Darlington Akporugo and his wife, Jasmin Sood, were recently sentenced to federal prison for orchestrating a multimillion-dollar romance and elder fraud scheme that spanned several U.S. states.
Akporugo, an undocumented Nigerian national, and Sood, a Houston resident, ran a $3.1 million fraud operation from 2015 to 2022.
They used fake identities and social media profiles to lure elderly victims—mostly women, including widows—into fake romantic relationships.
Victims were manipulated into sending large sums of money, buying luxury items, and even renting homes and vehicles for the couple.
Darlington was sentenced to 188 months (15 years, 8 months) in federal prison.
while his wife Jasmin Sood was sentenced to 121 months (just over 10 years).
Both must pay $3,123,073 in restitution and serve 3 years of supervised release after prison.
The court described the scheme as “heartless and far-reaching.”

Akporugo posed as a romantic partner and convinced victims to invest in nonexistent businesses or help with fabricated emergencies while Sood created fake companies and bank accounts under aliases to launder the money.
They were arrested while driving a victim’s car and living in her rented mansion.
Both will remain in custody pending transfer to a Federal Bureau of Prisons facility to be determined in the near future.

DeleteNot everything is gender war. Normal procedures in the US they arrest criminals and get one to turn on the other offering them immunity or reduced sentenced.
Most times the FBI arresting is not a victory for them their main victory comes when they get a conviction and sometimes they need all the evidence and operations of the criminals that is why they approach one of the guilty parties to spill offering them a deal.

Delete‘where did it say what you are alleging’ you lost me at this point! As a lawyer I thought you will be solid and have an idea of how things like this go.
So, you expect the FBI, ICE to explicitly state that she aided in the investigation. If you can’t read between the lines as a lawyer and look beyond what is staring at you, I wonder how you win your cases.
So your mind didn’t tell you that 90% of the time the FBI gets criminals to turn on each other to get rock solid evidence to make their case airtight in the courtroom so the judge won’t throw out their case.
Their duty doesn’t stop at arresting alone, they always need a win too if not the criminals walk away and that is a big blow to the bureau. Sometimes the evidence they get against criminals cannot be administered in court because it wasn’t gotten the right way, they need the testimony of accomplices..point them in the right direction.
