A Lady, Mrs Folakemi from Ede local government in Osun state, has been suffering from goiter for a while. She sought medical help but when a team of doctors offered her free medical services, she opted out and asked for the money raised on her behalf.

  1. Poverty is a curse pls help her to know that health is wealth or more importantly if others can donate another 300k for surgery for her ,she doesn't know the implications because of her poverty state

    1. Who are the "others that can donate", ehn, goke?
I ask again, who are the others?

    3. Of course she knows the implications of a growing goitre and it's attendant discomforts. So it's either she uses the goitre to elicit pity and subsequent financial assistance from the public especially, as that could explain why she doesn't want it removed.
Or it could be that she is one of those that believe that undergoing a surgery or "operation" is tantamount to a death sentence, thus her reluctance.
However, I can't understand why you are suggesting another 300k be contributed again when she failed to avail herself of medical attention in the first instance.

    4. If the money was raised for the surgery, the NGO should have returned it back to the donors. If many more start taking the money instead of using it for what it was intended, it will discourage people from contributing to others that are genuinely interested in getting treatment.

    7. The NGO should return the money to the donors or pay it directly to the Hospital, if she doesn't want the surgery, the services should be transfered to someone else but not give her the money at all. That komkom saying people should donate N300k again no get sense. Such people should never be out incharge of finances anywhere.

    1. She will definitely regret it someday because prolonged none removal of the tumor could lead to cancer.
I know someone that out of fear didn't remove her until it became cancerous.
After awhile she will spend the whole money...

  6. While it hasn't exactly been determined what's driving her goitre, that this woman choose potential death in the long term for immediate financial rewards is disheartening.
No one needs to get to this point.

  12. She will regret this decision later, she could have undergone the surgery and then later still seek for financial help, but with this, she may likely not get the help when the situation of her health gets worse. This is not poverty, it's greediness.

  14. There's this misconception that some people don't survive goiter surgery. Especially those that seek spiritual consultation before surgery.

Surgey is for the good health of mankind. Always embrace it. I still recommend surgery despite being a 4th generation herbal medicine expert.

    1. @Arike someone I know did goiter operation and didn't survive it.

Also I wonder the prevalence of goiter amongst ladies these days.

    2. Most goiter cases stem from a lack of iodine in the diet. I am not sure this woman’s diet so I will not speak on her, but goiter is almost always related to iodine

    3. It's a very delicate surgery that needs good hands to handle it and most importantly God's help but people survive it...

  16. O Sad Sha... And she looks relatively young. How you choose this death sentence because of 300k beats me. Sad thing is if she chooses to do the surgery in the future it would definitely cost more. Besides she just might never get help again.

  19. if the money was raised for surgery...then it is wrong to use it for something else...returning it to the donors is the right thing to do...in Nigeria we do not know that some action are fraudulent..

  20. Na wa oh,so she actually opt for the money and she was given.
I hope she doesn't regret it

  21. From what I understand, the money was raised for surgery. If she declined surgery, it should be given to another in need of surgery and willing to do it. If the lady wanted money for something else, it should have been raised transparently.

  24. Why did the hospital give the money to the woman? what was the money raise for?if she refuses to do the surgery the money should be used for a nother person with the same Goitre issue. What she did was fraudulent and despicable. stealing by tricking innocent donors
