DeleteDid he get an assistantship or research fellowship? That is the main thing. If he got full tuition waiver and got a stipend, it will say so. He will pay taxes, health insurance and copay for health insurance. Whether he sends money home depends on his expenses. Stipends are what we call living wage. Just enough for you to live on. But with proper management, he might be able to send at least $200 home a month. Graduate fellows are not well paid but do a lot of work here

Anon 13:55, I was earning more than my husband & handling 80% of the house expenses for 2 years before my company terminated my appointment due to my pregnancy as it stressed me a lot & affected my productivity. He'll be traveling soon & it coincides with a month after my due date. That's why I'm worried bcos I don't want to be financially stranded before I get back on my feet to start looking for another job.

DeleteThe rent is high almost everywhere, also the food costs. As an international student things may even be tougher for him. I hope he uses his time to network well and meet some influential folks who may be able to open some closed doors for him. The amount he is able to send home depends on so many factors. Please have a solid plan B as a backup, and use your support network if needed.

ReplyDeleteThe company I work with gave me a phone to sell MTNVTU for them. The employee handling it was transferred to another branch and she handed over to me.
There is a personal password (PIN) that I have to input before I can transfer unit to a customer to avoid theft just like that MTN SHARE N'SELL which she told me.
The issue is that I forgot the password and I can't find where I wrote it down. I tried resetting it but I was asked some questions which I couldn't answer because I wasn't the one that provided the information used in setting the pin.
The person that handed over to me have also forgotten the password and she also, she was not the one that set up the pin.
It was later that I found out that the person that actually set up the password was an employee that left the company since 2018 and she is no longer around.
Now, the company is now withholding all my salary, saying that I must pay for the unit in that simcard or prove to the auditors that the unit in my book is the same with what is in the phone.
I can't prove that without the pin. The monitary value of the VTU is close to 400K and my 10 months salary cannot even cover it.
I haven't been paid since November and if I stop working, they will lock me up.
Please, is there any possible way that I could be able to set another pin, without providing those information??? I REALLY NEED HELP

I work with a private company. I gave the managements/company the Sim because I actually thought that they Registered the PIN themselves but it turned out that this particular Pin was not set up by them but by an old employee that is no more.
