CBN Affirms That Old And New Naira Notes Are Both Legal Tender In Nigeria

The Central Bank of Nigeria via , Dr Isa Abdulmumin, the Acting Director of Corporate Communications has said that both old and new notes are now legal tender.

He said, “Banks are paying old notes as well as new notes. They are all legal tender.
Yes, the CBN has not issued an official statement on the issue. Anyone banks give to you, you can collect. We just want to make life easy for Nigerians.”

Last week, the Supreme Court gave its verdict on Naira redesign, directing the federal government to allow the validity of N200, N500 and N1000 notes till 31 December.

    2. I still will not touch until I hear or read from the 2 people that imposed it. Even some banks are smart enough not to give it out. That should tell us that the person behind this is no other than ……..

BTW, it seems Nigeria has 2 Presidents now 🤣🤣🤣😂😂

  9. Just imagine the guts of these people!
After shutting down businesses for 2 months. After making millions of citizens lose their earnings because of frivolous bank and POS charges.
People even lost their lives over this nonsense policy!
Yet the Government can't even bother to apologize to Nigerians. No pretence of remorse, no form of empathy. Nothing at all!

How can a Government can treat it's own citizens with this level of impunity. What in the world did we do to deserve these leaders?

  12. Someone should tell CBN and Buhari to release official statements. This verbal approval could be denied tomorrow. They will now say the CBN Communication Director only gave personal view.

My company banks with access bank, our manager called them to ask if we should start collecting the old note from customers and access bank told him they access bank have started issuing it out to customers but cant receive ii from customers,so that means if we collect from customers and want to deposit we have to go to that CBN portal and fill out the form to deposit old notes

  21. Confused lot.

Supreme Court sef shd go and hide its head in shame as ppl no dey send am again, with it's 'abracadabra' pronouncements. Imagine giving ruling and ppl are still asking questions. That's what comes from giving stupid judgments that even a two year old would discredit.

As for the naira crunch, the govt shd just tell the ppl that it has no money to print notes. As far as I see it, that was why they mopped up the ones in circulation and most likely gave them to politicians for the elections. Now most of the money is generally hoarded away and they can't introduce new notes.

    Useless Banana Republic.
