Drama King Teejay's CORNER

A Couple of months ago I had traveled for a maintenance job outside Rivers state. I was cracking the ground when some particles of stones got into one of my eyes(the right one). I should have taken safety precaution in the first instance by putting on eye shade.

Immediately, I washed my eyes with clean water and continued with the work but carefully since there's no eye shade to put on.

A week later, my right eye turned very red and heavy. At a point, I became so afraid if I have contacted disease cos I had forgotten about the stone particles that got into my right eye. I went online to check possible cause of red eyes.

Immediately I returned from travel, I went for a test. Ran different tests but found nothing wrong. I was recommended to get a particular eye drop for it (vaccine eye drop). I went to the pharmacy and was told it cost 7,500.

There were other brands for 2,000 and so on. I called my doctor to inform him. Took a picture of my eyes and forwarded to him. On seeing how severe it was, he said I shouldn't apply anything on it yet but visit an eye clinic as quick as possible to ascertain the cause of it.

As instructed, I visited, got a registration card and then ran an eye test. The doctor used a microscope and a torch to flash inside my right eye and said, there are tiny objects inside the eye. Removing it will cost five thousand naira.

She continued, after removal, I will pay twenty five thousand naira (25,000) to treat it for it to heal. That the object after removal, will leave a hole inside the eye. So it need to be treated. During the treatment, my right eye will be covered with bandage. I thanked her and left.

I called my Doctor and informed him. He said I should go to another clinic and if I get the same report, then I should go back to the first. So I did. The second test didn't reveal any object in my eyes. Probably, something entered and had gone out. The doctor only applied eye drop that neutralized the pains I was having.

After that, I left. I also paid for card registration as well. She said I should return in four days time if the pains and reddish eye continues.
Two days afterward, the pains reduced as I woke up from sleep unlike before. On the third day, someone said my eye is getting bright. In less than a week, my right eye cleared off and shone bright like the other. No more pains.

So I called my doctor and informed him about it. I asked him why did the first clinic I went said all that, he smiled and said, how do I expect doctors to make money and pay bills? Though he faulted those who magnify things to make patients frightened and pay heavily.

I think I later understood why he said I should visit another clinic. Please always make sure that you  run a second test at a different hospital to ascertain a report.

  8. T, it’s obvious that you need to be extremely careful with your body as you are prone to things happening to your person. Please take all safety precautions in the future and protect yourself from things happening to you. Just wearing a pair of goggles would have prevented all of this. When you know you are prone to happenstance then think and act differently.
