Memorylane Currencies....

Are these still in use or phased out? I mean the 5,10 and 20 naira notes....Nigeria does not use coins anymore and i wonder why.... How can it be that nothing sells for 5 naira? Germany still uses even 1 cent,2cents, 5cents, 10 cents,20cents, 50cents and then 1 euro upwards.....

  1. Let me date myself a bit. I met 50 kobo, used the 1 naira coin...it is a tragedy 5, 10 and 20 naira notes will be phased out due to inflation.

  8. Kai, I used 50 kobo and 1 naira notes before they were changed to coins. That is about 30 years ago.
When they were changed to coins people tended to reject it because they were heavy and tears pockets and bags, especially that #1 coin. When you have like 50 pieces (#50), it will bulge out and even tear your pocket or purse
That was where the problem started....

  11. It lives now only in the archive of once upon a time and the fading album of memory, lol.
I still have a few old notes and coins tucked away - some old Biafran currency too. Say what you like, but those Biafra notes had real quality. You can’t even compare them to any of the naira notes (old or new).
