pm and I would literally feel my blood pressure and sugar level dropping.

  7. I have a question and need enlightenment

Why do some insist that during fasting, couples must abstain from love making throughout the period. So what if the hubby or wife wants it,must they deprive themselves.πŸ€”πŸ€”

    1. This is the verse of scripture that is used to butress that point;

      1 Corinthians 7:5
5 Abstaining from sex is permissible for a period of time if you both agree to it, and if it's for the purposes of prayer and fasting - but only for such times. Then come back together again. Satan has an ingenious way of tempting us when we least expect it.

If both couples agree, and they are permitted to copulate after that. Personally, once I break my fast for the day, I can relax with my husband. No guilt, we are one.

  8. I do not think fasting should be mantaded upon a congregation. If you feel led to join your church members and not do it because daddy G. O said to fast, but because you are genuinely seeking God's face, good for you.

Also, no do pass yourself. If you know you cannot fast for long or you have other issues, do what you can, pray, and eat. You are not less than anyone because you did not do 40 days dry fasting and God's faithfulness isn't dependent on your actions- to claim otherwise is simply Legalism and works-based righteousness. .

  10. Fasting in my church…. Living faith church is not mandatory in fact they announce all through that period that if it is not convenient please don’t bother. These fasts are for our own benefit (spiritually) I engage in it and it helps grow my spiritual life and I hear from God. (Please note that God can speak anytime and you can hear anytime if you are tuned)
    I thank God for grace.πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™

  11. Fasting cannot be mandatory, what about those who need to eat for medical reasons. Imagine dying because of following church mandate....mtsscchw

  12. It's a privilege to fast if you ask me; I fast on a spree before, I do that easily but not now, I'm battling low sugar and low blood pressure, I dare not get dehydrated or miss meal especially breakfast, my body will be shaking sometimes and this makes me loose weight and add up in an unhealthy manner.
I eat even when I'm not hungry to avoid body weakness.
If you can fast, you're privileged

    1. There are other things to fast from apart from food

  13. Fasting is not compulsory. You are not fasting unto man but rather onto God who sees the secret things. Your pastor cannot follow you up and down to know whether you ate or not. Do as much as your body can carry. Remember it is called fasting and praying.
Had an opportunity for a six months fasting and prayer last year. God has shown himself faithful beyond my imaginations.

  14. It’s not compulsory in RCCG but necessary as a Christain to wait on the Lord or could be based on your personal indulgence or ideology about the fasting

    2. Please allow her. From 5 years, children can fast. She can start with 11 am or best 12 noon. It is really impressive and helps them.

  18. I fast 24 hours for 7 days eating once a day. Nothing spiritual. Just for the health benefits. Red meat was bad. People of old discouraged it. Fasting has health benefits. They encouraged it. But for some reason, religious people found way to twist and attach it to spirituality.

    1. It serves it's purpose spiritually when done right. Don't let your bitterness against religion describe it as "twisting"

    2. Anon 17:46 That's the brainwashing. There is nothing spiritual about fasting. Of course when you are very hungry, you may start hallucinating and pass that off as a spiritual encounter. What exactly are people fasting these long days in Nigeria for? I don't see any impact of these prayers and fasting in Nigeria. We are still on a highway speed to crime, poverty and other ills of a society. Religious leaders in NIgeria are delusional. Thank God many people abandon the idiocy as soon as they escape from Nigeria.

    3. Anon 16:38- It's called "Fasting and Prayers". Not just fasting. Denying your body of what is likes so much and in that period take time to pray and fellowship with your Maker. There is Food fasting, social media fasting, TV fasting etc.. Whatever you feels takes so much of your attention, and distracts you from God, you do away with it.

By the way, it was not twisted by the "Religious folks πŸ™„πŸ™„". Even Jesus said, there are some kind of problems that do not go away unless Through fasting and prayers. If you want to know where it is in the bible, please read it πŸ€—πŸ˜Š
