I knew it's a step I must take but I was also bound by the tradition my brother explained to me (he said that my dowry can only be returned when I remarry, then it will not be a shameful thing and we will tell them to take their money back that they have given my hand out to another man), so all my life, I held unto that, but i also refused to date or have anything with any man because of the money on my head, it's been years, my mind is even telling me that my radio may not have channels anymore cos i feel nothing.....LMAO!!!
I called my elder brother and told him that I would like the dowry to be returned (my parents are late), he sang the same old song, I didn't buy it this time, I went ahead to inform my immediate elder brother, he told me it's a lie that such tradition does not exist, that you can't give out someone's wife with a brideprice on her head, so I got the numbers of some of my uncles and told them my intention, they screamed at me for allowing it stay that long before speaking up.....
They started calling my elder brother who tried to make them believe in his own mindset, they refused and told him it would be an abomination to allow that money to still be on my head, finally he agreed and then my ex-husband's family was called in, my brother sent the money immediately to the witness (the 3rd party), immediately my ex husband's family was called, their elder brother (that one hate me pass shit, infact he is boasted that it was him that scattered my marriage)

I also know that my kinsmen will never go to that place cos that's the center of the unrest in the East, I decided to put it in prayers, my brother gave them a lot of reasons why we must not come to their place yet this people refused, so my brother now informed them that if they don't accept the money that he will report them to welfare and they will end up not getting the kids because the kids are old enough to speak for themselves and they will tell the court everything they know, na that time this evil people decide to send their details and the money was returned yesterday....
It felt like a load was lifted off my shoulders but I also felt bad because I loved this man and I dreamt of spending my forever with him, it pains me to see it end like this, i am also glad that I came out with my life and that of my kids, I look forward to meeting new people now, dating and enjoying some good company because konji no be better person..LMAOOOOO!!!!

This life ehn, na two way. Some go dey happy while some go dey sad.
There is this man who happens to be in my department but different field of study which I'm still the general course rep.
After the first semester exam, he complained about too much calculations in his field and decided to change. I encouraged him to continue and put more effort, since we only have two more semesters to go but he was bent on changing his field of Interest to the one I am studying....
I asked him if he had gotten enough information about my field before planning to move in and he said yes but little did he know that, he is moving from frying pan to fire.

Honestly, I never knew appealing visa rejections can actually lead to a turn around.
When my sister first applied to visit us in Switzerland with an invitation letter from my husband, it was initially denied that they were not sure she’d return.
The girl was devastated because her application was genuine and she had no intention to ‘japa’. She sha moved on from the matter.
I then went to ask my husband if we should appeal it (the person being invited can choose to appeal by herself or the person inviting can also choose to appeal on the person’s behalf), he said ‘ok’. I honestly thought he wouldn’t go for the appeal but he just agreed just like that. I’m guessing he wanted to try every means possible to maintain his clean track record of no one he’s ever invited to Europe being denied Visa.
That’s how we appealed oh and it was such a slow process. After about three months and some back and forth letters with him answering whatever questions they asked, the final letter came and stated she could go to the embassy with her passport to collect the visa.
My sister was shocked sha because she didn’t even know we went ahead to appeal.
So abeg, if dem deny u that visa and state that you can appeal, pls do oh, you may just get an approval!
The sweetest part of all of it (asides the obvious) was the fact that once ur appeal is granted, the money you paid (chf 200 in our case) would be refunded in full. We didn’t know this so imagine my joy seeing that my husband didn’t even lose anything in choosing to appeal.

Never be desperate for anything at all.
As the year started, I noticed my laptop battery has to be constantly charging before it can be used. On Monday a computer repairer guy said we need to change it and upgrade the operating system and other things. I don check myself, told him not now.
Someone I know came around the shop while we were talking about it and decided to assist. Telling the repairer he'll give me the money to send. He actually can cos he's quite comfortable.
Since on Monday this "Uncle" who's married saw an opportunity to assist me fix my laptop, there's nothing I've not heard. "Girl you know I like you, girl let's go to the movies, girl you know it's been long I've been on to you give me a chance and all this small small issues won't be a problem for you anymore."
Last night own irritated me so much. The computer guy called asking how far, I called this Uncle to remind him and he said come out let's go to the movies and discuss it. The irritation on my face eh. If he really wanted to help, send details no hard to type.

But I have shared a story here two years ago and even last year about returning dowry. I guess you didn't read it. You can't remarry without first returning your ex dowry to his kinsmen. This was exactly what killed my aunt and the man she remarried. They were both warned but they took it with kid gloves.
The husband died first mysteriously and not more than a year my aunt left as well. My mom cried so heavily, for it was her elder brother this aunt was first married to. He passed on and no one was against her remarrying but the right thing should have been done.
There are things Christianity shouldn't deceive anyone or come in between.
Glad you returned it to them. For anyone going through this, if your ex and his people refuse to collect their dowry, just involve the welfare. When they couldn't give a cogent reason for refusing the refund, the welfare will take it and mandated them to come and pick it whenever they're ready. By so doing, you have untied yourself from the marital bond.
