Nigeria's Senate Public Accounts Committee, led by Senator Aliyu Wadada, has flagged over ₦210 trillion in questionable entries in the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited’s (NNPC) audited financial statements from 2017 to 2023.
Key concerns include:
- Unexplained legal and auditing fees with no documentation or justification.
- Contradictory figures in receivables—amounts owed to NNPC—that don’t match between submitted documents and official audits.
- Accrued expenses totaling trillions, including retention fees, that lack supporting contracts or records.
The Senate has issued 11 formal queries to NNPC’s finance team and given them one week to respond
