Footballer Taiwo Awoniyi Placed In A Medically Induced Coma After Emergency Surgery

Nigerian Footballer Taiwo Awoniyi, who is a Nottingham Forest striker, has been placed in a medically induced coma after emergency abdominal surgery. He reportedly sustained the injury during a match against Leicester City on May 11,2025  when he collided with the goalpost while attempting to convert a cross.

He briefly continued playing after the collision but, the severity of his condition became clear later, leading to urgent surgical intervention. 

Nottingham Forest has confirmed that the procedure has gone well so far, and Awoniyi is currently recovering.

 The induced coma is a precautionary measure to aid his recovery and manage post-operative complications
