Akwa Ibom State Govt Renews Bid To Actualize Ibom Deep Seaport Project

There are strong indications that the dream of having an Ibom Deep Seaport will soon be a reality as Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, moves to reposition the designated technical committee towards the implementation of the project.



Governor Umo Eno gave the indication when he took members of the Technical Committee on the Implementation of Ibom Deep Seaport round the new office accommodation assigned to them on the third floor of Dakkadda Towers, the state-owned 21-storey smart building on Udo Udoma Banking Layout, Uyo.

According to the governor, who rose from a meeting with the committee and some technical partners, the move to allocate the new office space to the committee was necessitated by the need to avail them with requisite and befitting infrastructure to aid the realization of the Deep Seaport project in line with resolutions at the meeting.

He assured that with the steps taken by the State government in recent times, including the award of contract for construction of the 13.6Km Orukim-Unyenghe-Universal Energy Road to Ibom Deep Seaport site, the allocation of the new befitting accommodation among others, pursuit for the Seaport project was back on track.
On her part, the Chairman, Technical Committee on the Implementation of Ibom Deep Seaport, Mrs. Mfon Usoro, thanked the governor for the office accommodation and other forms of support to the committee which she described as a demonstration of his commitment to the project.

She affirmed that the project will not only place Akwa Ibom State on the global maritime map, but serve as a major economic gateway to West and Central Africa.

Mrs. Usoro affirmed that with Governor Umo Eno's gesture, committee members and consultants are rejuvenated to work even more assiduously towards the accomplishment of the project.

  1. I will be so happy if this comes through. At least Lagos will be decongested and traders from this part of the south will find it easier with their imported goods.

    The monopolistic seaport operation must come to an end.

  2. Another state working on its deep seaport.
    Some people only know how to lament and blame the FG for not giving them a deep seaport.

    1. But you should know that decentralization of seaport is an exclusive right of the federal government. No state has attempted and succeeded in doing that. Donald Duke tried but couldn't.

      This is why I said up there that if it comes through I will be happy, cos I know that aspects is not in the place of a state governor to handle. Don't you know seaport form a route in which a country territorial integrity can be threatened.
