Nigerian Couple Reportedly Die In House Explosion....

A couple identified as Chioma Buchi and George have died after an explosion occurred in their house in Abakiliki, Ebonyi state.
The explosion occurred few days after they moved into their newly built house.
Chioma reportedly died on the spot while George died on Wednesday September 11, 2024, both left behind a three year old son.
There are conflicting reports about the cause of the explosion as some sources suggest it was a gas cylinder explosion, while others say it was a battery inverter that exploded...
Chioma is reportedly the Sister of Nigerian singer Patoranking.

  9. This is very sad news. When I moved into a new house in the abroad, inspection report found some electrical issues. I insisted that seller should make repairs to all safety issues before contract signing. We had all these negotiations before proceeding. In other words, if Nigeria had policies that cover the buyer in the process of house buying, this couple would not have died. Many Nigerians are dying for very preventable causes. Our lawmakers should be passing such life saving policies...

    1. Congratulations on being abroad, if some of us no dey travel abroad una go make us think na angels dey live abroad.
So things no dey happen abroad wey no good?
Just read the story and commiserate with their families, instead of this rubbish of using every opportunity to run down Nigeria because you dey abroad.
You can stop reading anything about Nigeria if you are not proud of being a Nigeria.
Hoe does an explored gas cylinder have anything to do with quality of construction?

    2. It matters because gas range is also checked during inspections. Infact everything is checked to ensure safety once the buyer moves in. And it matters more for new constructions because no one has ever lived there, so most appliances have not been tested to work well as they should. We can adopt these policies for our own good and make our country better. I prefer we have discussions like these where people share their knowledge & experiences over typing eeyah. Because the hard truth is that eyah will not save the next victim(s). It is charitable to console, but even more charitable to seek justice and to prevent...that is actually what saves lives

I am proudly Nigerian, my comment never said I am not. I am completely anonymous, my mentioning abroad is for clarity and not pridefulness. Maybe you are projecting your own issues on me, I dunno💁‍♀️

    3. @17:24 please don’t mind @14:53
What you said is good. Let property developers do proper inspections of property before renting or selling out to people. We see how some houses collapse during construction and kill people, even in Ikoyi. Abeg oh!

    4. @17:24 Chai, I think this other person is just bitter about you living abroad. I like the calm, mature way you respond. You are absolutely right. We own rental property in California, my husband decided to add an additional room to one of our rental units and the city government stopped the project because we did not have a permit for the additional room and new electrical additions before my husband decided to start the project. The city government had to come and inspect everything, especially electrical before we could rent the house. You’re right, here in US, new home construction even just additional are highly inspected for compliance.

Some also said that it was Thunder, according to what was reported by some bloggers, they are suspecting foul play because there was no sign of gas explosion in their house, their inverter battery is still intact, only God knows what happened and this is so painful, may their soul rest in peace, Amen.

  26. I am so angry reading this and I am tired of reading about fires and explosions in ppl’s homes. What caused the explosion in a brand new home? Where is the safety agency to investigate these things and ensure that there is not a severe flaw somewhere. Must thousands or millions die before an issue is deemed important.

    1. Your anger is justified and we should all be angry. A brand new home is actually at higher risk of safety hazards because no one has ever lived there, so the buyer will be the first 'tester'. I don't know if we have any safety agency, but these are the questions we should be asking and the policies that should be passed.
