The factional leader of the Labour Party, Lamidi Apapa, on Friday, gave the legal counsels representing the presidential candidate of the party, Peter Obi, a deadline of 48 hours to brief him on the ongoing election petitions tribunal. Apapa’s ultimatum is coming hours after the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja ruled in his favour in the suit before it.


The Labour Party presidential candidate during the February 25 presidential election, Peter Obi, on Friday, said he ‘must be” Nigeria’s president. While expressing optimism to clinch the number one seat in the country, Obi who spoke in Anambra State, clarified that he was not in a hurry to achieve the dream.

 Some residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have asked a Federal High Court in Abuja to stop the inauguration of President-elect, Bola Tinubu. They said this is to judicially determine with finality in accordance with the provisions of Section 134(2)(b) of the Nigerian Constitution that such candidate fulfilled the requirements of the constitution.

States should brace up for the responsibility of feeding inmates in Correctional facilities from January 2024, the Federal Government said on Friday. The Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola who announced this in Owerri, Imo state capital, said States should take maximum advantage of the constitutional amendment to improve the conditions of inmates in their domains.

Tension brewing between Rivers and Bayelsa States heightened on Friday as the Rivers State Government commenced the demolition of two buildings belonging to the Bayelsa State Government in Akassa Street, old GRA, Port Harcourt. The buildings occupying an expanse of land were being used as residential quarters for workers of Bayelsa State Government Liaison Office in Port Harcourt before the demolition

Commander of the Nigerian Hunters and Forest Security Service (NHFSS) in Kebbi, Musa Hussaini-Rambo, has disclosed that his members in a joint security operation neutralised notorious kingpin, popularly known as ‘Yellow’, terrorising Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of the state.

 Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations, Muktar Betara, has said that the group of seven candidates for the speakership of the 10th assembly will work together for one of them to emerge as the Speaker of the House in the next dispensation. Betara, who stated this on Friday, in Abuja, at the formal declaration of the deputy speaker, Idris Wase, for the speakership seat, said there would not be any problem among them.

 An Ondo State High Court sitting in Akure, the state capital, on Friday, sentenced a man, Ajayi Famakinwa, to 18 years imprisonment for impregnating a 15-year-old girl. Famakinwa, 60, a pastor, was arrested by the police for committing the offence in 2021 at Ayede Ogbese in the Akure North Local Government Area of the state.

 The police in Oyo State have neutralised the leader of a suspected robbery gang that allegedly killed a policeman in Ibadan recently. Three other suspects were arrested by the police. The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adewale Osifeso, stated this while parading the suspects at the command’s headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan, on Friday.
