Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State, on Sunday morning maintained the lead in the governorship election after the collation of 10 out of the 20 local government areas where the supplementary election was held on Saturday.


Dr Nasiru Idris of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Aminu Bande, his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rival, are running neck to neck in the ongoing supplementary election in Kebbi State. Out of the 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) where the election was held, the results of five have been declared so far as of early Sunday morning.

 The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested at least 12 persons over alleged vote buying during the supplementary polls that took place in Kano and Katsina States on Saturday. The Commission’s Kano Zonal Commander, Faruk Dogondaji, told NAN that the suspects were arrested with N1.5 million cash in both Kano and Katsina States.

 Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State paid a courtesy visit to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, on Saturday. The visit comes at a time the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers is having a running battle with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which Wike represents.

 The supplementary elections held in some states yesterday were marred by violence, with four persons killed in Kano and Kebbi States, with pockets of violence and low turnout of voters recorded in other states. It was gathered that apart from the killings in the two states, the exercise in Edo, Ekiti, Adamawa, Rivers and Anambra states was characterised by voter apathy, and vote-buying.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, has ordered the immediate removal of the Divisional Police Officer of Okokomaiko, SP Emmanuel Edebagha. According to the command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, Edebagha was removed for failing to supervise his men who were allegedly involved in the extortion of a trader in the Alaba International Market of N100,000.

The Lagos State Police Command recovered a gun and six cartridges from fleeing suspects in the Egbe area of the state. Police spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin who disclosed this in Lagos on Saturday said the items were recovered by officers on patrol duty in the area. He said that on sighting the police patrol team, the suspects dropped a polyethene bag and fled.

. Former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, on Saturday emerged the candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the November 11 governorship election in Bayelsa State.
Sylva polled 52, 061 votes to defeat five other contenders to win the governorship ticket at the party’s primary election conducted on Friday and Saturday.

 Chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party loyal to the suspended National Chairman of the party, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, have vowed to resist any attempt by the five aggrieved governors to force him out of office. They said reports had shown that the G-5 Governors were pulling the strings to ensure that embattled Ayu does not return as the chairman.

 The Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Alhassan Doguwa, has been declared the winner of the Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal Constituency election in Kano. The Returning Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Sani Ibrahim, who announced the results on Saturday, said the lawmaker secured 41,573 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Yushau Salisu of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, who got 34,831 votes.
